it just sure seems ur trying to recommend T5s over HPS for flowering which as ive said even in limited spaces HPS can be done just fine. but i guess well just have to agree to disagree on this one weve both made valid points.

well i can see how it would seem that way.. your right im right..who gives a shit every grow is different trial and error is the true way i guess...hps is best no doubt

I use a 432 watt t5 for veg, I didnt get my hps 600 until I had vegged for 60 days, great results. there is a guy a icmag.com that has the cheapest & best producing method for a small setup. His name is dr bud greengenes check it out http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=85930
I wish I had learned more before I spent a ton of money

It makes sense that an HPS would penetrate farther, and be more suitable for larger plants, but what if you were doing a SOG grow, putting your clones into flowering as soon as they are comfortably transplanted? Wouldn't the plants stay compact, as they would only grow vertically during those first few weeks?
In my visualization that leaves a very shallow area that the light needs to cover. In that situation, would a T5 be able to compete realistically with an HPS? lb/year? Particularly seeing as you eliminate the need for veg time?

i gorw with t5's and additional cfls 4 42 watt....i get what your saying about hps it is ideal for weight and with proper vent you could fit it in a small grow speacialy a air cooled tube.... but if your poor and dont have the cash to put up for the lights the vent and all that goes into keeping temp at 75 flouros come into play i still have circulation by a box fan placed above my plants i went the cheapest way i could and i come out with good results always im got four weeks left to go and ill post pics/weight soon..

t5s are amazing for flowering. light penetration is not an issue. They put out more lumens at a higher par than hps to the plant. hps and all lights are measured in lumens and par. if a 1000watt hps has 150000 lumens at one foot below the plant it only has 35000 lumens 2 feet under the plant. t5s placed 1 inch from the plant are hitting the plant with many times more lumens. unless someone can show me a 1000 hps 1 inch over their crop than they are losing light. The reason t5 may not have the best rep is because people keep them too far away. done properly your hole setup should out produce hid. fans for cooling hid use watts too. my t5 setup cools with a 10 watt hepa filter. good luck man. don't forget that a 1000 watt hps is more like 1300 when you cool it and evrything else. not to mention much safer.

So, I'll soon be flowering with a t5 myself, I got a fairly high-end one (see below) and figured that I could use 3000k bulbs to flower 6 1- month old plants. Thoughts?

one month old plants potentially get pretty tall depending. raise the crown or strip the small growth and small branches from the stock to lessen the amount of canopy you need to penetrate.. im trying to sound smart and im a total dumbass

my grow is 100% T5HO (6 bulb) from start to (soon) finish. come visit my journals! in short though, my Avatar is a cola off one of them. Lookin good so far (imo) and i couldnt even afford the lower spectrum bulb this time around so i am doing flower with 6500k bulbs.

a friend of mine does but just changes the red spectrum bulbs. he got nice results but not as good as my 400watt MHconversion bulb and HPS.

What's up growers? I'm growing one plant right now. I wanted to see if I could do it before I ruined a lot of seeds. Its going good so far. I am having heat problems, but that's because I'm in a 4×4 tent inside a garage in Nevada in summer. I have t5s. I will be getting hps in the future but is it ok to flower with the t5s since it's just 1 plant? And do I need to change the bulbs? Also, should I add some cfls so the side?

Thanks for the info. I feel better about using the T5s now. Did you switch bulbs when you put them into flower? 3000K?
