Aerogarden first grow (pics)

I'm gonna make my first attempt at growing with an aerogarden system, not sure which kind i'll have yet and still researching how to grow optimally. I'm going to mod the hell out of whatever system i end up getting then put it to use and keep tabs of whats going down on here, photos and all.

any beggining tips would be much appreciated.

:peace:

Take the majority of RIU's advice and make your own DIY system. You'll get more for your buck, and you'll be more satisfied with the results. But if you already have the AG lined up...i understand. You live and learn.

this whole idea came up when we picked up an aerogarden for free off kreg's list... so far so good...

everything else we either already had laying around, or somethings we bought that are uncommon in a college setting (e.x. ballast, HPS bulbs)

it's a neat little science experiment. we use the flow from the initial grow lights and mod it to trip a 300w power supply to power HPS bulbs and chug out about 24000 lumens (with 200w) instead of the aerogardens original 23w's could do. the other 100w's will power case fans powering air into the chamber, while a few spare ionic breazes we had lying around (i know, spare ionic breazes...) clear the air that exits the chamber. The chamber will be held together with pvc pipe and sealed well. as for the aerogarden itself, we filled it to the max, submerding the sponged the sprouts are in, and also adding the humidity of the aeroponic system. When it's completed (hopefully by may) it will sit in a secure place where i have a webcam wired to a wireless network reciever, where i can check the status by accessing the reciever with my laptop (im a computer science/engineering major, the reciever will be firewalled, encrypted, and P/P'd). i'm trying to keep the system, for the most part, as close to automated as possible, so this whole deal is kind of a pioneering experience for me and my colleague.

before i have any pictures or results up, i'll have data sheets uploaded containing every calculation and variable of the experiment.

makes me wonder how crazy things will be when someday college students do this legally (L.I.)

post soon

I love the webcam dude, I really want to have an email when my temp raises too high or certain flood sensors go off. Keep up with that design Bro!

I have an aero as my veg chamber, it works great, just be sure to use your own nute blend, not the aero's pills. Also make sure you have a good pump, the first few batches of those have a bunk pump that will die eventually. If pump is silent, you good. If it rumbles or rattles, call Aero up and say you bought at Bed bath beyond, they will ship you new pump. The Aero only sux because you can only fit 3-4 in her, but otherwise its great.
I am rocking an ozenator in the closet and have no worreis, have about 4 girls blooming at all times.

Sounds like you got a good deal on that AG and a good plan. I'm pretty happy with my AG results, and if you invested in HPS you'll do very well during flowering.

Yea they look small for 3 weeks....what have you been doing or not doing?
Did they take a long time to sprout? Is that time included in the 3 weeks?

Hello all. I'm 4 days into my new AG. Got 3 pods and all have started to sprout. I think like everyone else I'm worrying about the water temps. I haven't measured, but I'ts very warm to the touch. I had a thought. I have some water purification tablets I use for camping. 1 tablet treats 1 gallon and kills all harmful bacteria and viruses to make water safe to drink. What do you think would happen if I dropped a tab into the AG to control bacteral growth? Is this stupid idea?

They did indeed take a long time to sprout and its included in the time, so they prolly been sproted for almost 2 weeks, sorry I should have been more specific, Ive been using the Aero Nutes. I see a biog diff every morning, I thought they were growing pretty fast.

what exactly is a b1 foiler? and where can i get it. That is also the lowest setting it has.
a b1 (b1 is vitamin B1) foiler is a very very helpful nute in the early veg stages, used for rapid root production and a good boost of nitrogen. its usually sold as a concentrate that you mix 2.5 ml per 4 liters then put into a spray bottle and feed your plants via spray bottle rather then through the water in your sytem.

i would do 24\0 for a week and see how they turn out... BRING THE LIGHTS LOWER!! you are losing to much light having it be that open. the only prob i can see is the light. the color seems to look fine, you just should have much more growth by this time and its apparently due to the light

I would just suggest aging your water, over the course of 2-3 days all the bad shit in the water will be dead and wont effect your plant, i would even suggest using aged tap over distilled, what alot of people dont know is that pot likes the random nutes in tap water, what they dont like is the chlorine in the water, and thats gone within the 1st 36 hours of aging, as for temps if u age the water in a nrmal 70-72 degree room for 2-3 days the temp will be perfect, so as long as ur house isnt burning hot or freezeing cold u shouldnt have a problem. im not sure how the plants will like the the tablets. i wouldnt suggest it.

Hey Every time Ive used my aerogarden the rez temps would be kinda high because of all the cfl's i use....I've never had a problem.....and after it grows enough to block outthe light from hitting the grow surface the water stays pretty cool because the leaves catch the light and heat more...
