Mainly looking for an equivalent for Roots Potting Soil that subcool uses. Something available here. I am very interested in giving Super Soil a shot. Just not sure what will work as opposed to the Roots, or if Subcool is even using Roots anymore.

PROMIX buddy! Sunshine mix is popular too I have only used Promix and it is a professional mix. Are you on the west coast?

I can get this stuff at my hydrostore : http://www.welcomeharvestfarm.com/ their amendments are GREAT!

its from the amish people they sell tons of goods like jam, fruits veggies, and stuff , and some of it is their soil mixes that they use for their own crops that they make. I wouldn't say 100% doesn't have some sort of shit in it, but I know the difference between a crap ton of shit and soil LOL

Thanks for the suggestions guys, lots of good information. Couple more questions now.

- Which Promix do you guys use exactly? This stuff -
http://www.rona.ca/en/professional-growing-medium-89465001

- I see shawn adds things to his promix that are not in the recipe? Would I be required to do this if I did indeed use promix, or would it work fine without extra aditions above and beyond the recipe.

- Is there an updated version of his recipe anywhere on this forum?

Thanks for the help so far.

follow the recipe with whatever promix you can find is good. If it doesnt say mycorizzae on it, I would consider buying it and using it at transplant. http://www.gardenerspantry.ca/microorganisms/mycorrhizal-fungi.html

you can take a look at my current recipe for ideas. It doesnt have to be exactly what sub used, u can substitute, play with it and make it your own.

i cant tell difference between the 2 ... the amendments are from http://www.welcomeharvestfarm.com/ and from local nursery

  • SUPERSOIL 1

    3.8 cu ft promix
    1.1kg FlowerPower 10-4-10

    2cups Guano 4-26-1

    30 litres worm castings
    1cup Gypsum
    2 Tbsp Humic Acid

If you live in/near BC reindeer natural sells good earthworm casting's and he imports neem seed meal (http://reindeersnatural.ca/)

Gia green sells great amendments as well, and they have distributors all across Canada.

you can make up your own roots soil with enough amendments, just start with a organic topsoil or potting mix

Thanks again.

So am I correct in thinking, that if I do go with pro-mix. I start my seeds (after germination) in just some normal pro-mix. After 3 weeks or so, transplant them into a pot that is half full of super soil, and half full of pro-mix?

Should I PH my water while they are seedlings, and should I PH my water once they reach the super soil?

If your using fully organic amendments, soil, and liquid fertilizers(liquid kelp, fish emulsion, liquid beneficial bacteria)
you don't need to worry about ph at all.

but I'm going to mention you should either filter your tap water through carbon,or aerate your water in a bucket for 6-24 hours before use, this will remove the chlorine that will kill your benificial bacteria in the soil.

also compost teas will really help your soil biodiversity

I will be using RO water.

Anyone have a link to his current recipe? I can only find information about his older ones (that use Rock phosphate). I guess my base soil will be Pro-Mix BX. I will need to add some extra coco I assume.

I just plan to mix it all up as per his recipe. Not adding anything extra (until I get the hang of it). Would the water need to be PH'd just using his normal formula, and will it last right through flower, or will I need to buy a bunch of organic nutrients to use with it?

Thanks for all the help.
