Hey guys, so everything I have learnt about growing has strictly came from this website:hug: with a little added help from my hydroponics store too of course. I used to be on here like a mad man a couple years back:eyesmoke:. Be patient with me if I'm forgetting something or making a dumb decision aha its been awhile. Love this website! Will post pics tomorrow or Monday. Thanx for popping in guys! Suggestions always welcome! Cheers

THE SETUP
I am in a 2 bedroom apartment with my girlfriend and my buddy. There is a big main storage closet amongst the bathroom and bedrooms that we are using as our veg room. I forget the exact measurements but its something around 5'x5'. We currently have our 1000watt up. We have to leave the door open or it gets too hot obviously. The light is set to 18/6. For flower I purchased a 2'x3'x5' tent, a 4" 190cfm fan/filter combo, and a 400watt digital ballast with 6" cooltube reflector. Temps are high though at 86.

I purchased a 600 watt for the flower tent, should be here monday along with 4x T5 fixture, humidifier and an air purifier. I was originally going to use the 400 watt and figured 86 was doable. But now my thinking is use the 400 for the mothers and now i just have to run cold air intake from my window for the 600 watt. Before it might have been too cold in trying to cool the tent with the 400 watt. If I cant control things i'll just throw the 400 in again.

THE PLANTS
I have 2 mothers in 18gal rubbermaid tubs with Promix HP. One is a bagseed Kush, should be good:weed:. The other is a feminized Cheese strain from Greenhouse Seeds:sleep:. There are 7 Kush clones and 1 Cheese clone also under the 1000watt, they are doing great (a little small becuz they are just extra branches from the bottom of the mothers that I wanted gone so I could LST the mothers. The clones are a week or 2 old. I plan to flower the clones on Monday when my 600 watt arrives. They will be going in on a water week. I water one week then flower the next. Thats what I usually do anyways. I plan to experiment a little of course :). We plan to grab a farm or acreage next year, was too short notice for even a house for us this year so this is what we will have to stick with for the next year. We thought about getting a bigger tent and sticking the 1000watt in the cooltube for flowering our mothers but, thats about as far as we wanna go right now.

My current ventilation is filter/fan/cooltube exhausting out. This keeps my tent at 30 with my 400watt with no cold intake, it is just free flow with one of the flaps open.

I have two options to keep my 600 watt cooler once i switch from the 400 on monday:

1) I can simply run a 4" duct fan from my window for intake that only runs when my light is on

2) I can run my filter/fan exhaust seperately and have a 4" duct fan from my window running through my cooltube then connected to my exhaust outside of the tent so all hot air comes out of one port at the end and also only have it running when my light is on. This option would run the light as if there was no heat at all probably. Although could I risk popping the bulb with the extremes in temperatures colliding?

It will be winter soon. What do u think?

 I think you would be better off getting a larger tent for flower. A 4 x 4 on ebay is like $98. But if you do flower in your current set up move the fan and filter outside the tent to pull air out from up higher, because hotter ambient air accumulates at the top of a tent. Right now you are set up to exhaust the cooler air in the tent by pulling from down by the canopy which is why temps are a little high right? The heat issue should be solved without needing cold air intake.

I understand the fan/filter should be higher normally yes because then it would be extracting warmer air. I have it lower for a couple reasons.. one being its pretty impossible to get it any higher and have it still connected exhausting through my cooltube. Two, because I figured at plants height it will extract more smell and help bring cooler air to the light. I'm doing what I can, however I don't think putting the filter outside of the tent would be beneficial (which i'm sure you didn't mean) lol. But yes, I planned to put it up as high as I could if i had it hooked up seperately and not have it run through the cooltube. Then I would have cold intake from my window running straight through just the cooltube and back exhausting at the window connected with the fan/filter exhaust port outside the tent exhausting hot air all out of one port at the top of the open window. Intake at the bottom of window of course.

I purchased this size tent because my girlfriend would allow it in our bedroom. My roommate/buddy in the spare room says he is willing to put a 5x5 tent in his room. All we would need is that new 5x5 tent for $150.00 I found and we could use his 1000watt, my cooltube and fan/filter. We figured we would do this for the next grow with our mothers. I just didnt want to encourage my buddy to start up some huge grow when I'm not looking, hes a lot younger and doesnt know a whole lot about growing so I was trying to keep things small, in my room, under my control.

Your other thread said help lol, 600 watts should be more than enough for a 3x2. 400 too.
Oh absolutely, just curious if I'm going to be able to keep the temps under control. My humidifier should help too. Monday when my light comes I should be able to set everything up and test different options to see where my temps stand at whats going to be the best design.

You mean dehumidifier right?keep r/h below 50%...

Well it would make your tent a lot bigger getting that box out of there. :arrow:Running the air through the tube out to the fan and yes the filter will be beneficial. Frees up canopy area for that 600 to shine on and lowers the temps. It's the only way with the space and equipment to remove the stuff wasting prime real estate.:leaf:

With the tent being so small it is hard to get everything up high. I will see what I can do, thanx for the replies. I have it setup filter/fan/cooltube because i was afraid of my bulb popping so I didnt want the fan to chew up the glass.

Imagine what would happen if the fan were to come apart :???: oil and pieces of metal or plastic beating the hell out of your light and cooltube

Besides, it's more efficient to pull air rather than try to push it :bigjoint:

haha this of course i thought of as well. This was the easiest way to set it up though or id have to jimmyrig a heavy exhaust fan up high somehow.

idk it seems like alot jammed in that little space..... simple! less is more ...... the size of your duct is a bit of an over kill dont you think?? i mean how many plants were you planning on fitting in it?

You should have gone with a taller flower tent. The one I use is almost 6 feet, which is just enough room to mount a giant ass fan and carbon filter like yours, plus light. Also, you should invest in smaller ducting inside the tent, just step it down to like 4 or 6 inches. The air will move faster and be louder, but will cool your bulb better. If you can, try to mount the filter and fan flush with the top of the tent, all the way to the back. That should free up enough room to mount your light in the middle without sacrificing much lateral space. And if you're worried about your fan pulling in broken bulb bits, just put a dryer sheet / coffee filter or two in between where the ducting connects to the fan. As long as you make sure it's fit properly it won't hinder flow or get sucked in.

You're smart for wanting to keep control over the grow. An inexperienced grower can ruin the whole crop in one simple mistake. I know I made my fair share of mistakes when I started out.
