Arthritis pain gone... too good to be true?

To be honest, I have long been a little skeptical of claims that anything in cannabis would actually counteract inflammatory conditions. I'm old enough to have a little routine arthritis type pain. Up until recently, I would take one OTC naproxen per day just to keep the pain under control. But then I had two episodes of stomach trouble that caused me to stop taking the naproxen. So now it's been a month or so since I took any NSAID, and my pain level is just as low, maybe even lower, than when I was taking naproxen daily. I'm kind of wondering if the cannabis I smoke deserves credit for this, but on the other hand, I wonder if the pain was ever "real" to begin with. So, I was just wondering if anyone of the older folks here had experienced similar results?

Hi,
I'm an "older folk". I have some arthritis in my lower spine and some leg muscle pain/tightness issues. Also muscle overuse soreness from 3-4 hours exercise most days.
I just got some CO recreational cannabis from a CO shop and it is like a miracle potion. The tiniest particles you can imagine, in a vaporizer and seconds later I'm 90% better. I'm thankful it takes so little, probably for two reasons:
1. this current generation uber weed must be 10X stronger than what I had last (25 years ago)
2. I have no cannabis tolerance built up
My vote, it's the real deal for some med conditions!

I quit smoking for about 15 years. The legal weed in dispensaries here is no stronger than what I was growing c. 1989, as far as I can tell. But that stuff I was growing was so strong, people actually complained that it got them too wasted. But, anyhow, it's good to start off as low as possible, especially if you are going for the pain relief. My wife thinks it's helping her arthritis as well.

I have arthritis in knees and ankles. I have been diagnosed to need a full knee replacement. I have found that cannabis is amazing for the pain. I smoke it at night. After about 15 minutes all pain has gone away. In fact pain that I didn;t even know I had has gone --- I know because that area just feels good.

It makes me feel like I did when I was a little kid. No hurt, no pain, just plain good.

My issue is that I have to get pretty high to cure the pain. It is not something I could do during the day. I take vicodin during the day and smoke at night. Sometimes I used to wake up in huge pain. I would need a vicodin to get by it. That never happens anymore.

It truly does work, although a lot of people are sceptical and only find out after diving into it. I have some herniated discs and a lot more, and a small bong it or vape bag and it's like someone hit me with a needle, instant relief! …the only way to describe it to someone who wouldn't understand is, imagine someone holding your head under water, and holding it, and holding it, and then finally you surface and get a nice big deep breathe of air! (That big deep breathe of air is what you feel after having some cannabis). Edibles are even better for pain relief, and you could also try topicals (like cream).

Well considering cannabis is perfect are removing the pain it is great for arthritis. I get it sometimes in my knees and i love taking a hit right before a good run to ease the pain.

The best way to receive the most benefit from the drug is to ingest it in oil form. ;)
200 mg or 0.2 of a gram each night.

You have to build up to that dose as well.

I make coconut oil for edibles, and I've discovered that it's like a miracle salve.
A drop or two, I rub it in topically, and any pain disappears almost instantly.
Not even getting baked out of my gourd matches this kind of pain relief, so I suggest trying it.
I've heard even rubbing cannabutter works LOL, but that sounds messy.

It's also a really good way to stretch out the weed for painkilling purposes.
I've made weak oil before, which needs like 4 tbsp to even give me a light buzz, but a couple of drops of it still works miracles topically.

im gonna bring this back for a bit.

ive been diagnosed with zero-negative sponodlaropthy (I hope I spelled all the correctly). basically is a heredity fform of a rare rheumatoid arthritis disease that effects most ALL my major joints (ankles, toes, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists). it does NOT effect my neck or back, not sure why but im thankful. what it does is the joint thinks its been damages and the bursa sack (sack that allows movement of a joint) gets inflamed and FILLS up with synovial fluid (kinda like oil for your joints) and separates the joint. its the most intense pain ive ever felt in my life. I can pop 10 vicodens and the4 pain will not lighten up. dr/er's used to give me fentanyl for pain and nothing. then have to put me out when I don't catch a flare up in time. it FVCKING sucks. ive had both hip sockets drained of fluid, both knees, both shoulders drained. the pain is soooo intense sometimes its not even worth living. its that damn bad. ive been in 2 motorcycle accident racing (kinda like Moto GP, ama, FIM) you see on tv. ive broken 4 ribs and a dislocated hip in 1 accident. the pain is nothing near my flareups when I don't catch it in time before it gets outta control.

