i have three plants growing (one Sativa, one indica and a hyird) i was experementing with "topping" or "mainlineing' or "dworving" my plants. The plats that i topped the most ( has 8 shoots) has five and seven pointed leaves, the plant that i only topped once (two shoots) has 7 and 9 points. All from feminized seeds from a seed bank in Denmark.

I know this is a very old thread, but I am curious... My friend whose been growing for 20+ years told me that cannabis should have 5 leaves. He said anymore is a result of over-feeding. Which makes sense. If they have too many nutes they just try to push that shit out however they can.

Any experienced growers have an opinion on this?

Ok so again I have roughly 10 plants ( I forget how many are growing) And I notice half of them have started get leaves of 7 while the others are geting leaves of 5....... So I was wondering does sex have to do with the number of leaves my babies get. ( All plants were germinated by seed) Now I know some of you guys might say that eventually the leaves of 5 will turn into leaves of 7, this wont be the case for my plants. I look at the newly forming leaves at the top and some a5 leaves while the others are growing 7's. Also I heard the Marijuana plants can actually get 9 leaves... True? False? Is the number of leaves on a plant have anything to do with sex???:weed: funny this lil icon has 5leaves while this lil icon has 7 :leaf:.... Help this stoner out guys!!! and girls!!!!
the fingers on a leaf only mean how mature your plant is notice how when they first sprouted they had 1 then 3 then 5 then 7 ETC... and they will always be odd numbers there may be an odd ball 4 or 6 but not the norm

Your friend doesnt know shit. If a plant has to many nutes it will show signs of it and start looking burnt and eventually it will lock up meaning it will stop absorbing any and all nutrients. A lot of the time people mistake nutrient burn for deficiency, feed them more, cause lockout and basically kill their plant. If a plant is growing a good healthy green, you nutrients levels are good.

The number of fingers on leaves shows plant health. If you have a plant that grows 9 fingers, and the next set only has 7, something is stressing your plant. Topping, temperature, etc

T macc as i am quite new grow to growing your comment has me interested because i have exactly the situation you described
My plant looks healthy ie nice green color
Growing well at the moment.
The plant is a fruity pebble about 6+ weeks old
Temps about 72 degrees in the tent.
Water every 3 days or so, i feel top.of soil before watering to see how dry it is or isnt.
Will post pics for help perhaps you may have an idea of what might be stressing it.
FYI i do move them out of the tent into the sun on nice days

Most healthy plants will go 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 on fan leaves. Or being off by 1 is ok too. You won't be able to tell the sex until it gets ready to flower.. you'll see tiny nubs between the leaves on males. Most plants are bisexual and can go either way. The large fan leaves are good for bringing in oxygen and they let you know how the plant is doing,..'which you will see after you get to know your plants behavior better. Fan leaves are also good for doing folage feeding when your plants need extra nutes. Good luck!

Seriously?

Cannabis plants are not bisexual unless they are a hermaphrodite. They're typically either male or female, specifically not bisexual.

Also, the fan leaves do not "bring in oxygen". Through little pores on the bottom of the leaves called stomata, they transpire excess water from the plant, bring in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and expel Oxygen into the atmosphere.

80% of marijuana plants can go either way before they are feminized. I won't argue with something that can't be argued... seriously

80%? Do you mind if I ask where you got that number from? What happens with the other 20%?
