Amsterdam To Keep Tourist Out Of Coffee Shops! (Again)

So someone says every single English and African person in Amsterdam is worthy of ignoring. This isn't racist to you? Worthy of being discounted.

I don't think this is the case, however, I will agree that some people of an African descent are hustling on the streets of Amsterdam. I will agree that some of my English brethren in Amsterdam are annoying. But these activities are not limited to any specific Ethnic group. To say or believe so is racist.

Sure, don't they have a hemp product competition? I hear you talking a lot about regulating like wine, why not like grapes instead? Oh and thank you.

? I don't know what the status of the hemp is. I think there was a Bill.. Let me google.http://www.californiaprogressreport.com/site/node/8981 And there are national efforts.

What I see is that there are more than one "stream" of efforts to decrim and or legalize all aspects of cannabis in California.

Hemp seems to have some support. But, with hemp wouldn't that be more an industrial convention kind of event more than a local "pageant" kind of cannabis cup event? (Cannabis Cup used without permission of High Times)

Hey Ernst, I too was wondering what the differences would be between regulating like wine and regulating like beer, or any other alcohol. Also, if Amsterdam does this, and it hurts them economically, perhaps the U.S. can use it as an example.
They're biting themselves in the ass.

well, there goes 90% of their tourists revenue. heh..

why do they think people come to Amsterdam to begin with?!? To visit the Coffee Shops and to smoke all kinds of different strains of cannabis. Thats why.

I've been there twice now.. not recently though so I don't know how true this really is. Last time I was there, was back in 2007 and my friends and I were welcomed

into every coffee shop we entered. So, if this is indeed true.. well, then that just plain sucks! :|

Not only does it suck.. but IMO, I think its a very ignorant thing to do on their behalf because like I mentioned a second ago.. 90% of their annual revenue comes from people like me who travel to their country to spend money and smoke bud. If they want to cut that part out.. well then we'll just have to see how things go. I don't think that this new "rule" will last very long.. especially once they see how bad their revenue will drop.

oh well though.. if its true? Well, then there's nothing we can do about it I guess. It is what it is..

peace.

Revenue won't drop if the natives ramp up marijuana consumption... a lot. They are giving out 1500 memberships EACH shop... we shall see what happens my friend, I hope it's all bullshit. I want to go... ADam appears more golden to me than Las Vegas

I am confused as well..

I do know that it's very unpopular here to suggest we break the efforts up into three separate efforts.
The Horticulture, use and private non-commercial trade first before commerce has been tossed around in this forum and it caused a lot of discomfort.

We (generally speaking) seem willing to piss off the vote in 2012 in favor of many smaller back room deals such as the sequence of Bills being considered at this time in California.
This week we will see what the Medical Use rights Bill does. It is called a Job Killer but we have a Democrat at the helm.

So I thought that the Prop 19 was too complex for the average voter in 2010. I have suggested a simpler three Initiative process but those desperate to sell weed at prohibition prices want freedom for them and restrictions on the home gardener especially where proper horticulture rights are concerned.
Now The main thing I see with regulate marijuana like wine is that it adopts the wine law structure to define the behaviour of cannabis commerce and horticulture.

So I will raise my hand and say I do not understand all aspects of RMLW but I see Horticulture rights in there and maybe even the right to hold local competitions of privately produced produce.

I am open to corrections but, now is not too soon to start banging the drum. We only have to do it right once and then we can go back to sleep. :)

Edit----

Oh on the Ban.. It may have a lot to do with Germany and other EU nations too. I mean much of the building restoration in Amsterdam is dependant on the economy.
I'm sure they are aware of that but they may have to appease German and Dutch to address the "U-Turn" Cannabis tourists who drive over to buy weed then head home.
Turns some towns into a Quick-Stop I understand.

Oh cool.

On the Racism issue. I don't think pointing out a group of people that hustle and are generally bad news for the common tourist is racism.

So I don't think any of us who have visited and know about these guys are anti-African.

In general avoid all drug deals and other issues with anyone on the streets and remember undercover police are everywhere and are people you least expect to be.

Not much gets by them.

All in All if you are a good tourist they love ya!

I was a fantastic money spending American and I felt loved most of the time and when I didn't relief was around the corner and waiting in the windows :)

Fair enough it was just a very lazy blanket statement on the part of the original poster.

However, I think we're in agreement when I say that, currently, the greatest threat or "bad news" for common tourism is not hustling Africans or yobbish English people but the Dutch Government itself! :D

In all fairness the Dutch people are far too tolerant to enforce this on a large scale, much like the ban on smoking tobacco indoors which is still today widely ignored by the coffeeshops, pubs and restaurants of the Netherlands. Hopefully this law will follow the same path. If not well... there's always Prague. The so-called Amsterdam of the East

Right, Sorry I should of been more specific. There is lots of good African people in Amsterdam but the good ones you will find not on the street motioning you over, it should become obvious to anyone that they are trying a scam, just be aware of scams that's what I should of said. :)

P.S. And the good Englishmen arent obnoxiously drunk :)

Those guys are probably good people too it's just the trouble of getting involved with the hustle crowd as a tourist that people warn others about.

Why ruin a vacation with some hustling crap?

They "The Black Men" are famous as far as I know. I was warned before I went and I experienced "Those Black Men" who were into hustling because I was curious.

So nothing to do with hate of any kind just a warning to tourists to avoid getting into trouble because, I warn you, the undercover police are everywhere and it will ruin your day to get processed by the police there when you want to go party.

Another reason the coffeeshops are such a good idea- I don't like the crime and rip-offs associated with street dealing. Also the general anti-tobacco vibe has helped people I know cut down or give up on cigarettes.
