knickers - i soaked in water then planted in the damp jiffy, it's actually not doing that badly now lol i have checked since the last post

new guy - hi, uhmm all you can do is try lol or get your girlfriend into pot. the reason a person would germinate directly in the jiffy block is because the transplant shock between papertowel and soil kills off a small percentage of babies, or a lot as per my last grow. so this time i'm going safe/slower to decide which i prefer

i've decided i'm pro dwarf racing, even though i once got nutted in the boob by a british dwarf, i like them all except him lol

gonna go make some pita chips and munch out, ARRR NUM

most of them had a small taproot when i put them in, the rest i let soak a little longer til they were slightly opening.

ninja - so you germ in rockwool or germ then transfer?

I take the seed out of the breeder pack, or the stick i bought (whichever the case may be) and drop it straight in the rockwool, which i have had soaking overnight in purified water. I get a 90% germ rate, and thats b4 i hit em with the sandpaper, which gets em almost everytime :blsmoke:

<----sandgroper here, any others kicking around on the site? I'm still a newbie tinkering around with my first grow (hydro closet grow) I started from seed and the only method that I consider successful was putting the seeds in a plastic container full of cotton wool soaked in distilled water until they cracked, then into rockwool, 100% success with every attempt so far, the shot glass method and the rockwool method both failed miserably when i tried. Does anyone have any experience with the 130w compact fluoro's you can buy on ebay or at hydro shops? I'm using an assortment of 4 foot cool white and grolux tubes at the moment but I want to build a second "room" using compact fluoros for flowering, my plan is to use 3 130w cfl's (2700k obviously). My theory is that they will use much less power than any hid and less heat to get rid of in summer, while still providing a lot of light for my girls to thrive. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm open to suggestions
cheers

dnt see why it would't work.
id upgrade to hps lamp maybe when ya have the money then use the cfl's 130's as side lighting

soo how do you mean tinkering?? are you just playin with different kinds of germing or you have a grow on the go? etc

maybe work out the heat issue, hps would be better for flowering

I advise not using cfls with high watts such as those. 28W has more lumens per watt in test results posted on this site. I use 48W bulbs from bunnings at only $28 each, and recently found 65W globes for $31.

lol i only looked at those exact cfl's the other day at bunnings. Imo hps all the way tho. Get a cool tube and a good fan and dont worry about temps.

leave the nelsons alone they are shit
use the 28w phillips twist they crank light (im using them atm)
the nelsons are good for cloning but shit for growing

Also im with ninja in relation to germing. I have just soaked rockwool and dropped the bad girls in. I think also about 90% +++.
