A51 W90s grow

Not to be too mesmerized by sparkly things... but I gotta say seeing 8 of those connected is the most impressive pic I've seen yet of the W90's. Seeing just one at a time does not tell the story well. Looking forward to following this grow!

There are so many options with grow mediums. I guess I'm into mutts, hybrids, and mashing technologies. I'm experimenting with a soil/coco mix -- coco/perlite on the bottom, soil/humus/worm castings mix on top. I'm sure its been done before, but it's new to me.

That looks fantastic Santa. 8 units tied together looks legit. $1400 for 760w is just about the best buy out there. A51 is definitely closing the gap in cost savings between DIY & their commercial product.
indeed, 8 units tied together looks legit! btw, it was 10 units and the US $ is pretty strong compared to the canadian $ right now so I ended up paying a LOT of money for those, I really hope they deliver!

Man, Santa Claus is coming to town! Looks great! Always awesome to see people combining brand new technology with refined organic techniques. Glad to see you around Santa, I'll be tuned in for this grow. Good luck!

Sincerely,
IlovePlants
Thanks Iloveplants, enjoy the show.
Luck? What the fuck do you need that for? You have more than enough skill to compensate for anything that luck could provide. ;)
I would be unlucky if the light dont deliver... I am confident enough in my growing skills that if I dont see results on the first round likely will not be happy.
Finally gonna see these bad boys in action :p
Yeppers I am thinking the same thing!

Ok, the room is ready for flip, I will flip tomorrow, Nov 4th will be day 1 and most if not all plants should be ready in 2015! I have to say I dont know much about light but it does not look all that bright for 900watts in the room, I think the plants will have no problem filling in the space, the 3 plants in the right corner are my blueberry og super frosty cross, not great on the yields but still decent. 1 plant is OhGod, 1 CBD GOD and a Blue City Diesel (the biggest right now) .5gpw on this run is what I am hoping for out of 6 plants, they could be veg a bit longer but I am really looking forward to test the lights and I am not sure about penetration either so I dont want to grow big trees on round 1. So far I still think the good old AF600s are the best! One thing I really like is they seem to run very cool not sure if its because there is no lense to trap in the heat.

Santa,
Excited to watch this grow. I'm waiting on 6 W90s myself. They look good, but I agree with your statement about not looking very bright. 900W from these cobs seems like it'd be blinding. Let's hope these lights live up to the hype. Hoping you have great results and looking forward to watching this grow. Hopefully my lights are shipped sometime in the near future....

hey churtmunk! thanks, I am actually tempted to fill the room with plants that are already 1-3 weeks into flower so we see how the lights perform for bud development right away... which lights did you buy? 6 x 3000k?

I know I dont find a 600w hps all that bright either, might have to do with the 3000Ks.... I feel like this setup will require to have plants that are fully grown and ready for flip and not as good for 12/12 from seed but time will tell.

Anyway, the lights are off now and so tomorrow is day 1... I have 6 plants that will ultimately become a 3x4 (12sq/ft) canopy, I dont know that I have ever grown much more than 1 oz per sq/ft, a 1000hps would easily cover a 4x4, I am not sure maybe I can have the lights a little farther and get a larger footprint. Some people commented on the distance between lights and canopy, I like to keep the lights far away and let the plants grow to the lights, With other LEDs I try not to get closer than 18'' - 24'' from the bulk of the canopy and I dont know why these lights should be any closer.

The plants are not as healthy nor as big as I would like them to be... If I am not happy with the way they look 1 week from now, I might start over with other strains that are being vegged right now.

I went with 4000ks. A51 recommended 6-8 for a 4x4 footprint and to stick with all 4000ks. I was all set to order 8 and was going to go 2x3000K, 4x4000K, and 2x5000K but decided to just start with the 6 4s. I wanted to pop on eight but it's tough with a new product and not having seen any grows with them. Going to DIY with some 3590s. Damn DIYers around here are pretty convincing and I like to tinker sooo down the rabbit hole I go... I'm stoked to see some them on some flowers. How long did you wait on your lights?

it took a little over a week of back and forth email before Jeff sent me the paypal link and then 3 weeks or less. I wish I had ordered more 4000K and less 3000K but I wont know for sure until after a few cycles.

::::::bud shots in this post are not w90s grown, they were grown mostly under a51 AF600s and other lights::::::

littlejacob, I can guarantee you the lights were not too far. I have actually backed them up a bit, its been a day or 2 and plants are already responding well. When I first placed the plants under the A51s the plants started looking like they were getting too much light.

I think the canopy will fill in nicely, a couple things worth noting is that the plants were not the healthiest plants to start with, I think most of them are in a new mix of soil and I might have over done it with amendments. Needless to say they all look a bit healthier since I have backed up the lights a bit but it might not have anything to do with it. One of the pots felt like some of the compost was still heating up...

Anyway I am not too worried I am just gonna do ma thing, if things are not working out I will move all plants to the other budding room and start over.

Notice the burned tips, not something I see very often, thats why I think I overdid with amendments... also you can see one employee working as well, I am starting to find some dead ladybugs that seems to have died in the lights (maybe?!) but the lamps still look at good as new, I was worried because ladybugs like to fly into the lights and the A51s w90s dont have lens nor glasses to protect them... anyway all is good so far!

night shot of the girls on day 2,3 or 4... will get the timer hooked up tomorrow so far just turning the lights on and off manually.

Long story short, 3 of those CBCs are under the w90s.

Long story:
CBC, Canadian Blue Cannabis I called my strain hehe... Its ((chemo x respect) X Ancient OG)) Respect was my keeper from reggae seeds years ago, I eventually got bored with it but every time I trimmed the girl I just couldnt get rid of her, so resinous!! such a unique smell too, so anyway, respect is no longer now (grew it for the last time outdoor) but at least I did have seeds at the time, Chemo X Respect AKA Crisco. Anyway, the Ancient OG female I pollinated didnt look that special but it was also fairly neglected. One day I decided to pop some beans and the winner was this cut, my one go to strain at this point.

unfortunately, the plant pictured as well as 3 others are not quite done but due to spidermites issue, Im gonna chop em tonight and tomorrow, I am so looking forward to grow this strain again, one of the most resinous strain I have ever grown, and the best part is, smells just like blueberries in the jar.

Cheers!

Mine will be here Monday :). What is the best and most sturdy way to secure the lights in a tent to where they can still be raised and lowered?

That bud looks damn pretty, I look forward to seeing these lights in action, my first run might night nurse by bc bud depot, I'm open to suggestions however, also have shiatsu kush and some others I'll list if anybody wants to help me decide

the lights come with ratchets lights hangers, its a bit trickier for me to raise the lights because I have to crank so many ratchets but if you have only 1 or 2 units its pretty easy. I think I will split my lights into 2 x 4 units clusters and 1 x 2 units clusters.

I am a bit rusty at taking pics, couldnt get a real nice close up of the resin heads... I wanted to show buds with spider-mites damage and what they look like after I trim and rinse them under water before hanging to dry... I prefer to smoke residual spider-mites crap than pesticides... predatory mites are coming my way so hopefully I can get rid of them for good.

A few pics of the other garden, things coming along fine except for the spider-mites issue, I still see predatory mites kicking around and lots of ladybugs, I will never use ladybugs by themselves for spider-mites again.

Lady bugs won't wipe out all the insects they will gorge until the white fly's numbers drop then they will live in a symbiotic relationship with them never completely killing them off

I don't really get the area 51 design one cob per unit driven hard. Just saying one cob for 175 each verses go green leds, less draw, higher efficiency time will tell

I always have loved your grows if it wasn't for you I would've never known 12\12 from seed was possible.

i would suggest u move the light closer to the top of the canopy
keep a tape measure nearby so u can check distance often. i just moved mine 16" away a few days ago.. but mine are in flower.. i wouldn't be over 20" again after going through an almost complete run and experimenting with things.

Mine will be here Monday :). What is the best and most sturdy way to secure the lights in a tent to where they can still be raised and lowered?

rope ratchet hangers <--link attached to the crossbars on tent ceiling... i put carabiners on the ends of mine. these particular hangers make it very easy to raise and lower the light

For the first run under the w90s, I prefer to stay on the safe side and keep them at a safe distance, I have always had good luck keeping my lights farther than the average grower. I am also trying to get the 2 indicas to stretch a bit, depending how plants develop into flower I will probably bring the lights a little closer.

Today is day 8 of flowering, I had to take one plant out because it was getting a little over crowded and she was a little behind. I am hoping they keep stretching for another week and we will have a pretty full canopy. I am pretty stocked with the lights so far... aa.jpgaaa.jpg aaa.jpgaaaa.jpg

Looking good Santa. They're seeming to really like the light! I have 6 arriving tomorrow... errr today.. can't come quick enough though

Hey everyone, I believe its day 12 of flowering, now I kinda hope they stop stretching lol... pretty amazing growth if you look back my post on Nov. 2nd, 2 days before I flipped to 12/12, the plants were small and not all that healthy and you look at them 2 weeks later... wow!

I think Im sold with the lights, my concern was that part of the grow cycle, I was worried the 3000k would not veg for shit. If I was to order again I would probably do half and half 3000k and 4000k, makes for a really versatile setup that will be good enough for vegging and as we are about to see will kick ass in flower ... I hope!!!

I have lots of plants in my veg tent that wont grow out of their pre-flower stage and go back to veg, I wonder if there is not enough lights in the tent...

Also, I had to scratch a few plants, I will never grow my ZionHaze again, or any cross I made using the Revolution male. Just a heads up guys, if you are gonna make seeds, MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO RUDERALIS WHATSOEVER IN THE LINEAGE!!! Unfortunately, a lot of breeders are introducing ruderalis in their breeding program to up the CBD (I believe Reggae seeds did that, though the plants I grew from them were amazing I can not seem to find a clonable plant in the offspring)

Anyway, rants over, as you can see in the pics I think by the end of it I will have a canopy that should be pretty close to 4x4 ...will be for sure over 12 sq.ft. Will I reach the pound that I am hoping for!!!? lol...stay tuned....1.jpg2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg 5.jpg 6.jpg

DAY 15 flowering

After taking the picture, I lowered the one unit on the left a bit but the lights were hung super quickly because the lights were about to go off. It might have to be this way for a few days, I wish I wasnt so busy, there are so many things I could do in this garden to improve the yield. I think I should have 6 lights over the plants and 4 surrounding the canopy. If I had to start over I would probably keep the lights further away right from the start. I keep having to raise the lights every few days but I think I am good for the rest of the grow now.
01.jpg
I moved the 2 indicas on the left side and raised them up a bit. The 2 plants at the bottom on the right are least healthy, The Blue City Diesel (uper left) have the largest buds so far but this plant was the most ready for flowering, if only the room was filled with 6 plants like that....
02.jpg
My house strain that doesnt really have a name yet has the potential to yield well when the plant is healthy from the start, will it catch up with the BCD this time ...?...?
03.jpg 04.jpg
I like this picture, those BCD pistils will likely be pollinated by my Crisco X Ancient OG male. Hoping to find a blueberry og diesel pheno with some CBDs in it
