air layering

Can you provide pictures or examples showing the benefits that you speak of? It's hard to understand from just the description. You can root the branch while it's still connected to the plant and then how would you transplant it? I guess I'm a little too high to dealing with this right now.
im guessing you cut right below the soil ball thing, and then remove the plastic and plant. sounds logical, but inefficient.

ill stick to cloning :)

umm, have u ever tried it?? making the assumption that it is inefficient before experiencing it's effects compared to your method is extremely ignorant. And if it sounds "logical" why not try it? Your ignorance only hurts yourself. peace.

the process sounds logical, not the usage.

i dont know why i would go through all this hassle when cloning works just as well.

unless you want to clone a plant in flower with the intent to cut it off and leave it in flower...which doesnt make too much sense, and i wouldnt ever do it.

doing this in veg would make a lot more sense, but if you have to wait for the roots to root anyway, id rather not have to bag and bind all the precise cuts.

i'll stick to rockwool :)

This thread was so old I didn't bother going to back to read the first page. I remember this technique now, waste of fuckin' time. I knew whatever it was it was a waste of time and there was a reason this thread died a long time ago and nobody discusses this stupid shit. It seems to come up every 6 months or so...

sorry i have pictures to poast but i feel everyone who responded and asked for them isnt interested enough to igknoledge it. however i feel i covered most of the benafits in what i had wrote. the main one i receve is that i am aloud a set number of plants. no more. this is a way to cycle harvest without actully seperating the cutting. thats its main benafit for me and im rictoring huge plants of name chronic so screw you guys just tryin to put that out there for the real heads.i get to clone 4 foot branches in less then 2 weeks that take off like wildfire as soon as there cut away and tp for another month of vedge. try that with cloning

This method seems ideal for me - I keep 18 mothers, one per strain, which are really the next plants going into flower. I top and veg plants 2-4 months. I have 12 spots in my flower garden, when a veg plant is ready for 12/12 I take a cutting for my bubble cloner to be the mother/veg plant for the next cycle. I've been using a bubble cloner but often I have only 1 clone in a 10 spot cloner. If I can time my air layering I could have a clone rooted just before putting the mother into flower without bothering with a bubbler. And while I'm learning, if the air layering doesn't work on a plant I can take a cutting for the bubbler just before flower. Does this reasoning sound solid to you folks who air clone?

Can I air layer a branch? How thick does it have to be?

Thanks.

I could see it being usefel for a branch, but logistically a branch seems more difficult. The branch has to substantial enough to support the extra weight while it starts rooting.

I wonder if you could make it a solid bag, fill it with hydro medium, and run some kind of mini-multiple recirculating suspended hydro system, perhaps to have a kind of direct-injection system for individual colas/buds, or for faster cloning, or for, most likely, shits n giggles.

I grow CCOB, bend the stem horizontal and the branches grow up like scrog. With a vertical branch supporting itself like a small plant from a hydro pipe. The branches grow from 6" to 18", any thoughts on that size?

I'm going to try it tonight, I'd appreciate any advice. I'll have to get a pair of these.

I'm going to give this a try. I've tried some other more traditional ways and haven't had any success.

I'll see how one of my beautiful outdoor ladies takes to this.

I have a plant with growing shoots that are over a foot long and I am going to use this technique to see if I can have really large clones.

I'm attempting to air layer 3 clones off an LST Blue Widow. To me, the advantages of air layering are such:

Clone a LARGER clone, since it can still feed off the mother plant's root system while cloning.
Not having to buy a cloner, and root smaller clones that will require longer veg period once rooted.
Don't need extra space/lights for the clone room/spot.

Disadvantages: Nitrogen inhibits rooting of clones. So an air layered clone on a plant still in veg and being fed nitrogen ferts
will take longer to root. (Air layering supposedly takes up to 3 weeks. I can root in aero in 7 days)
PITA to shave branches and add rooting medium compared to straight cutting.

I have only rooted using Aeroponics in the past as that's my preferred method. We shall see how these turn out.
