Absolute N00b Grower, Advice Needed

Hi All,

Firstly I'll start by saying great informative forum, kudos the creator! This is my first post and I will soon be embarking on my first ever indoor grow. I reside in the UK and have very limited space to play with at the moment. I was wondering if you pro's could let me know if the starter kit I am looking at is worth the money/all I need to begin with.

As I am a total n00b I was thinking of growing 1 plant to begin with. This way I can care for one and only one plant and get to grips with everything.

This is the grow starter kit I am looking at -; http://www.kitbagshop.org/grow-kits/kit-5 (I will be buying 60x60x140 tent not the 120x120x200) Would I need something smaller than 600w as my tent will be smaller?

I have already purchased some BioDiesel auto seeds(Herbies Headshop), the autos seem very popular with the newbies.

I am learning more and more each day from this forum and elsewhere, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Autos are popular with noobs because only clowns run autos. I sugguest ordering different seeds. Specially if your only going to grow one plant. Also one plant under a 600 hps is a pretty big lady. Do you have any idea what size pot your looking to grow in? Are you going to use dirt or hydro? Fresh air or co2?

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your time. Would you care to explain why only clowns run autos? Would you not reccomend autos for a first time grower (of any plant for that matter) ? Like I said I don't have much room to play with at the moment so she can't be too big, I'm looking at planting in a 3gl/5gl pot, I'll be looking at using hydro rather than soil and no Co2 for now.

Do you have any comments about the grow kit I posted?

I look forward to your reply.

Hey fat bags, I would do three or four plants in that space because if you encounter any problems with one or two of the plants you don't lose your entire crop, the tent you have is quite small so you will encounter humidity and heat problems if you don't have the right equipment in place.

Can you give a list of equipment you have or will be using when you start so we can give you a better idea? Also I have never used autos before and believe you can get way better results (yield) and experience from growing a normal strain. I would go feminized for the first few crops and possibly keep a mother plant going somewhere else to always have a fresh supply of females.

Good luck with your endeavor and keep checking this site for help/hints!

There are a few reasons I don't like autos. The main reason is their advantage. They flower automatically, meaning you can not prevent them from flowering by extending the day length. It also means you will never be able to clone autos, because they will just start flowering. It only makes sense to clone plants in veg.

Another reason I don't like autos is because it requires a longer period of light, which takes more electricity. Photoperiod plants only require 12 hours of light a day, and you can technically start flowering from seed.

Third, which I only have anecdotal evidence of, they don't have as high quality of resin as photoperiod strains. I've never actually grown autos, and learned about them when low ryder and masterlow were the only viable auto strains available, and I did hear they were crap to smoke. That was a long time ago, so I'm sure things have changed.

There are a lot of experienced growers who really like growing autos, so I wouldn't throw away the seeds you got. Just go ask them what you should do with them in the auto section and they'll probably tell you autos are the best thing since sliced bread.

Since your new and somewhat have given an example of what your looking at for space , id suggest you run a 400 watt to start. Small clip fan, 4inch exhaust and some co2 green pads in a 2x2ft or 2.5x2.5ft tent. Get a 7-10 gallon pot, Grab a small bag of sunshine advanved #4 and general organics go box. No ph testing or adjustment needed. Follow as directed, adjust to heavy dosage in flowering through weeks 4-6. This is a great set up for beginning.

Go with dna genetics through theattitudeseedbank.uk ive had orders delivered with no seeds and had them resend them, and always get them plus extras if they mess up.

Like stated above .. Autos auto flower. This isn't what you want if your trying to run one plant under a 600. You need to veg awhile and bush it out so it will take up the whole 4x4
Space that a 600 lights up.

3 or 5 gal pots with 1 plant isn't going to cut it dude. Research a little more. That kit is ok. Better to put your own setup together. Start buying stuff and you will see what you need as you go along

A 600 is a lot of light for a first timer, its a great light but a lot to learn with, as a hypothetical if you learn quick and don't have many problems you will find a 600 is too small for a 5x5 and wish you had both the 1000

Personally i think an auto is not wat your looking for becouse it flowers when its genetics tell it to mite get to tall or watever havent had much experience growing autos but i have seen the product outdoor and in my opinion its good for blowing bho lol but that being said i guess some people do well with them....
Reason noobs pick them i think is it takes one of the steps out of growing so they think its easy but i bet someone who can do them well will prolly say they more advanced level type of plants to grow.... personally i like more control over everything so i never had the itch to try any

I like autoflowers... As a first grow. At the same time in the same spot be vegging your real plants and then when your autps done just flip to 12/12 and all your vegg'd beasts are in motion (but after first bit no more autos
