i am 21 now actually and the past 2 years i have saved $44,000 working 2 full times. i rent a room for cheap as fuck. i make my own food. i don't go out to spend money unless it's for food. i don't even own a cell phone. i have an ipod touch which i use the app called "texfree" which gives you a free phone number and texting unlimited with free calls to you and you can get minutes by watching advertisements. i don't really have much of a life right now. but i figure fuck it, i am 21 years old and if i want to be lounging(a little more) when i am 25 years old, i better fucking start now.
now i could've not smoked weed that entire time; but i did. which i sort of regret in a way. my girlfriend's dad at the time when i was age 19 gave me the opportunity to work at the mines but they hair follicle test so i pretty much fucked myself. the job at the mines paid $60,000 to start. i was pretty bummed out for that. i would own a house by now if i had that job. well i have been clean for 2 1/2 months now and my goal is to get a job either drilling or mining. i know it's not really the most ideal job and it's hard work, but i wouldn't be working there for too long. maybe 4 years maximum, save up as much as i can. buy a home, start a business hopefully. or buy 2 homes rent one, and live in one. i don't know man life's a toss up right now. i try not to worry about it so much right now; but god damn life is hard at this moment. i just want to live relaxed. stress free; but when you are working 16 hours a day... my life is filled with it. i don't have time for friends or anything. it's pathetic. that's the sacrifice i have made just to better my future. no girlfriend; i just want to do me right now. i've always thought about 2 is better than 1 but i don't know, solo dolo seems good to me right now til i at least buy a house.

At 23 I gross $800 a week. Me and my woman have a house, 2cars, etc. it's hard to afford certain things but I got gas in my rank , food in the fridge, bud in the jar, and clothes in my closet

I got to say something is wrong with the 20 somethings today
I used to be in charge of a plumbing crew , we were constantly hireing helper jobs . Most of them could not show up on time, always had to leave early, called in sick constantly, and slacked of every chance they got, showed up hungover/high

Google ( inflation calculator ) my father in law is 76 and is clueless, he was even a banker and hes still clueless.
Being young is so hard today, dont let anybody fool you, keep on keepin on and you will be fine, never ever settle for less than you are happy with ethically and morally , you will end up old with 3 REAL friends and thousands of people you wish you never met, such is life.

I worked on gas pipelines in Texas for 4 years to pay for my house, land, cars and guns.
Granted my house was only 54k.
Yes it is possible, you've just got to bust your ass to get what you want.

I now live in PA, but I got the job just by going up to the main office and asking if they needed help.
One thing turned into another and before I knew it I went from being paid under the table, to getting on full time with benefits.
EDIT: You're only too old for it if you're like 75. There were guys working right beside me in their 60s.
Age only hinders you if you let it, or have a condition where you cannot do hard manual labor.

Tell me that when you have worked for 30 years, i remember when i was invincible too.
In Cali the pipelines are in the desert, not that i wouldnt go , i just need to brush up on my welding a bit.
Sounds like you got a good gig, when i got out of high school in the early 80's there was no work.
Then again pa has cheaper real estate but ,,,yuck, never did like that state , the people are cool but the state always looks like its just getting over one natural disaster or another.

When I was working on the pipelines, I was in Ft. Stockton Texas. I.E. desert.
It depends what part of PA you're in, I live north of State College, in the mountains the closest town to me only has like 5000 people, my closest neighbor is 2 miles down the road and I prefer it that way. Though if you live in say, Hershey, you're gonna pay an arm and a leg for a rundown p.o.s.

I'm 25 now and in process of purchasing half of my company. I dropped out of college and high school but went back and finished High school with a diploma.
I took college courses in high school for architecture, drafting, physics, etc. I use these skills everyday at my job.
It has not been an easy path but it has had good and bad times. I am really excited about the next 10 years. My goal is to have a condo/ town home by the end of next year.
Main thing is. Do what you want. Do what you feel is right. Set goals, big and small. You will accomplish anything you target.

The gas well companies are always hiring here.
I miss the work to be honest, but I'm saving up money to open my own restaurant, as it is something I've always wanted to do.
Currently working in three different food establishments to learn all the ins and outs of supply companies, and to narrow down what kind of restaurant I want to open.

no CDL here. I got the book and read half of it. I even went as far as to trade my NH license for an in-state ND license while i was there
when i drove back in july, i pulled over in bismarck to get gas...while getting back on the on ramp of I-94, i made a right on red and the ass wipe cop gave me a ticket ($20)
i forgot to pay the ticket, got pulled over in NH 2 weeks ago and was told my license was suspended. Add $300 on top of the initial $20 ticket and much time/frustration
should have my drivers license back tuesday or wednesday next week

Surface rig in north dakota (craig's roustabout services) paid $18/hour + $46/day per diem pre-taxed + $500 in each biweekly check for travel
Trinidad (directional rig) paid $27/hour + $140/day per diem
I was lucky to get on with trinidad. Them and stoneham drilling pay the most in north dakota
but I'd rather go back to drilling and casing surfaces because the drilling fluid on a directional rig is toxic & abrasive (80% diesel fuel) and roughnecks are exposed to it constantly

I worked for MarkIII engineering in Sealy, TX. Got sent out to Ft. Stockton to weld on the gas pipelines.
Pay was good. Being a welder I made $30/hr + $100 per day in per diem.
Worked there for 4 years in a shit hotel, though I'd say it was worth it.
Worked 65 hr weeks on average.
30x65=1950
1950x52=101400
101400x4=405600 (before taxes and without overtime/ per diem added)

but i know the pay scale declines as you head south in the oil field
i'm open to doing completion well work too...perforation/wireline...not interested in frac....pumping/gauging....
i'm not a welder, but of course I've seen it many times on site and at company shops in williston
i gotta get back on a solid 2k/wk minimum, all-intensive sacrificial GRIND again
