anyone know how to make there own plant tray?

I'm using an ebb and flow system, out of a 80" tall cabinet I gutted and made into a stealth closet. trouble is, I'm having problems finding a growing tray to suit my dimensions. I have 30" across and 24" deep exactly. does anyone have any ideas on where I can get a planter? or even better, how I can make one to fit my area exactly?

If I understand right, it sounds like you could use a RubberMaid bucket. They come in all shapes and sizes...I've made alot DWC this way. You will have to drill a few holes but they work nice. And they are $cheap$. Good luck

lol, i live in crappy des moines... i've been to places like target and asked around if anyone know of anywhere that sold different sized storage containers to no avail. I would love to just go out and buy one, but would love even more to have one exact so I don't lose any space! with all the macguyver potheads out there, I was hoping someone could offer a solution. still, might just have to use what options I have available.

I work in a sheetmetal shop, and make drip pans of different dimensions all the time. Usually they are only 2 inches deep, but can be made for whatever dimension you need. I use them in my grow cab to catch water. If you go that route, I'm not too sure about nutrients corroding the galvanize metal, maybe you could paint it? Also make sure they only use lead free solder as well. Just an idea.

lol...sorry dude. I took an old dresser drawer once..cut up a rubber pool to waterproof/line it...drilled holes for my drain and fill hoses and sealed it with fishtank silicone...it worked for 3 months till I got a real tray...but not for long term use( mold ).

You could use a cat litter box for a tray with 4x4 Rockwool blocks and hydroton. I would do two plants. Get a small tote to use as a resevoir, add a submersible pump , an air pump with air stone , a timer for submersible pump and you are off and growing.

ahhh the air pump. forgot about that piece of equipment.... that leaves the air pump, media, and oscillating desk fan yet.... oooh so close I ordered my advanced nutrients today!

Yea people build wood frames and line them with pond liner. There are afew howtos on it here, its not cheap as I remember,and cut corners = problems.

I got a 13"x48" table from greenfire.net but they have a store in my town so I just picked it up but they have.just about every size made.

You could use a 2'x2' drain tray, you can buy them on internet hydro stores.

ok, so after a few bowls and and hour or two of brainstorming, this is what I've come up with.... I'm going to use 2x10's and make a wall around my shelf. Then I'm going to take a rubber subfloor matting and put it down into my area, hanging over and stapeling to the top of the 2x10's. found a sink drain with proper attachments at lowes, and I'll be installing that directly into the shelf and tightened against the rubber for a good seal. all thats left is my overflow drain and I should be set! the containers I bought for the planters cracked and its been a hassle, just going to try and do it myself. wish me luck! i'll try and put pics up if it works
