Anyone ever been asked to return opiates?

I've been wondering about this since it happened....I went to my reg. Dr. appt the other day, but didn't see my regular doc. Any way when I told him I went through withdrawal everyday, he said I should switch the time and dose from 30mg2x/day to 20mg 3x/day. I am so used to new unfamiliar docs screwing with my meds that I just agree and smile. Then he turns around and tells me that I should be returning to the pharmacy, the remaining one weeks worth of morphine I have. I said no.

Time for a better informed GP ...Sounds like this guy could easily kill a person with his BS ideas. Who knows what kind of crap he's capable of or not for that matter.
You should have asked him why he feels that way? and if he's ever suffered from chronic pain.

Don't really care what he was insinuating. I've been taking this shit for 16 years and he's worried that I'm going to start selling it or something. I basically told him that I paid for it and there was no way I as returning it to the pharmacy. So I don't even know if I have the next script waiting.

That's a bizarre request. That script is your property. When I had pain medications changed, the new script was meant to start when I finished the last one. I would get 3 months at a time...if I doubled up I would go without until the 90 days was up. It's an easy system...even a doctor should be able to understand.

Exactly, it is not that easy to stockpile opiates when you need the fucking things everyday for pain. I don't even get the script - it goes directly to shoppers and I pick it up usually the day I need it. My god I was getting 1000mg/day and 5mg/m/dayl morphine all on a 3 month supply for YEARS. If I was going to sell the shit, that would have been the time to do it. Dumbass drs.

I cant see why they haven't offered better meds. Like Heroin. At least it wont destroy your heart. Last longer and it actually works comparred to masking it as I'm sure you are well aware.
They say that MMJ and Morph go hand in hand for pain. I've never been in a situation like that so I wouldn't know.
Longest I was on Morph was for two weeks. For break away pain at night when the pump wasn't cutting it.
The combo was a nightmare I wouldn't wish on anyone.
I know of another guy who suffers from chronic pain. Dammed if ya do and dammed if ya don't kinda deal.
My wife has suffered from chronic pain for most of her life. It's not something that's easily dealt with.
Ya... Doctors are regular people. Some are good, Some are bad. Some shouldn't even be practicing!

I see my pain management dod once a month over 20 plus yrs , ive had my meds start with vicoden , then darvon compound , then percodan , then ms contin , then ms contin plus fentynal patches , then dilaudid , then 20 my oxycontin plus 30 mg roxy , then 60 mg oxycontin plus 30 mg roxy , then 80 mg oxycontin 3x daily plus 30 mg roxy 3x daily , then 80mg oxycontin 3x daily plus 30 mg roxy 3x daily plus 200mg nycunta 3x daily , 240 ml tussinex monthly , a few months on Stadol NS & im sure a half dozen more ive forgotten & in all the yrs with all the different combo's & different doseages the only thing ive been asked to return was the 75mg liquid fentynal patches because dopers were dying left & right from suckin the juice out of the patches , now the patches have changed & are made without drinkable/injectable liquid .

Fuk ve got a safe full of outdated opiates all the way back to the old darvons with the little yellow ball inside the capsul & several hundred 60 mg ms contin i never used to start with but they kept giving them to me , morphine gives me severe migranes so i never used them , your doc is just being a responsible doctor who's trying to keep unused opiates off the streets , if he's changing your doseage & asks you to return the unused pills it has to be because he changed your doseage & wrote new scripts before your time to get new refils .

If you truly need the meds dont fuk yourself out of a doctor over a few pills .

I'm almost done and wouldn't really care if I didn't get another script. I have had handfuls of pills and this is the first time I was told to return them. I only had like 6 days on the old script...makes no sense to me.

It makes sense , you said the reason in your post , you had 6 days left on your old script , that IS the reason you were asked to return unused meds , america is smack in the middle of the largest abuse of prescription opiates the country has ever seen , it's reached epidemic porportions with more pills on the street now than in the 70's , doctors are under heavy scrutiny from the DEA as well as all pharmacies , all pharmacies now participate in state & nationwide cooperation where they report doctors who write scripts early or write high volume scripts .

