I've always been a lover of cannabis. I've been smoking since about 15 I had started growing once when I was in high school at my grandmothers, but It didn't last long out of paranoia. It was just a few random bulbs in a box , but recently I came across a seed in one of my sacks and figured I give it a better shot.

I was buying from my buddy for a while and his weed was subpar at the time (dry and brittle) most likely due to improper curing and letting it sit in a bag too long. I'm hoping the seed will still grow a good plant. I have a good understanding of how to grow ( from videos and forums) and I wanted to get actual experience and feedback. This is my first real Grow so please tell me what you think! :bigjoint:

I have two lights at the moment. One I got from Home Depot. It is a 300w equivalent (68w) Cfl bulb in a desk lamp fixture. And another I bought off of eBay. It is a Horticulture 125w 2700k Cfl Grow bulb with aluminum shield that hangs above.

I know 6500k is ideal for vegging, but 2700k is all Ive got. I read somewhere that it should be okay, it would just grow slower with closer nodes which is not necessarily a bad thing. We'll see.

For my growbox I tried to stay within a budget and I got a lot of my stuff at lowes and Home Depot, but I ended up ordering a few things online.

This is the list of things I bought.

-Three plastic totes $10 each
-2 computer fans (one bigger, one smaller) $30 total
-One 2 gallon pot $5
-Duct tape $3
-Desk lamp $15
-300w Cfl 2700k bulb $20
-125w 2700k bulb with shield $40
-white plastic paint $5
-Fox Farm Happy frog Soil $10

Around $165 give or take

Already had.

-light timer
-power strip

I just cut appropriate holes in the bottom of the totes and tops of the kids to duct tape them all together and have one tall "growbox". I built it with three, the bottom for the plant. The middle section has the power supply taped on the side and and intake and exhaust fan on opposite sides. The top section is like an extension for when I gets bigger. It also is room for my light to hang. ( which I hung from the top lid.) se essentially it looks like a stack of three totes. I just painted the inside white and installed the fans and lights and that was that.

Germinating my seed

I put the seed in a moist paper towel in my dark closet and it was taking a few days so I ended up throwing it in a cup of water and put it back in the closet and in two more days a lil white root was poking out. I filled my styrofoam coffee cup with soil and poked a few hole in the bottom and ran water through it to moisten soil. Then I dug a lil hole and planted my seed root down about 1/4" in the dirt and put a lil dirt over it and put it under the 300w cfl for a few days.

My plant sprouted on 9-21-15

When I noticed it sprouted I made sure to keep the water moist by spraying the soil. I didn't give it an actually watering until the next day. I also put a plastic bag over the cup the control the humidity.

My second light came in the mail the next day so I introdiced that to my grow so now I'm at 425w. Also I took the plastic Baggie off.

The first watering I ended up using tap water with just a wee bit of sugar mixed in and poured it in slowly until it ran out the bottom. Then I let her(hopefully) be. The next day she had grown about a 1/2" , but was also a lot more green and perky.

I think it's important to mention that I don't plan on worry about the PH of the water this time around, though I do plan on ordering some sort of nutrients and a PPM device.

I've also been looking into a lot of training techniques like LST, super cropping, topping, loppypopping and main-lining. Main-lining is what stood out to me though I probaby won't use this technique since it's my first grow and I don't want to fuck my plant up too much lol. I'll probably use a lil of all of them.

I'll update you all with picture asap

Hey,fellow noob here. I've done a ton of reading on cfls and lighting and from what I can tell the equivalent watt rating really doesn't mean much when growing, people here usually go by actual watts or lumens. But even with only counting actual watts you've got 193 watts in there which should be good for one plant in veg. Good luck with your grow!

Sweet thank you! Yeah I was a little curious about the "equivalent" thing. I figured as much. I appreciate the comments.

Much love :joint:

Sounds good bud and good luck. I started with cfls and have grown some bomb shit with just 4x 42w 2700k bulbs and so I feel I can offer some advice. First bit is get some dolomite lime if ur not gonna ph. Dont worrg I've nevrr phd in my life and u don't need to if ur soil and specially organic. I'd suggest fish emulsions for veg and fox farm big bloom for flower and ammend your final pot soil with bonemeal worm castings and guano if u can. If u can only get 1 do bonemeal. Cornmeal is a good additive aswell. Dont use sugar. Use grandmas unsulfured mollasses as it provides much more nutrition and carbs are easier for plant to absorb. Also mollasses is natures cal mag. Otber than making buds more fragrant tasty and frosty it feeds all the lil critters in your soil which makes big dif.

About lights, key to cfls is distance. Now I've nevrf used the big cfls so I can't comment. I've always just used two 30 gal rubbermaids flipped on eachother and 4 42w cfls in single ceramic fixtures on top rubbermaid so they are vertical and plants grow around them. Top of ur bud is at base of bulb and top of bulb is halfway down your main cola. Key to cfls is keeping em az close as possible. Because lumens really drop after just couple inches. My rule of thumb is if some leaves arnt being burnt they aint close enough. I just trimmed fan leaves as needed and never had issues. But with the big cfl ud prolly want it 2-3 inches away althougb honestly a cfl with reflector is a waste. Your losing half that light unless its 1in away. Try and point a fan directly at the light. 4"desk fan from walmart or amazon for $5 will suffice. In fact that's all I ever used for exaust in my boxes witb two passive intakes. U got two comp fans so ur good there. I'd just r un bigger one as exaust and use two 2-3" sq passive intakes otherwise ur prolly gonna have negative pressure which u don't want.

