Am I close to harvest time?

Here are a couple of pictures I took today. First time doing this by myself and would love to get some help. I want to max out the thc...duh, who doesn't? I know there is a window of peak time to harvest. Am I in it? I have trimmed a couple of buds, and it definitely gets you high right now, but...

The strain is Fruit Punch. It is outdoors in a pot. I'm in NJ, USA.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks! 20150915_145330.jpg

Get something that magnifies the trichomes and wait till they start turning amber. Some harvest when cloudy for more of a head high. Waiting till they are 50 to 70 percent amber will give more of a couch high. Up to you when to chop... I prefer to wait until the they are cloudy with about 30 percent turned amber.
However - this time I have a lot of Afghani that I'm waiting till they are 90 percent amber due to the strain having a weaker kind of buzz...

You would do best by reading up on what people use to magnify... Some very inexpensive tools can be had for 10 dollars. I bought a cheap USB microscope for about 25 bucks... It sucks so I got a better one for 75 dollars.

Thanks for your help. Yeah, I need to break down and buy some kind of magnifying device I guess. Really want to get this right.

As Final Phase mentioned, most of us use something to magnify the trichomes to get as perfect a window of opportunity as possible, if you don't have anything on hand, just make sure the white pistils have turned reddish, brown and have mostly receded into the but.
Flush them with water for 5 to 7 days before cutting and drying.
Good luck

Thanks! Some of the pistils have turned color, but guess I still have some time. Going to buy a magnifying device today. Then I'll know for sure. Thanks again!

Yeah your way better off going by trichs and by the looks of things you have time to get yourself a magnifying lens of some sort to help ....I personally wouldn't go by pistils alone why do all that hard work to make a guess at the end definately get those trichs looked at good luck

I agree, but for those who don't have a magnifier, the least they can do is to make sure the pistils are not white, they have to look for orange or brownish and mostly receded in buds. But nothing beats a loupe and checking the trichomes .

Hey thanks for your input guys. I did order a hand held microscope for $13. Should have it next week. In the meantime I'll just keep drooling over all these buds. Some of them are really nice! They still have a lot of white pistils and they haven't really receded into the bud yet, so I guess I've still got to wait. Getting antsy though. Yesterday a local cop walked into my yard to tell me I had to move my car so utility workers could dig a hole in the street. Luckily I was on the porch and met him halfway so he could not see it. If he had come up to my front door I would have been busted because you can see it clearly from the porch, but not from the front yard. Can't wait for those amber trichomes!

You're 2-3 weeks away from harvest. Scopes are nice, BUT, in addition to whatever ratio of clear / cloudy / amber trichs you desire the following 2 things need to happen as well.

1) Pistills (hairs) turn dark and recede into buds. Not even close on your plant yet.

2) The entire plant just looks done. You'll know it when you see it.

Be patient & good luck

Thanks Johnny! I can hold out another 2-3 weeks.

fuck microscopes, fuk trichomes.... KISS or u will fuk ur bud checking it every five minutes.... once u have seen fat swollen cyclxes u know when it's ready. Most of yr green flesh in y bud should be cyclax or yr finished product will be a pile of whispy underweight shite.

You don't have to harvest the whole plant at once either. Do it over a few days or a week if possible.
Yeah, I've been thinking about that. The tops are much further along than many of the lower and inner buds. I thought I would just take them as they mature.

I really don't know what I'm doing but this site and people like you have been really helpful throughout the process. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I appreciate it.

no I would say about two more weeks
Thanks! That seems to be the predominant opinion. The microscope I ordered should be here tomorrow. That should help confirm readiness. But I think you're right, 2 weeks...and maybe longer for the less developed buds.

I really appreciate you weighing in.
