50 Watts of LED?

The reason I love LED, is you could take it 1 step further and have your LED lights setup on the perfect spectrum per age, switch the colors and lights ect. You could literally grow the perfect plant with LED, it's possible, whereas with every other light its impossible! Fathom that!

The reason people say LED lights don't work is because they had the wrong spectrum LED lights. If you're off by 20 you're in a completely different wavelength giving your plant barely any food.

Utter bullshit, i'm afraid. Show me a grow where a 30 watt led can produce 450 grams of bud. Or even a grow with one of those 300 watt lights, that produces 1000 grams of bud.

This is the standard set by HID lighting. 1 gram of bud per watt of lighting. If you want to make a claim that a 300 watt panel can produce as well as a 1000 watt HID, you need to back that up with evidence, like a 300 watt panel pulling down a kilo.

I have nothing against LED tech, but the bullshit claims are counter-productive.

Surely there is plenty of evidence all over the net, if these claims are true. I see a lot of pseudoscience and wild claims from manufacturers, but where are the actual grows?

Surely somebody must have pulled 450 grams from a 30 watt led, in order for you to be so adamant that it is possible? Or even a kilo from that 300 unit you linked to?

Has anyone even come close to those kind of results?

Okay, the only mention I can see on the first link is a guy saying that he has heard reports of 2gpw, which is hardly conclusive evidence. Also, just to be picky, 2gpw is still nowhere near the claims you were making in previous posts.

Even if you were able to find a single documented 2gpw+ grow, that doesn't mean that these lights are capable of anything much more than their equivalent wattage of HID, or even cfl (dr bud on ICmag claims 2+gpw with cfls, and I've seen a lot of of HID grows that claim similar results). Unless these results become the norm, I can't really see how they are proof of anything other than grower skill (or potential bullshit).

As for the video, or should I say infomercial, even they don't make the claims that you do, and they are trying to sell that shit lol. I notice in one of their comments that, as an example, they recommend a 2x2 area for their 180 watt unit. I other words, it would replace a 250 HPS. That's a 25%-ish saving on electricity, which isn't bad, but it still isn't anywhere close to your claims.

If the best evidence you can muster is a passing mention on a site, and video trying to sell a product (and which didn't actually have any relevence to the claim that you made), then I remain unconvinced.

You simply cannot pull 450g off 30w of LED ... not unless you reveg the bitch a dozen times.





I pull 1.5 to 2 oz every 5 to 6 weeks using 2 x 32w LEDs (actual power draw is 36w per light ... 4W is for the internal fan)

The above plant (before and after harvest) was flowered using just ONE of the Kessil H150 Magenta LED lights - amazing what 36w can actually do in the right set-up.

Quite a nice smoke .... Barney's Farm Acapulco Gold.

I run a test budroom. The backup run of high intensity UVB is done and the equipment is coming out. Going in is 2700 draw watts of 60 degree LED.
I expect the equivalent of 4000 watts HID. I 'spose what I expect does not really matter, but since putting in the test room last year I have got to where I guess correctly 70% of the time. Starting to get used to lights finally.
Light is light, everything depends on how much of what kind hits the plant. Pretty straightforward really.

I really have to disagree. I'm not a led hater check my posts and journal in my sig. I'm using new model 14 spec 3wchipset cree diodes they are top of the line. If I were to draw a comparision between one of the 180w panels I'm using, based on my experience with HID lighting it is roughly equiv to about a 250w hps maybe a little more. It took me 600w of led output to fully replace 2 air cooled 400w hps and over 300w of cfl side lighting.

Also that lighthouse is actually a 100ish watt light. Blackstar adverts chipset capacity not total output. It also has a crappy warranty compared to others. I've grown with blackstar, GLH, HTG, hydroponics hut, and no name Chinese lights. Blackstars are o.k. for the money if you want to step up your game check the pro grow series from hydro hut. That's pretty much all I use these days. GLH are good too. The HTG lights are crap. All they're doing is buying them in bulk from a no name chinese company via alibaba or some other import expert, jacking up the price and re-selling.

I wonder if I should just upload my sketch for my grow area... might be easier to get ideas flowing. Anyone else curious? I could start a log I suppose from start to finish on the LED grow room and plants if anyone is interested in helping me with the set up.

So if you got that off a couple small LED lights, I should be able to run those two flowering LED's for about 8 plants I would think?

if you want to step it up from cfls go HID with LED supplemental.
hid produce large fruits. led makes it crystally as f. at least my blackstar240 gets the job done very well. i believe this is mostly due to the uv leds in the panel, also the mass of red spec.

in my opinion, cfls are a waste of time.

those booster lights are bullshit the output per diode is super low man. Don't buy them they won't accomplish anything besides taking money out of your pocket. Also like I said earlier there are lights with better warranties than the lighthouse/blackstar lights. I've used them, they do work but if you spend a little more money you won't have to use side lights. See Stealth, Advanced, Hydroponics Hut, Kessil, GLH - these will all give you a three year warranty. Remember these lights are supposed to last 50,000 hours. If a company makes the claim that their lights will last this long, which all of them do, but doesn't offer at least a 3 year warranty that is more than enough to sketch me out.

I've got a whole new light setup in the mix... someone I know works in agriculture and they are updating there lights at his work. They've got these little lights that you wire up together, 3w diode 10 diode lights, so roughly they are 30 watts in the right spectrum and everything. I want to have 32 in my flowering room, 16 in my veg, I think this will give me even light in my 9x2 area. I'll check out your link.

3) Growing Methods

A light with (50) 1 watt lights is dim and must be on top of the plant and will provide little penetration. You need at least a 3 watt LED and I would recommend no less than 300 watts. I have two Haight Solid States PPF-800 that work well but you can do the same with CFLs cheaper and better penitration CFLs are just birighter. My plants bushed up more when I changed to CFLs.

Growing methods that would work well with LED are SOG and SCROG

The lumens don't really matter... lumens is the measurement of light to the "HUMAN" eye. Plants don't care about that... with LED's it's just spectrum, what I'm hoping is I can reach around 600 watts total with 32 x 3w diode - 10 diode lights. Each small light has roughly 30 watts. The lights have the correct spectrum so this means all of that light is usable for the plants, unlike any other type of light. Like hps, your plants don't even use about 90% of your light that's being given off.

Any thoughts on using 32 small led's compared to a couple big ones?
