A Fool and a Hermie Seed

day 65 already, which should be around 45 days of flower
i'll admit to being well pleased with the situation, no male parts showing
and the yield may be quite nice, it's exploded in the last week
may be far faster finisher than i guessed, 9 weeks is my guess now
but as usual, al the ripening signs will tell the right time for the finish

7 1/2 weeks of flower, weight is packing on and pistils turning
but the biggest plus is no trace of hermie blossoms, that's the hold your breath part
little smell unless touched, kind of a weedy-spicey-onion odor
hoping i can get something like older mexican weeds, but likely that's just hope
pic in grow chamber, the top cola weight has bent the stem some, so pulling out is tricky

8 1/2 weeks and chop isn't too far off, or so i think
bud filling in nice, and they have some weight, maybe not quite a full zip
but my needs are modest, otherwise i'd be firing up a scrog chamber
most identifiable part of the odor has turned out to be onion, i swear cannabis can have any odor
1 more week is the guess, and with 1 week i feel more comfortable on the hermie judgement
not a trace, pure feminine, that puts the hermie offspring at 1 out of three
not bad considering they were free seeds

i judged it was the time, cut down had arrived at 9 1/2 weeks of flower
wasn't much amber, just a few, some cloudy, and quite a few clear
plant looked ripe though, so i took my chances
first, no trace of hermie, not a seed showing, 2 out of 3 seeds clean of mixed up sex
next the weight, not as good, it looked reasonably heavy, but sativa, sativa, it may not weigh as much as indica
roughly 60g wet, should be around 15g dry, it had been unwatered for a week
finally, a tiny side bud vaped up, and sativa was there in force, plenty of up, no paranoid
the final bud pic, such as my poor quality camera will give, a small smoke report later after the cure

time for a mini smoke report, just the basics

yield - fair, 20g or so of trimmed bud, 78w cfl micro grow, i don't need pounds
odor - cured(2 weeks) to a fairly nice but light spice smell - 7 out of 10
flavor - flavor very interesting, there was none, and i mean none, just a 'body', very strange, 6 out of 10 because i don't mind no flavor, just bad flavor
effect - effect was quite good for me, a very non-anxious up, more indica that i initially thought, 50/50 sativa/indica type of feel, 7 out of 10 because it filled my needs for low anxiety

the quick overview of 3 hermie seed grows

#1 - beautiful female very close to parent, no hermie trait, excellent taste and effect, kind of small yield
#2 - genetic nightmare, smelled bad and tasted worse, horrible effect and a hermie to boot
#3 - good female, no hermie trait, good anti anxiety medicine, wished i had revegged, them's the breaks

2 out of 3, not bad for 'trash' seeds

tell you the truth, no - foulest shit i've ever had, and i've had some very bad stuff over the years
tossed into a fire, couldn't bear the sight of it
except for 1 small bud, which is still in its tray for a good year or so, maybe good for one last experiment

after a growing pause, had other shit going on, time for another run of this seed line
a quick summary, seeds from a hermie brainwreck, was quite nice except for the hermie trait
3 runs so far, #1 primo but smaller yields, no hermie trait
#2, had hermie trait and was foul beyond belief on every trait
#3, no hermie, good but not in same class as #1

at 27 days or so, cool grow temps which have keep it a little slow and compact, but time to flower

give the hobby it's due, it's not boring
so prepared for a hermie, hoping for a pure female
what do i get? a seeming male - arrgh!
i suppose i thought a male wasn't impossible from selfed seeds, just thought it was a long shot
4 weeks of 12/12, and it's just been balls, which i trimmed so carefully waiting for pistils that never showed

time to get back in the growing saddle
the results far: 1 great female(low yield), 1 good female(fair yield), 1 hideous hermie female that made me sick(literally), and a male
i still am confused in seeing a male from a selfed female, but yesterday's news
a new grow of the same seed stock, 1st day of flower very indica looking, looking healthy

a very compact plant, 7 nodes and 7 inches
plenty of green in the grow chamber, sex signs still too close to call

14 day of flower, pistils are popping
big, fat, and healthy
getting very sativa up high

3 weeks of flower, and flower it is, definitely female no signs of the dreaded roosters, yet, but can never let the guard down strangely short pistils, and some cfl burns, got a little sloppy there

4 weeks, and it's all pistils, breathing just a little easier
i've had some pretty low odor plants, PPP was low, NL was low
but this is complete zero, no odor whatsoever in the grow chamber, unless rubbed

5 weeks of flower, time to collect a few thoughts
best part is all pistils, no sign of the other 'things'
the bulking up part is a little disappointing, that's a little slow
pretty sativa looking up high, maybe some cause/effect there

6 weeks and the plot has unfolded
no roosters yet, that in itself is a coup
a sharp flower/perfume scent when rubbed
the barest amount of odor in the grow chamber, i wouldn't be able detect it by smell, and i know it's there
and the latest bonus, the upper fan leaves are showing trichomes
down the leaf center along the spine, maybe enough for a try at a little bubble hash

at 7 weeks, time again to assess the grow
very dark green leaves for 7 weeks of flower
almost a black/green, new experience for me
haven't fed it excessively, just doesn't need that much feed?
still with the very sweet but very light odor, at least if not touched

8 weeks of flower, different kind of plant from my other grows
fan leaves are just as dark at 8 weeks as they were at 6 weeks
suspecting more sativa, could be a good thing