NOW, im currently on Methotrexate injections (ive tried a lot of other pharmaceutical drugs and none worked) . the pills didn't work and I would have 1 flare up a month. on the injections ive only had 2 flareups in 9 months. a record for me in 9 years. BUT ive also been smoking ALOT more herb than before. its either the injections that are working better, or a combo of that and herb I grow. either way im happier now.

Methofuxate eh.... What ever you do...DO NOT DRINK on those meds. The alcohol goes right through your liver like its not even there.
Nasty Nasty medication. Did you know they use it and one over the counter drug to abort fetuses? Well they do!
I cant say what could help with your illness though. If it works. That's a great thing in itself.
I hope you find something better.
Try ingesting oil. Can't hurt. It will lessen the opioids you use by half, in combination with the oil ..

methotrexate 80cc 1x a week injected in my butt. you cant imagine the intense pain im in when I have a flare up. and im afraid to admit, mj extractions are NOT gonna help with my disease.

I used to take remicade, but at 1200 out of pocket with insurance and 6500 with out ins per infusion, that biologic worked greatly. its either take the methotrexate or live a horrible life in intense pain. I choose NO pain. id rather have 10 yrs of semi pain free living n medications, than live 20 yrs in pain w/o meds.

I know all of the medications you speak of. Sadly.

Hope you find better things.
They use rituximab as an infusion as well @ 5300 a shot. Lovely stuff! .............NOT!

As far as the arthritis goes, smoking a little helps me a lot. I have had bad arthritis post chemo, (I'm a survivor). I will make some oil however and try that topically.

I am a young person but unfortunately I do have arthritis (cervical spine, left knee, and both shoulders) due to a connective tissue disorder. I am new to the MJ community. Does anybody have a tried-and-true recipe for these lotions and salves for pain relief? Or would this sort of thing be found in another section of the forums? My grow partner and I are both using our garden for medicinal purposes and would like to stretch it out if possible. Thanks!

if you find something let me know. I have enough flowers to make really anything I can think of.

9 months and no flare ups. its either the methotrexate biological injections, and or smoking/vaping everyday (about 1-2g of flowers, and 1/2g of shatter daily). either way im liking it.

Melytra, id check into some cbd flowers. then make some edibles out of it. decarb'd of course. I have some cbd edibles that are excellent for migraines, or if I throw my back out (muscle spasms). it helps with my back (somewhat tolerable), but doesn't work as well when I take a muscle relaxer and vicoden.

Sorry it took so long to reply, but making topicals can be fairly easy, I think. First I cooked a bunch of trimmings and leaves in a crock pot with coconut oil. That was OK, but even easier is just grind some up and put it in a jar with some olive oil poured over it and let it sit for a couple of months, then strain out the oil with cheesecloth. It seems to work just fine when I use it on my sore wrists and hands.

Glad to see others use infused coconut oil as a salve. I have had surgery on both knees. Works great for a topical.

If you put some hot peppers while heating your oil you get home made muscle rub. If you add willow bark you got an anti inflammatory.

You can do an wintergreen iso extraction on your trim, hot peppers, willow at the same time. Strain and put in small spray bottles for a good muscle spray.

Use lightly. Depending on how many and how hot of peppers used the hotter the rub. I can put it on in the mornings and last all day.

Keep enough oil to fill a baby jar, half cup.

Seperate, and reheat with 2-3 chopped pepper and some of the seed. Strain and fill small jar. Let cool.

That small jar goes a long way.
