abandoned oil on the blade turns to shatter, vac purged oil is taffy. why?

just wondering why the oil I forgot about on my blade is pure shatter now, whereas the oil that went into the chamber a little bit is a taffy, sticky oil still??

Because you didn't allow the oil to reach a warm temperature to break down the consistency. There are temp points in which the hash texture changes. The oil stayed within the shatter temp range... Still needs to be purged.

hmm interesting. ill try a hoot of the shatter/abandoned/unpurged stuff and see if it crackles.

not sure if im getting used to it or what, but after 2 or 3 weeks this stuff seems to have lost its taste too, is that normal? I dont put it in a container or anything and it rearly gets used. I slice a tiny chunk off every 12 hours and thats it.

Because it wasn't as dry as what was on the blade oxidizing and the moisture content in the taffy isn't yet shattering.

Time and temperature, in concert with film thickness. The stuff on your blade is most likely thinner and purges faster.

actually theyre about the same thickness... there wasnt a thin film on the razor. it was a .5 g blob I forgot about... maybe a chunk 5x5mm big. about the same thickness as the stuff I throw into the chamber (7 grams and 3 or 4mm thick puddle)

A .5 gm blob on a blade would still have significantly more surface area exposed than a 7 gm chunk. Especially if it started as shavings, rather than a hard resin coating.

What is your theory?

anyone just turn the heat source off and leave your sappy taffy in for a few days see what happens?

ive also heard of people using flash heat like heat guns. to turn taffy into a shatter.. but what are they doing ? just burning off terpenes that make it that way or?
