I know this has nothing to do with growing at all but in episode 107 of the weed nerd sub mentioned some weed gave him anxiety and I was curious if you were also anyone else has had that problem or had a panic attack from it? It's a very unpleasant thing as I have experienced it and recently had to stop smoking due to panic attacks and I would like to know of some strains that may not cause this problem.

Hopefully no one jumps on me too hard because it has nothin to do with growing haha I'm just looking for some help and the organic Community seems very friendly!

Hey bro you don't have to quit you just have to start getting indicas...sativas can cause panic attacks because the high is diffrent

I will disagree w/ this comment. Some sativas (in the correct dosage) can do wonders for anxiety and some people can have anxiety issues with indicas too.

Anxiety and depression are my #1 when looking for strains.

Jillybean, Space Dawg, Querkle, Qush & Vortex (in the right doses). These all have anti-anxiety/anti-depression traits.

I find that sativa leaning "Skunks" can get my heart going and I just stay away from anything w/ considerable "haze" traits.

As the poet Joe Rogan says ( :p ) Paranoia is just a part of the trip, i never had bad trip to the point where i would call it a panick attack but just like some people argued that having the "blues" - melancolia - is a part of life if you consider marijuana as a tool, a substance that enhance your present state, it wont always be a smilling-gigling trip.

In my early days i'd love to smoke and start letting my mind wonder on many subject, trying to analyze thought just like you do with music when you first blaze and listen to your favorite tracks. It seems over-powering at first and then - with time - you start riding the wawe and get much deeper into tunes you've heard a hundred time before, without never getting them as a whole...

My point is , if marijuana is a tool one just need to get use to it and try to make the best usage, sure the doseage will make a huge difference in how your trip is going , but embracing those thoughtfull moment rather than trying to escaping from them with an other hit might be an other path for those seeing paranoia as a "bad thing" - again there's a large spectrum in every things and states and what one call's bad trip, paranoia or panick attack largely differ.
Understand that i'm talking about mild melancolia, those moments where smoking put's the shit in your life in front of your face and tells you "alright boy what the hell are we gonna do about that?"

    Peace!

In my experience, overdoing it is what causes anxiety or panic! I smoke to alleviate anxiety and depression, and I do it with sativas because indicas just put me to sleep (unless it's late at night and that's what I want, then I smoke an indica). Like Geekmike, I'm a fan of Subcool's medicine -- I'm growing Jillybean right now and Space Dawg is next.

I don't smoke joints anymore because the "pressure" to finish the joint means I've smoked too much, even sharing one joint with a bunch of friends. And lighting/relighting wastes a lot of weed. And when I smoke too much, I get anxious, paranoid, stressed and miserable.

Instead I use a Magic Flight Launch Box portable vaporizer. Grind a little herb. Put it in the box. Hit it once. Wait 10-15 minutes and hit it again. Wait 10-15 minutes and see where I'm at. At that point the anxiety/stress/panic I had leaves my body and my mind -- and that's where I stay. It's perfect. And a tiny amount of weed does it.

But that's just my use and tolerance level. Someone else might need a lot more for what relief he's looking for. I'm just saying that sometimes the panic that comes with smoking might be a sign of overdoing...

I think when you cut down the plant has something to do with it too. I recently took a plant way early at 53 days flower, not a amber trich to be seen, and while I thought it was weak but enjoyable, both my sister and friend loved it. They always complain that it's to powerful and gives them anxiety or paranoia. This had a very light buzz, no heaviness feeling. And that was a sativa dominant strain.

You guys are awesome I wish that I had of stopped by here a few months ago before I stated taking anti depressants. They have really turned my life around for the better because I was pretty bad off but I don't like the idea of being dependent on a pill bottle the rest of my life I'm not that old haha!

Have any of you guys been on anti depressants? I wonder if it'll hurt to smoke while one them?

I'm pretty sure my anxiety and major panic attacks are genetic because my grandmother, mother, and aunts all have the same problems and all rely on prescriptions to get through daily life. I'm hoping to break the mold and do it the all natural way in 2013! Whisk me luck guys I've heard coming off of them was a bitch!

One last thing haha if you look at my join date and how many post I have you can tell I'm a major lurker I'm not too active in the forums I just like the beautiful pictures you guys post

Good for you. I absolutely hate pills and would only take them as a last resort. I have never been on meds but was recently reading about different treatments for mania (not for me, by the way) and someone was saying that when they're on lithium it's like a world without color. I don't know why that phrase just stuck with me. A world without color, everythings just blah. That would suck. Anyhoo good luck breaking the mold.

