Iam about to transfer some midnight kush clones from my aero cloner to my 2x2 ebb and flow to raise as mothers. Just like the title states, is this possible? I figured since many use rockwool I could just treat it the same flooding once a day tops(mayb twice with more advanced moms). The only reason I want to us it is because I have a huge 4cu bag of it and would rather us it as oppose to getting more media shipped. I do have some perlite I could cut it with but not enough for all 8 clones.
If I left any details out that you'd like to know just ask and I'll answer them as best as I can
Last question I figure vermiculite is just as absorbent as rockwool, mayb a lil more or less. Is this true?
Peace and good vibes to all

you should look into hempy buckets.. i have a few laying around, and have tried them a lil, but the plants in them turned out to be males, so i pulled them and havent used them since.. but in the hempy system, your just using vermiculate as your medium.. you than just fill like a five gallon bucket with it.. than you have to drill a hole about two inches up from the bottom of the bucket and attach something to allow the water to drain out, and you simply feed them from the top till you get some runoff out of the drainhole, and the roots basically are always in about two or so inches of water and nutes.. super super simple hydroponics setup.. and i have seen some pretty good results online with people who have used them.. but like i said, i had to pull mine early..
so, yah, to answer your original ?, yes, you can use verm. as a medium, lmao..

Racerboy- thanks for the quick response. Yes I have used the hempy bucket method with good results, it was attually my very 1st couple of grows. Its the reason I have so much of it now because iam upgrading to ebb and flow Al B. Fuct style. I currently have a couple stinkbud aeros up and running but going to swicth to 4 2x2 tables in a month mayb 2. As far as using vermiculite only in hempy I've never read any where that its recommended. Bont get me wrong iam sure its possible. In fact I did just that temporaliy because my perlite had yet to arrive but transfered as soon as it arrived. Most will say to us 1 part V. to 3 parts P from what I've read(even by hempy hiself). But I ended up just using straight perlite with better results, the resaon I have so much of this stuff around. So yes iam very familiar with the hempy but changeing because iam going sog and as you can imgine hand watering 80 plus plants at a time is just not realistic.
Thanks again for the post

sounds like you've got a nice grow going there m8.. i'd love to try some hydro, but to be honest, it makes me super nervous.. a good friend of mine is trying her first attempt at dwc, and is already having problems keeping her res. cool enough, and she's got a lot more experience than i do in dirt, so that already makes me nervous..

Don't be nervous. If anything adleast get your feet wet, you don't have to dive in,lol. Tell your friend that in my experience its best to use chemical nutes, as you can than use h2o2 35% food grade every 3-4 days as a prevenative. It kills pathogens and varies other things that you don't want in your water. I can go on and on about the benefits of it but I'll stop there, lol. As long as she does this it she won't really have to worry so much about rez temps as lon as they aren't outragous.

Res Temps, the wetheads nightmare,,,,,,,,,,,,

There is a simple, cost EFFECTIVE way to control the temps.

I have found that in Flower a res temp between 65f and 68f is ideal for MY set up.

When I start seeds in or switch babies from the vermiculite to the tubs net pots with hydrotron
placing the roots at the bottom of the net. That's why I stretch em a bit. Works for me.

In the rooting stage water temps in MY setup is ideal at 75f to 78F. When I see the roots dropping out of the bottom of the net pots I chill it down to 68F. Ambient air temps will affect the air going into the air stones so evey 4 or 5 days I drop in a 1 ltr pop bottle with frozen water in it.

But then I am very OCD about my Labs and CONTROLLING every aspect of the grow.
It is a disease, not a disorder.

Hope this helps.