I know this is lotta info and u can check my purple chitral uzbek grow log in sig from 2010 which showz this in more detail witb pics. I stopped using cfls cuz hps is less tedius but cfls grow great quality buds and u can get really fat size nugs if u do it right. I always did sog budscicles cuz I had vert light. Lst will prolly be better for ur cfl cuz such low penetration when horizontal. Just keep in mind. By time the backside of that cfls light is reflectex off reflector and travels 1in away that 10k lumens goes down to 5-7k if that and at just 3in ur looking at 3-4k lumens from backside of that cfl light. Front side facing ur plants is about double that. Hope that makes sense. Goodluck and feel free to ask questions.

Since ur using happy frog u don't need any bone meal or castings. I'd still throw in some extra dolomite lime to regulate ph though. Also u won't need any veg nutes cuz u don't wanna veg long with cfls and all u need is in hf soil. If u need a nitro boost. Use 1 cup piss to 1 gal water. Great nitrogen and lots of micros aswell that ur body doesn't use specially if u take multi vitamin and eat halfway decent there's gonna be cal mag. Potasium phosphorous and other micros. Urine does have salt so like any fert get good runoff. FF big bloom is good organic tea concentrate that is almost impossible to burn ur plants with for flowering. Not grow big or tiger bloom althougb good ferts tbey are very salty and kill microbes in ur soil.

Hey guys this morning I was putting another box under my plant in efforts to bring it up as close to the light as I can and I knocked the cup off and it landed plant down and soil the root came out. I quickly just replanted it and put soil around it.

Is it going to be okay?

What if the root isn't in the same position? Will it find its way back down?

So far I haven't done much but water it as it needs it and just be patient. Once it's officially in veg I'll probably only let it veg a few weeks. Until it's about 12" or so.

I'm going to top it when it's at about 5-6 nodes probably and do some LST.

It's a slow process but it very fun and interesting. I'm excited to have a nice little set up but I definitely planning on scaling up my grow a little bit. I want to learn everything I can about growing the best weed.

Everyone is welcome to post on my grow I welcome all feedback from all growers :joint::lol:

Also I was curious about the yellowing of the lil round leaves. I know they are supposed to fall of but I didn't think they would turn yellow at 2". Does anyone have any advice?

How's it coming,Rdmntl?
Not too bad. I noticed the cup I had my seedling in had too many holes so the water always just ran right through and left the soil dry. I ended up transplanting it into my 2 gallon pot and roots had expanded to the sides and nearly all the way down. I probably could have let it go another
Week but it's thriving in moist soil.

My cotyledons are yellow, although the rest of plant is perky and green. I'm not too worried, but any advice? It's only been 8 days since sprouting. I also but my lights closer and took off the aluminum sheild(mainly because it get in the way)

I'm anxious too see the sex because otherwise I'm going to buy some seeds.

Any advice on buying seeds online? It happens to be illegal in my place of origin.

Yeah it's always a little nerve racking waiting to see sex. When it gets big enough you can take a clone and throw that into a 12/12 cycle if you get tired of waiting for preflowers to show up.

If you go the seed route I'd do Herbies, they have really good prices and freebies. I've had a 100% germination rate and have yet to pop a male or have a plant hermie, but I haven't been growing for long. You could buy a single seed or a small pack and have 4 seeds with ok genetics to practice on until you nail down your growing technique. Right now their freebies are
1 X SamSara Holy Grail 69 Feminised Seed
2 X Afghani Regular Seeds
With any order

Heres a pic of my plant at two weeks from the seed popping. I think it's doing pretty good but it does seem a little pale (it's still bright green towards the center, fresh growth) . Also the leafs are curling up a little.
Do you have any advice? Am I over watering, under watering or am I just lacking nutrients? Maybe it is because of transplant. I'm not too worried though because it seems to be growing fine.

Yesterday I took my plant and I sorta bent back the bottom leafs to give light to the middle baby leafs and when I woke up I swear the leaves grew 3/4"

So I figured I'd start my LST. I put two holes in the side of my pot and tied a piece of hemp twine around my plant, just above the first node, and bent it over. I'm excited to see what happens.

Hey guys Rdmntl here and I figured I give you guys an update on my grow. It's growing pretty well, with lots of shoots and branches, but it's still only About 6" tall. I lost one of big 5 finger leaves. (Like on of the first ones, but it grew two little "budsites" so I'm not too mad.

There are so many shoots so it is hard too tell how many nodes I'm at (I'll try to get a good picture and see if anyone could help)

I just decided to top my plant. There was a small set of leaves and then some more forming in between them. By there were also two little budsites in the corners.

I just cut it down and I'm hoping it will grow two shoots out of those corners. I guess that's essentially what topping is.

Also my Rubbermaid grow box was not very accessible and it was falling in on itself so I converted my dresser and I couldnt be more happy. :bigjoint:

Well anyway I'm 3 weeks in here are a few pics
