I have a decent home made setup made from eBay parts for camping. I "acquired " 2x cat batteries that I Have in a 24v -onfig and bought 4x60w eBay solar panels $50 each a 12-24 volt voltage and charge meter with panel input and battery input $12 and a sinewave inverter for $130 .in full sun the panels will charge the batteries enough to run a fridge all night and I have played x Xbox on decent sise TV for a few hours. It would run your lights no worries probably for 2 days without charge. Mind you these batteries are massive.

Automotive batteries really aren’t very good for a solar system that will be used permanently they aren’t designed to be charged and discharged like they will be if used in that manner,also they shouldn’t get used passed 50% discharged or they will die a quick death. A quick calc for working out a solar system is


KWH per day = 75w x 18 hours = 1.35KWH per day
Panel input = (4 x 60 )= 240 x ((amount of hours panels receive full sun) 6)= 1.4 KWH per day
So with the panels that you’ve got you would only be able to use 75 watts for 18 hours a day.

My whole box is about 350w. And if I understand W/hrs right. I'll need 4200 to cover most of my run time.

P = V x I (P= watts,V= voltage,I= Current)
Kwh= P x Time
So if your box is running at 350w for 18 hours (you always calculate MAX demand)
It would use 6.3 KWh per day .

Yeah see I struggle to calculate things like that. Mathematics was never my forté. Also 2-3am isn't the best for straight thinking.

I left school at 15 and then had to re learn all that shit when I did TAFE when I was 22 it was a struggle at first.

I left school at 17 or 18 and I still don't "get" maths. I soon as I have to work anything out I start getting anxious and my mind goes to 'Its to hard" mode..

Mine does that too with different stuff they reckon it’s a form of dyslexia. It’s really strange how some people like one of my best mates can’t read or write but can rebuild Chevy or Holden v8’s with his eyes closed and I’ve seen him design and build his own sprockets with a bit of metal plate and a drill press.

I barely made it to my school certificate I got expelled from one school after 6 weeks and at the new school I ended up having to spend all day in isolation in a little room in the office for the last term before our school certificate,I hated the place.
