Keeping your res temps down below 65F will do more for keeping root rot away than the air stones. With that said, Yes Virginia there is a Santa Clause. Addiing a couple pumps/air stones will help keep the res water healthier, but not all by their lonesome.

I run 3 aero/NFT systems in my flower room. When the roots get so long that they start hanging in my res I just cut them off.

Only the top 1/3 of the root system is used for nutrient uptake anyway. The lower root system is for water uptake.

Think about it like this. In nature all the nutrients are in the top layer of soil. But most of the water is usually lower in the ground. So plants have evolved to send out long tap roots for water and hairy roots close to the surface.

When you cut the tap roots the plant can still get all the nutrients it needs. Water is always a non issue with hydro.

Good luck Bro!

All my roots sit in the res with only about 5 inches hanging in the air, and with air pumps no problems and the res temp has gotten as high as 74
