'Dagga couple' Julian Stobbs and Myrtle Clarke have argued for the legalisation of cannabis for adults along with regulation for use and cultivation.

Judge Ranchod makes order- applications to strike out #daggacouple evidence because it is long and not summarised is dismissed.

Yeeeay, the little man is standing up to Goliath.

Hoping you get legal weed soon! Best of luck!

It's an uphill battle against the entrenched interests of law enforcement and the medical industrial complex, obstacles not to be taken lightly.

I wish we could have cannabis estates like we have with the wine farms now. Lovely place to chill out and a tasting room.
I think with the current drought it might be easy to convince some farmers to change crops in a few fields.
All we need is for the laws to draw the boundaries of operation. I don't want it free-free, but no more onerous than alcohol.
I.e. children should be prohibited from using without medical prescription. They should also not be able to easily hop the fence and steal some, and logical shit like that.

Agreed, and yet stoned kids are in much less danger than drunk ones. I know lots of people who died young from alcohol poisoning, but none from Cannabis overdose.

Making the weed widely available and inexpensive is the best security system.

Day 2

http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/live-dagga-couple-tackles-sa-laws-in-court-20170804

Dr Nutt from the UK is the expert talking at the moment, he is ripping the government's contentions for harm a new arse.

Edit, they are adjourning for a break. Nutt is doing a sterling job. Clearly and slowly and deliberately showing how low and likely the potential harms from cannabis really are.

OK, it is back on if you want to watch the live stream

Can you give us the short and sweet version? How is it looking for Cannabis legalization and how far are you thinking they might go in that direction?

It is hard to say, in my opinion, he put a good case, THe summary is weed is less harmful than alcohol, alcohol is regulated and has regulations on who and where it can be sold to and by. By reducing the prohibition the harms of cannabis is further reduced. It is this uncconciable for alcohol to be legal and weed not.

My own addition, you are being forced by law to take a more harmful substance just to comply with the laws as they are if you are not a teetotaler.

The opposing lawyer is trying to be obstructionate and to play word games, I don;t think he is doing himself any favours. Nutt is not easily cowed into leading yes and no answers. He has the smoothness of a politician and always manages to slip a complete opinion in.

If South Africa goes legal, I'd move to Capetown to start a dispensary!