Had you went to any pharmacy in your state with another script 6 days early the pharmacist would most likely refused to fill the script & reported the doctor to the DEA , all pharmacies are linked nowdays & see all the scripts you cash at any other pharmacy , you shouldnt be angry the doc was just protecting his ass , for every 1 real pain patient there is 3 fakers after dope to use or sell .

I have been taking a massive dose for more than 10 years. It should be irrelevant that I had six days left. I have not ever abused my medication and I can assure you that when I was getting 1000 +mg/day 3 months at a time nobody was worried I was doing anything other than chewing those fuckers. What if I was going away and wasn't going to be here in 6 days? I should do what? If they can't keep track of this shit well enough and know whether or not I am coming in more than once a month for my script, after this many years of me being in the system and the system itself existing then they are screwed no matter what system they put in place. My regular doc has no problems giving me scripts in advance of the current script being done. History is what it boils down to and I guess I'm a little sensitive when I think I'm being accused of doing things I don't.

Not sure if it has happened up north, but down here there has recently been a real opiate information / education / limiting going on with the docs. New opiate death stats came out and they are horrific. I think it genuinely scared some doctors.

I doubt that the issue was you...

Oh I know it's a problem....and at this point after this many years and being so close to being done with it for good, I just kind of looked at him like he was on glue and left.

I would say it more than likely has trickled up here....I'm sure I'll hear about it when I see my regular doc next! I sort of have a love /hate relationship with docs.

Look bro your preaching to the choir with me , if you've been on pain med's for 10 yrs then obviously you have something going on with your health & i can empathise , i know exactly how you feel with the love hate deal about doctors , im sofa bound right now from my latest surgery & cutting up 80 mg oxycontins in the pill cutter 3 at a time on top of wearing a 75 mg fentynal patch & it still isnt enough to even give me a head rush , ive been thru countless back surgeries , skin grafts , months in the burn unit , had atleast 50 fukin MRI's & had more cameras up my ass then Liberachi had dicks in his , and if that aint enough to make me sick of doctors now the good lord has blessed me with testicule cancer , they just tore my nutts out 3 days ago & replaced them with implants & sewed my sack up so tight it's tighter than a tomcat's nutt's , im in my 60's with the sack of a 10 yr old .

All i was tryin to get across is opiate abuse is an epidemic world wide , even in Canada , France is handing out PK's to all who come , people all over europe are flocking to france to score mass quantities of opiates , it's really starting to look like Holland has the best method for dealing with addicts , while you may not be an addict & dont sell your meds many people do & it's causing real conflict in the medical profession , my doc will write me 6 months worth of scripts in advance & post date them when i was well enough to travel while his bitch of an assistant try's to give me suboxone , ive been opiate dependant over 25 yrs wtf am i gonna do with suboxone i asked her , she get's all hissy & sends the doc in to see me & he allways reminds me she's worried about loosing her licence , all it takes is for 1 dope fiend to sell his meds to a teenager who's parents sue everybody when their stoner kid od's & the doctors fuked , when you put yourself in their shoes it's hard to blame a new doc , especially 1 who isnt familiar with your case history .

After my surgery the surgeon had me getting intramuscluar demerol injections every 4 hrs & it wasnt doing anything , my pain doc over rode the surgeon & ordered fentynal IV every 2 hrs on top of the 4 hr demerol IM shots & i was pain free , it boils down to doctors being afraid of being used by fakers who'll throw them under the bus & the relationship you have with your pain doc , you just got an assistant who wasnt versed with your medical issues & was simply trying to stay safe & not put their livelyhood on the line , i hope shit gets better for you & your health because i know how hard it is to live in pain , just remember getting angry at the doc's isnt gonna help .

After taking opiates for 10 years plus ..... I know I'm an addict, the system has made me that way. OMG if I miss a dose! So the difference is my body is totally addicted but my mind is not...... but I am an addict pure and simple. I just go to the pharmacy rather than the guy on the street corner.
