use more carbon like 10lbs not 12 0z and it will pull even more odors out of the air, i make diy filters like the one they sell in the hydro shop for less then $80 with almost 20lbs of carbon and run it for a year before refilling and packing

I'll dump it in and see what happens drifter. I wasn't sure if I would burn the fan up. It's doing a good job with half a box; I bet it would totally eliminate it if I were to quadruple it.

^ really wont add too much static pressure i used a 8" duct fan reduced to 6" attatched to the filter with a ceiling fan controller for a speed controllerand had no problem cooling a 1k hps in a magnum 6'xxl hood

I added the rest of the container; I had only used about 1/4 of it. It seems to be working fine and the fan is not overheating.

Just wondering if someone can put me in the right direction .... Where would I get bulk charcoal ? I just cannot see going to Wally World and scarfing all of these little jars if I were to build one.

Thanks in advance :-)

Ala French .... merci' buckets PotPimps :-) As usual, I need to keep up with modern technology.... We did not have Google when I was knee-high to a grasshopper ... We just made Google-Eyes to all of the gurls back then :-)

Thanks again PotPimp and have a great day :-)

so, do you leave the fan stand on?, that pic is little blurry. thanks
Yeah, the fan is on 24/7. Sorry about the bad pic; I could not get back far enough to get a good one, and I had to stand in a very awkward position to get that one.

Sorry, I should have clarified. I mean the plastic swivel stand on the fan... do you take that off prior to putting it into bucket, or does that plastic stand come off?... Going to try to make this. Thanks

The plastic stand does come off, and I would recommend to do so ... It makes a better fit in the bottom of the bucket.

It wasn't in the way so I just dropped it down in the bucket with it attached, but it's easy to remove.

Thanks mr. Potpimp
...good ideal...im thinking of trying this on a smaller scale, like maybe a maxwell house square 3 lb coffee container, with a computer fan taped in the bottom, with a piece of window screen holding in the charcoal....but while i gottcha here can I ask your opinion on lights? I noticed you said you where using floral tubes and was wondering what you thought about hdrofarms 2' x 8 t5 tube system, in a small confined cabinet 25'' x 25 ''x 4'. ( will these, with quatum 2900 bloming tubs do a good job on 4 plants). I cant make much heat in this little space under the stairs.
Also back to the diy filter, does plants really put out so much odor that ill need to make these filters? I have a couple peope in the house I would like to keep this secret from, do you think this is possible? thanks

well I can say that i used a smaller scale one made with a Fram cone style air filter 1/2 a container of carbon from wally world with one of those wire mesh pen holders covered with speaker cloth. I am using a 12v pc fan running on a 6v power source and i was starting to smell my flowering plants without opening my system had a passive carbon filter before now it is active I used the coffee can for the fan holder and 4" dryer ducting to connect it all together I will take pics for you later I actualy created a total vent system for my setup and it is quiet lol and now that it is in i smell nothing at all

best of luck

I am growing in two frig's that are ducted together to allow for air flow and temp control I am not using a oil filter and air filter to be exact

They have many size Air Filters this one works for my space size about 30cubic feet total so if you bigger than that i would get a larger filter make sure the screen goes 3/4 of the way down
As you can see in the pics above I have the air filter full of charcoal then duct then fan then duct I am maintaining a temp inside of 65 now lights off
I can tell you that IT TOTALLY REMOVES THE SMELL.
the shoe box next to that is the hot air delivery system i came up with for the flowering chamber this and the fan in the last pic are controlled by the thermostat in the flowering chamber. The carbon scrubber is running all the time at half rated power and is working great at 12v is 145cfm so i figure it is 72-73cfm and that is more than i need to keep temps down and not change the pressure in the grow area the plants in the pic are random bag seed and some clones from my ladies April and Becky.

thanks man frig

The filter cost 12.49 the carbon 6.49 the duct 5.79 the fan 2.75 coffee 3 or 4 bucks I cant remember
