My girlfriends favourite flowers are sun flowers.... So I'm growing them for her but I don't know anything about it. I'm asking anyone about what they know, where to get seeds, varieties, planting season, germination... Anyone who knows anything that could help please do so.

you should be able to get seeds from any hardware store or ebay i guess, plant em in spring, they dont take too long to grow. Planting them in normal compost should be fine, however Ive planted them with a comfrey leaf and some fish emulsion with good results. There are many varieties that differ in size and colour. I like a row of Russian giant variety, with a row of the mini ones in front.

they all grow about the same IME, just make sure to give them a spot with plenty of sun, obviously... other than that, I've found sunflowers to be rather simple and hardy plants.

In colder regions where there is a short growing season, they can be started indoors first and then transplanted into groups or a nice straight line for a border. I planted dwarf sunflowers last year and i really liked them.

I grew some 2 years ago and they got between 10-12 feet with nothing more than regular watering! Not sure what variety, but they're pretty simple to grow. As they do get big plan accordingly. Good luck man.
