All in.. Let's build a kickass grow room, yayyyy!

I've decided that after this outdoor season I'm going indoors. I know this is gonna seem strange because I'm a newbie lol, but I'd appreciate any help nonetheless. I'm hoping to journal and review from start to finish this whole thing, seed to harvest and beyond. I'm working with a space that's about 260 sq ft, with 12ft ceilings. I've measured and I know I can fit two 9x9 tents and one 4x8.

Odor is a concern, but not too much. Security is always a concern, but I've pretty much got that taken care of. Also, the ability to be away for a few days at a time and not have to worry too much, as I sometimes need to travel and my roomies are just learning.
Aside from this, great quality and quantity are of course of great desire. I'll put $20-30k into this if need be, this is for everything (seed to harvest, and some post harvest goodies would be great), but of course don't wanna be wasteful. I was saving a long time for investing into my pig farm in another state, but I'm a long way from that and I really enjoy growing lol.. .

I'm deciding on LED because of the electrical costs being high where I am. I'd like to keep them down where possible.

So to start, may I have some input on space: should I do two 9x9s and a 4x8 for veg, or just one big flowering room?

Should I go with tents or framing?

Which brand LED should I go with?

Thanks in advance for any help, I hope to order this equipment soon.

Take a look on youtube and find a grower called Limbo Holland...he puts out a lot of bud year round...state of the are grow rooms.

If that don't work...raising pigs in the Philippines would be cool to do.

a killer set up

1 seal the room
2 yes tents if u are doing photo plants ........other wise u need 2 rooms (veggie/bloom light time tables) ......auto plants do not need them
3 with the room sealed u do not need to worry about ejecting the stinky air but u do need to worry about cooling it and CO2 for power
3a u need to get a mini spilt for the room to cool the air and remove humidity (2 ton for large rooms 1 ton for a 10x10)
3b u need a Co2 gen ....this removes the need to vent the air as the plants have all the Co2 they need to grow

4 your lights i like matrix S
http://www.ledzeal.com/p44.html
that is the marker not a retailer .......they will sell u 1 or 1000 lights at a reduced cost compared to what u can pick the light up from a retail store............write to them ask for a price quote

5 u will need to design and set up a dry area
as little light as possible
temps below 80 f (thc degrades faster at 80f) above 68F
wind movement
RH at 40-60% ....50% is the golden zone
personally my dry system is set up in a 3x3x5 tent with a carbon scrubber

now are u dirt or hydro

Thanks Justugh! I like soil, I'm used to it, but this is in a big city so all that soil is gonna look suspicious lol, and then soil changes etc..
So i'm thinkin Oxygen Pots might be a good compromise- they said use a light soil and watering times would be a lot less.
I like the idea of also pumping oxygen directly to the roots- which could be done with these... but like i said i'm used to outdoor/soil.

How many 5gal ebb n flow pots would you put in? How many 3gal soils?

your city water.........u need to invest in a filter to remove the chemicals they add to the water (they do add herbicide to keep roots from growing into pipes)

understand anything using Hydro requires more money for gear and more can go wrong (ph TDS and EC)

personally i stick with soil unless u have a back up gen at where u live (if the power goes out and u are hydro u only have a few hours before the plants start to hurt) .......soil worst case u can move them infront of a window for light

u can always recycle the soil in the back yard in a compost bin ( when u finish cut the stalk and throw the soil and root ball into composter .........u can add worm casting and bat guano to get the soil ready to use in the next cycle

i personally use 7 gallon soil bags ..........the water retention in a 7 gallon bag is little more then 1 gallon of water........a 3 gallon one is little less then half a gallon .........i water every 2-4 days

You can use totes to conceal moving soil. Just dont get too big a tote. It makes a nice way to store dirt when preparing and storing. And i like 7 and 10gal growbags. Ussually start in 3 gal pots for lack of space and trasplant to 7 or 10 or 15 a week or 2 before flower.

oh ........your cover story is your growing your own hot peppers

add a plant or 2 to the flowering room .........this is how u explain any soil/feed related things to ppl that ask

the peppers will not mess with the plants (unless peppers break open near the flowering plants) ....leave 6 inches and keep the peppers trimmed closest to the plants ...if they break near veggie no biggie the oils will wear off before it gets to flowering

now if anyone asks what is going on with u instead of out right lying to them u are only telling a particular truth(easier to rem and repeat less likely to mess up and get caught in a lie)
your growing your own hot peppers because u like them and are thinking about entering into one of the chilli cooks offs that offer a cash prize ( money and something u like ppl will buy that ) ....if they ask why not just buy them in a store break out .........ghost peppers are hard to get mostly u can only get powdered form so to get fresh strong ones i need to grow my own ......and as they are not ment for this climate i have to do it indoor..i keep the room a set envo conditions so they grow correctly .....sorry can not let u in it messes up the area takes few hours for it get back to correct lvls i only go in 2 times a week

full cover story .....just maybe give them some peppers now and then enter in a contest one or 2 times local ones

if they check the info about the plant they will see u are right .......and if u do add Co2 holy shit u are going to have some killer peppers

Bhut Jolokia, White Ghost Pepper...........is the hottest pepper in the world ......india military is the only one in the world to use this for it's tear gas (so strong we will not even use it in ours) so word of advice if u are india and they warn tear gas coming run run run

for safety reason ............in case u did not know this Water is a bad idea .......to stop the burning of peppers u need MILK a base .........if eaten hold the milk in your mouth and then spit it out when gets warm only drink part of it u will get sick from the amount of milk u use if u keep swallowing .........for face exposure a bowl of milk hold your breath and dip your face in Avoid rubbing it or touching face until u wash hands off with milk to remove anything on them

That's a good idea but the soil (say roots organic for example) comes in bags/totes.. oh well, it's a legal grow and I own a shi tzu so I'm cool lol

your in a legal area

1 go and get a list of the rules and conditions that are set for your area and post them on the door to the room
2 check the number of legal plants and always grow just 1 under
3 check with the neighbors u know and make sure they are cool ..........odds are u will have at least one person around u that will cause trouble ID them as soon as u can and placate them

the rules posted on the door to the area and the number of plants 1 under is to cover u with that ass neighbor when they call the police and they come out to check the area ........u can always do a preemptive strike and invite the local cops in to see and confirm u are 100% legal

side note....some places have not set Co-op rules so u could lump your plants and someone else plants together in same area and be legal .........other places have set rules for this so double check before u do anything like

Soil it is. Thinking first grow will be autoflowering, leaning toward Northern Lights auto from Royal Queen.. . gonna go with tents since i suck at framing and short on time.
two 9x9s and an 8x4. first 9x9 will be from clones, the other auto flowering from seed.
waiting on replies from Amare led, looking into some others in the meantime.

auto flowers are my plant of choice

what are u looking in the strain
yeild amount
high type
thc/cbds levels
taste

What do I need for drip irrigation?
two of
2x 30gal res
2x submersible pump $60
Air stones
2x hose $80-
x2 Telescopic Water Wand $40
Might consider looking up hempy bucket and Lucas Formula it's just so easy and cheap, hassle free to go that route and u get great results.

Thanks, looking into it now!
What are the pros/cons? I see it's "for people who want to grow with soil with the benefits of hydro", is this accurate?

For the first run, quantity and quality.
For the second, quality and quantity :D

I think it's a real winner the autos, especially for CBD. What are some of your fav strains/breeders/seed banks?
