Afghan - Slowly making progress

Hey guys,

My name is Dusty and I am currently a few weeks into my grow. Here is the background info:

- I bought some feminized seeds from Herbie's but decided to plant the Afghan freebie in order to work out any kinks in my grow closet design.

- I have three lights on a 18/6 schedule. The bulbs are 40 watt daylight (6500K), 2,800 lumens each (8,400 lumens total)

- Day conditions(18 hours): 75 degrees fahrenheit, 50 rh, humidifier on
- Night conditions (6 hours): 65 degrees fahrenheit, 40 rh, humidifier off

- I have been running a small fan 24/7 to keep a slight breeze on the plant

- No nutrients

- Soil pH: 6.5

- Using only jugs of distilled water

- Added an entire bag of perlite due to fine soil

The seed germinated 20 days ago. I have had great root growth from this plant.

Concerns:

- The plant was growing sideways once it broke the surface of the soil. I have added some soil around the base of the plant hoping it will grow upwards from now on.

- When I transplanted from a jiffy cup to the 5 gallon bucket, the roots were visible on the outside of the soil (hence my comment about great root growth). However, the visible vegetative growth has seemed awfully slow. Also, the leafs seem a little wilted/twisty at times. But the color looks great and the root looks healthy. I was thinking I was over watering, but the only time I can see any vegetative growth is after watering.

Any thoughts? Advice? I think it is coming along OK - not great. At least not as great as my previous grow. My last plant was 5 times the size at 3 weeks.

Thank you in advance for any constructive criticism.

Sincerely,

Dusty

Hey, Dusty. You're going to enjoy that Afghan. I would consider starting to feed her soon. Looking good so far.

Welcome to RIU.

You think nutes are necessary? My last grow I went with no nutes and this what my last plant looked like at 3 weeks..

I haven't had luck with nutes in the past. However, I have a few bottles of General Hydroponics (FloraGro, FloraMicro, and FloraBloom). Anyone ever use these? Are they still good after 2 years?

I believe im growing the same strain. I rememer in seedling she stretched hard! Then she stopped stretching for a week then all of a sudden boom! 4 nodes in 4 weeks! My problem was she didn't like heavy feedings untill flower, which i didnt catch untill late in flower, pretty much lost all fan leaves by day 48 flower. But damn she smells gooood!

I even had the exact same purple stripings on some random stems. Can i ask if your bottom fan leaves have red hairs on em?

I upped the nutes ppm and the plants enjoyed it. Added silica (dyna gro protekt ) and is working well. Im on my first grow and I thought it looked like your soil might not be drying out enough or something, as other said overwater slightly slightly imo.