The side effects were far worse than what I originally went to the doctor for I couldn't even ejaculate it was horrible! I'm sure that's more info than what you guys wanted but I just thought I'd throw it out there haha

now I'm on effexor and I can't get to sleep till about 5 in the am but everything else is back to normal thankfully

The problem with many psychiatric diagnose is that they're just like conspiracy hteory - i'm not saying their bullshit but that because they havent been studied for a long time people uses the same term to name extremely diverse scenarios.

I dont think anyone could use his own experience to give you guide lines, try to listen to your body, everyone react differently to weed and different strain will put you in different places.
As far as cutting down the pills you should check out one company named onnit - i aint working for J.Rogan or the mentionned company i swear - those guys sell a pill named "new mood" it pretty much have the same effect that chemical anti depressor has but it's nothing but plant extracts.
Maybe it could help you witht he withdrawal, if you say that this things runs in your familly you might wanna do thing one step at a time to avoid going from one state to an other. It's been reported that many people that'll quit their medecine when they first start feeling better quckly go back to their previous state as the treatment is all about building up certains chemical in your brain.

Best thing would be to have a discussion with a doctor you trust, he would be much more able than most of us to give you good advices.

Good luck with all that and keep looking for other treatment, i'm sure those chemicals arent the only way to go!

    Peace!

I appreciate it ill have to check those pills out.

I think they jump into prescribing psychiatric medication way too fast because they sit down in a room with you for less than 10 minutes and get a general idea of what's wrong and write you a script and your on off! To the races we go! Haha

Im not going to stop taking the anti depressants Until I talk to my doctor because the withdrawal effects are horrible I've heard and that's exactly what I don't want to go through I can't take anymore stress from this. Therapy has really helped too and my therapist is completely anti prescription she is a fan of the "all natural" way herself haha

My uncle is on anxiety pills and he smokes...so you'll be fine, and most indicas are used to treat anxiety...they mellow you out usually, you want 80% indica or more....sativas usually give an uplifting high which can sometimes cause panic attacks

Yes I also use lots of Indica Hash as well but I cant always do my job so well after 3 bowls of bubble hehe

I used to be on a crap-load of pharms and I was able to smoke on them for the most part. Some just made it worse. I was on Doxepin at one point, and the only time I smoked on that, I literally blacked out for a few hours. I guess smoking weed with a human tranquilizer wasn't a good idea. Nonetheless, I've been off pharms for a long time now. I took myself off them and started smoking weed full-time. Now I'm able to manage my issues with a little bit of green grass. And like Subcool, sometimes the small things can set me off so easily, and I'm like, "wow, did I really just have a freak out over that?" But as far as strains causing anxiety, I can't really comment on that. I have smoked a lot in the past 13 years since High School (about when I quit pharms), and a lot of different strains, and none of them caused me anxiety. But I guess it really depends on your body. When I smoke, especially if I'm having a panic attack, or just got done with one, it ALWAYS calms me right down. Like really calms me down. As if someone gave me a horse tranq. So, I think a big part of it is your body, but then again, there are strains that produce more uplifting highs than others and that could trigger someone's anxiety disorder.

I agree 100%. This clip from Terence Mckenna seems to be especially relevant here...

I have a Servere Anxiety Disorder... It also comes from my mother. My brother deals with it as well. Some say it's genetic. some same Anxiety is not. I been smoking weed since I was in sixth grade. I'm now 30. I had got diag. for Anxiety at age 26. I took meds for Anxiety and was taking pills for high blood pressure. It was not a good feeling having to rely on pills. I had more side effects on meds then I have had taking any drug I used in my life, and of course I experinced with many diffent drugs. I then reasearched on my own and actually smoking good Sativa/Indica weed does help me, even way more then the pills did. Everyones chermical balance is different and off my experience you just have to research and find out what type of strand suits you the best. I now grow my own and beleive that I should not have to worry about buying pot from my friend/ dope dealer and make them rich when I or you can grow and smoke your own. You don't have to worry about your weed being tampered with... You grow it you smoke it no need to worry about people stepping on your meds. As a smoker at startred at a such a young age I don't abuse it like I used too. I would smoke many blunts joints all day long. You only need a few bowls to get that medical high a patient needs again depends on the strand that fits "you." Som Anxiety was due to smoking but again for me I was over-dosed, or it was just more of a Sativa agian it all depends on what type of high you want and need at that time. In the morn. I would smoke a Sativa and at night before bed I would do a Indica.

Thanks for sharing! I wish they'd start a room here for medical reports -- where people can post their responses to different strains and say whether it helped a particular condition or not. I know that leafly.com can be helpful there, but I'd like to see our community to this, too.

Let's start a thread. I will help and I know a bunch of people on here I can get involved. Start up the thread and then shoot me the link. This would be a great thing to have on here, and I think any of the mods would sticky it for us.
