I have a carbon filter and fan from Ipower and it seems to work just fine. I would go for it. :-)

I run two 1000 watt and a 600 watt ipower... They've been more than perfect for me and they're cheap! Grab 'em up!

I use the Ipower carbon filter and fan as well haha no smell and it recycles the air in my 8x8 great with just negative pressure.. I don't run an AC and my temps stay at 75-77 so that in itself should be a testament on their air cooled hoods!

Ran a 400w last harvest, purchased another 400w for this years harvest, never had any problems personally. Can't speak to how much additional penetration you will see with the upgrade to 600w though.

My first 600w ipower ballast died at like 360days, customer service was peachy and it got replaced.

My second one just died last night... it was 5 months old.... RMA in progress....

Thinking of getting one more ballast, either a 250 or a 400, but this latest failure has me wondering if I should stear away from the ipower brand with the new one(s).

I use a 400w cooltube and 600w hood. Both have worked fine for me so far. If anything I thought of investing in better bulbs.

Most likely too late to the party, but I'll give you my experience with them anyway.

I've been using Ipower for quite some time, basically since they began selling their products on Amazon.
Over the years I've purchased multiple sets of their kits, and also been recommending their products, here's why..

When I first started purchasing their products, they were very cheaply made, and actually more expensive by 50-75%.
Over the years they have been expanding and using better quality parts and material and growing as a company.
They've gone through about 4 different models since they starting selling their lights, I know this because there warranty is also the best I've come across.

When I first purchased my lights, I knew they wouldn't last long, right out the box I knew it was cheap.
6 Months later it broke, they shipped out another replacement the moment I called, and stated just return it when I could.
They ended up giving me the newer model as a replacement, that was built better, but still pretty cheap. The point is they took care of me, and still do today, years later.

A few months ago 2 of my ballast went out, after 2+ years of use. I called Ipower, not having my receipt or knowing the exact date I purchased them, yet they still shipped out 2 new replacements even before I shipped out the dead ones. Now the replacements I received are very good quality. They come with a lot of features the top brands come with, and are designed a bit better for appeal (The older models were giant bricks, and yes they were digital).

So over the years I've witnessed this company becoming better, they are the setup on the budget, but good quality suppliers.
Their bulbs are even pretty good compared to other cheap bulbs, theirs are about $10-15 each. They aren't the best, but they yielded quite a bit when I grew under them.

All in all great product and company, I'll continue to use them until LEDs become more efficient and cost effective.

Beware buying on Ebay though, I don't know if they cover their warranty for items purchased on Ebay. Only because a supplier could be supplying you with old returned units that are way past their dates. I would get it from Amazon if you could, they provide a excellent return or replacement system if you have issues, unlike Ebay, they don't ask questions.

Been away a bit from forums but this topic had came to memory so I thought I'd check any replies after april, apologies for the slight necro.

I can confirm there is atleast one legitimate dealer on ebay that sells ipower products, high reputation and lots of transactions. The ballasts I've purchased through hpsgrowlightstore are legit. 99.6% positive user rating, over 10k transactions. When you open the package it has pamphlet from ipower directing you to the site to register your ballast for the warranty, aswell as numbers to call for any issues with returning the ballast.

Watch out for RF. Some ballasts come with decent shielding but the cheaper models don't. You could end up with a visit form the cable company. :peace:
