A test in progress.... Miracle Grow soil vs. Fox Farms soil. Is MG really that bad?

Newbies... WARNING!!! Don't mix MG nutes with fox farm soil. For best results use fox farm nutes with the fox farm soil. There are so many things MG has formula and soil wise its very high in user error. I don't recommend using MG indoors. I also don't recommend MG for growing cannabis since there are better soils, formula's and nutes designed to grow what you're intending on growing. You can grow it with MG, but its so easy anymore to order better stuff online or at your local grow shop and you'll get better results IMO. :|

Did you bother to read the entire thread? It clearly shows MG soil to be superior to the more expensive FF soil through the culmination of the test.
As for ordering soil on line, good luck getting a reasonable price on a 50 lb bag through UPS (that equals
$ 185.00 UPS ground to my door plus the cost of the soil). Where is the savings there? :wall:

I'm growing in mg moisture control and using fox farm solubles and 2 different foxfarm bushdoctor nutes, no problems what so ever. Maybe you should read through the whole thread again Shangeet. Fox farm nutes work just fine with mg soil

I like Moisture controll soil for outdoors, An there organic soil for indoors.
Just had to say... I had "shake it" by metro station playing as I read your post... and the song goes perfectly with your dancing avatar! It just made my day, so thanks!

It's good to find some people who don't rag on miracle gro. I've used it all along, but I just bought some happy frog and some other nutes from a hydro store for next time. We'll see what happens.

The only thing I am actually surprised by in this thread is the number of people that like the moisture control MG. I absolutely hate that stuff. If I get MG I hope and pray they have anything but that one.

i don't care for it either. i made a full circle, started with the mg potting soil mix, went on to the fox farms products, then to the organic mg, next was the moisture control. just bought 4 big bags of the mg potting soil mix for next springs veggie garden seedlings and a few papaya clones i have.

It's crazy how the world works. I did THE EXACT SAME THING!!! mg potting soil, FFOF, organic mg, then back to mg potting soil. And, I am growing Nirvana papaya right now (about week 4 of flowering).

Going supersoil on my next grow. If you tell me THAT...this next L's for you buddy!!! :joint::joint::joint::joint::joint::joint::joint:

p.s., unlike the other guy, I actually read through the entire thread, and found a lot of great info on here about using MG and whatnot. So thanks... :)
I read a great deal, but not all. I have one plant in mg and rest in ff. Actually the mg plant is doing the best, and I used it because I didnt have any money nor did I research what to use. I later decided to get more plants and got ff (based on recommendations) and nutes. Still the mg plant is by far the healthiest looking.

Hey guys, just stoppin in to say I'm back, after a little absence. Yeah, I shut everything down, and sadly, you didn't get to see the final results, but, I can guarantee there wasn't going to be any real surprises. It was time to start feeding them, and IMO, that pretty much eliminates any differences between the two soils. After all, after equalizing the drainage, they were damn near the same thing. The main difference, is the initial amount of nutrients, that come with the soil, when new. After those have been depleted, I'm betting, they're VERY similar to each other, especially performance-wise.

I'm going to get started again, and actually, I started germing some seeds yesterday. I haven't planned much beyond that, but am considering doing a test, using MG nutes, vs. my Dynagro nutes. I'd be using Calmag with both, as well. Hmm.... Anyone interested?

Sorry to hear you had to tear down I know how feels. This is a good thread.
Just too add a little, My first grow was all Organic MG and now is FFOF and 2 of my five plants are doing the same thing from my MG grow. All 5 strains are diff. and are getting all the same love. And when you say they were about the same makes sense somewhat. I think strain has a lot too do with it. My SAGE and MKultra are on older leaves are looking funky(few leaf undercurls) Just like 3 out of 5 on my plants on first grow(3 diff strains), but rest look healthy.
And in my FFOF I discovered fungus gnats but i also had them in Mg and like it was discussed before in this thread it just a thing that happens and mother nature is aggressive. And fungus gnats are really easy to eliminate.
Looking foward to new test.

Okey dokey, I'll come up with something. I'm still not sure what, but there's lots of things I'd like to test. I wanna do a side-by-side with my flouros, 5000K vs. 6500K. For some reason, I seen to remember my plants growing a tad faster,(and slightly fuller) under the 5000K. Yeah, I could be imagining things, but it'd still be cool to know for sure.

I'll post a link here, so it's easy for people to find, but it'll be it's own seperate thread. Most people don't like to read through all these pages, and to start another test in this thread, would be a bit excessive, and end up being too difficult to find where one test ends, and another begins. The thing that kinda sucks, is that I don't have time to order new seeds. The strain I'm using, is a strain called Velvet Ice(Velvet Kush + Ice), which was pollinated by a bagseed father. It was Indica-dominant, so I hope they finish fast. The Velvet Ice was an 8-9 week strain, and really quick. Potent stuff, too, so I hope it's still decent, now that it's been cross-bred. I'll be ordering seeds soon, and going perpetual with it. That way, I'll be able to start a test every 4-5 weeks, if I get ambitious.

i would love to follow it. i just switched to dyna gro due to their having complete nutrients. i would like to even see maybe 1 of the dyna gro not getting the cal mag, cause they supposedly have everything the plant needs in the one bottle...

I could do probably do that, but, the only thing, is that I'd have to jump in and save it, should problems arise. Might as well do one with straight MG nutes too, huh? That might have to be the next test, due to the fact that I'm working now, and won't be having many plants. Maybe I'll try Dynagro and Calmag, vs. MG nutes and epsom salts. Good stuff vs. cheap stuff? Idk, still thinking.....
