Would you consider buying a VERO after reading through some of the posts?

Sorry, been a busy month. My main question was about the safety of running in parallel. The confirmed to me that there is nothing to worry about. My other was about thermal runaway with the way this community is using them, underdriven. They said it is unlikely we would have issues. 4 of my lights are 200 watt floodlights with 4 Bridgelux COB ( not Veros) and 2 meanwell cen100-36 inside. Now I have 8 of the old chips in one housing @ 25 watts each, one will gets 8 Vero 29s @ 25 watts each, one is a combo of new and old, and one I kept fully intact. It makes a great waterproof worklight for outside. These lights came with them running in parallel. I can't give you accurate harvest results, due to almost a year of horrible #s trying to grow in rockwool cubes. I don't have the schedule to always keep up with maintaining them. Now I am back to soil and will have results in about a month. The right side is the last of the rockwool cubes. Never again.

Did you ask just for parallel wiring or do you ask for string in parallel?
Like 3 string of 5× v10 wire in parallel!I don't want to check all cob vf...but I have to I guess!?
So maybe cxa2530 should be easier to build in series...idk

Thanks it will be cool
It is harder for me to speak with someone than to write to...accent and speed change everything...lol
My uncle was from Virginia and I did never understood what he was saying...even her wife(french) and my two cousins born in US had problems to catch his words/sentence...lol!
It was like one long big word...
The one I remenber most (cause I didn't see him many time but for long periods 5/6; weeks and when you are a young french boy in the 80's have US family was something I was proud of...!) Is:"IGANNAGATABEE!!!!...LMFAO!
Do you understand that!!!!!
I am going to get a beer...that's it!
It was like this all the time...I miss him he was a Vietnam vet and a hells angel very scary but very nice too...me on an harley in Yosemite...good memories!

Hey guys I'm new to the DIY Led phenomena going on. After trying to purchase a decent size LED without going into debt I realized the only way to go is DIY. Whoever can take the time out of their day and answer some of these questions will forever have a special place in my heart.

I want to build veg and flowering lights. For vegging I will have a 2'x 4'x 5' tent that I want to nicely fill with LEDs. I'm leaning towards 2 panels for 8 plants total. Are these parts compatable? Any other recommendations would be appreciated (ie. use one panel or 4)

Parts:
(Eight) Vero 18 cobs 5000k, 70 cri (driving them @1.05a)

(2) HLG-80h-c700 (sorry HLG-120H-C1050 *edited*)

(2) 12" x 5.886 heatsink from Heatsinkusa

Other questions in regards to my veg station:

-Is the cob spacing going to be sufficient enough?

-Will I need active or passive cooling?

-Should I look into reflectors/lenses?

-Should I mix 5000/4000k spectrums?

For the flowering I want to do 4 panels for a 4x4 space (this is only temporary; potentially I have 4'x8' space).
The parts I've decided to go with are:

(16)CXB 3070 3000k

(4) HLG-185H-C1400

(4) 5.886" x 12" (or would I need 24" for active? I want to have it somewhere in between. Where as if my fan dies or something there's still a chance for the rig to survive.

Questions regarding flowering panels/general questions:

-Should I mix 3000k/4000k for the flowering panels?

-Is it possible to go completely solderless with these builds?

-Will I need a dimmer for this set up right away?

-Any extra spectrums I should order/mess with? Or should I stick with the main lights for now and expand on it later?

I am not all that tech savy, neither hardware savy, so avoiding drilling and stuff would be nice but I am not ruling it out (willing to rent hardware for the days I assemble).I was also juggling the idea of maybe using Alpine+ (which I don't want to rule out as well for the heatsink options) because it's just cool and seems easy to set up with. I might be able to get a hand with helping me build this but I really would like to tackle it on my own. Any feedback/comments are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Blessed day to all,

Too many questions
But...how you gonna drive the v18 @1050 with 700mA drivers?
Too small hs imo for the cxb...2 max on those hs with a 50mm fan on each!
I have a 1000x165x35mm (38x6,5x1,4) 14 fins cut in 4 pieces with a 120mm fan on each cooling 4 cxb 3590 3500ºk 36V CD @1400mA (50w each...200w) and if I stop the fans it get hot but not too much so in case of fan failure I am covered...I can sleep like a baby!
Don't go cheap on cooling it is what is going to hallow you to keep the cobs for a very long time(50000h...10years!)
You have multiple exemple on the site...read a bit and the list of questions gonna be shorter!
Have a great day ★

And no need to rent tool...
An electric screw driver is enough to make a hole in aluminum (better than a drill machine) it is all that you need and self taped screw. No specific tools...!
I don't have any and I build some so... (I am hair dresser...no electrician or anything like that...I just read and copying! !!)

Bonjour
This is a nice hair style!!! (Not really a hair cut!)
I would not be able to do this!
It is artistic hair style...i am not good at this...!
But give me scissors and a razor and would do everything you want...but these days the clipper is everywhere...so to go faster i use one since 7 years now...shame on me (but people ask for it now...so!)
Have a great day★

I ordered myself 8x vero 18 5000k 70 cri, 1x hlg 185-c700a, 8x pico-ezmate 12", grease, and screws. Would two 12"x4.9" heatsinks from heat sink usa suffice? Is this going to be enough light for a 2'x 4' veg?I'm also planning on getting 2 of the hydrodynamic bearing fans.

Thank you,

You really need fans with this hs! 120mm will fit on 4.9 (maybe a few mm bigger 1 maybe 2 (if you grow in summer and with 2 it will very cool and quite...4.5V and cheap 7/8 $ each!)

And it is more watt that I would use in a 2*4 vegg tent...so yes it is cool!
I plan on building a cxa 2530 x11 pannel on an hlg-185-500b in a 3.5x3.5x2.7 inch vegg box and it will be enough!

So I had screwed up a while back and not checked what shipped to me. So... now I have an extra hlg185h 42b (meant to get a 1050b and not sure they filled my order right... but anywho..). It can supply 42v and is CC at 4amp. After tons more reading on running cobs in parallel I think I am going to have to give it a shot. I was thinking 3-4 Vero 29 ran parallel. when I finally get it going I will report back. Im pretty sure thermal run away is not too crazy if you are running all the same cob. I would think different pieces would cause it more. From what I read here and other places the engineers/designers do not seem too concerned about using them this way...

I have been hanging out in the lurkosphere reading and have just caught up to the end of the thread. What a gold mine of information on DIY COB grow lights!

I have 8 Vero 29s in a 2'x4' growbox idling along at 700ma with passive cooling. I would like to increase the photons to the canopy and have a question regarding post 1430 and the use of reflectors. Does anyone know the model and source of the reflectors that AP was using? Thank you.
