closet is 6' wide by 2.5 deep and 6' tall. im asking for optimum light output. i do heating and air so im not worried about temps or air movement. just bought some good seeds and ready to move on from the cfl's. ive tried to figure it out myself, and obviously that didn't work! thanks in advance

If your growing lopw pots like hydro flood or large shallow pots then go 600 for sure since its like $30 difference in cost. get a digital dimmable ballast incase 600 becomes to much then knock it down to 400. Height is gonna be you enemy though once you put a pot in then hang a hood with safe distance from tops you gonna have to grow very small plants

600W. Or more. You're a heating and cooling guy so temps will be a non issue for you. 6' should be plenty of height, good luck with the grow!

400 is good for a hobby grow. Chances are your going to want to go bigger sooner than later. Get the 600 if that's the biggest you can go.

in a closet that size, 600 digital (for dimming) and ScroG that bad boy out so you don't have to worry about closet height

go this one and it leaves you wide open for options either down the road.....People are slowly converting me to change my magnetics (core n coils) over to digital, and with this soli tek you can run a 400 watt globe, a 600 watt globe or a 1000watt globe. So if you find your 600 is too hot, just grab a 400 watt globe (rated for digital ballast of course) and stick her in and turn the switch to 400 watt. as others have been trying to sell digital to me, it is brought to my attention that it has a built in timer, and its soft start feature is amazing.

2 x 400w HPS + 64w of 6500k + 64w of 10% UVB Reptile bulbs.

Agree with all the 2x400w opinions above, just need to supplement HPS for better quality weed.

If it were me i'd run a 600 dimable ballast with the largest hood you can fit , dual 400's would work too but if you ever decide to set up a larger grow your stuck with 400 watt dust collectors .

Im very partial to light systems from WWW.HTGSUPPLY.COM , you can pick up 600 watt systems complete with air cooled hood , dimable ballast & bulb , plug & play for $220 & they make good shit , ballasts come with 5 yr no questions asked return policy & their bulbs last as long as big name bulbs .

I had 24 of htg's 600 hps going 12/12 for 6 yrs now & 2 other 600's going 24/7 , out of all of them ive only had 1 ballast go bad a year past warranty & they still sent me a new ballast free .

Lucky bastards you guys are to have major shops and access like that. Not only are we limited to small scale shops scattered here and there, we barely even have online or mail order facilities in Australia, and our eBay is flooded with either stuff in China/Hong Kong or its nothing but GrowLush products, and only thing that I can even remotely say I like from GrowLush is their over priced OG light hood. Even our selection of nutrients is slim picking compared to US/Canada, we don't have Humbolt products, or Fox Farm products, we just got Advanced Nutrient products across the borders but really don't want to call that bragging rights (not into the their marketing campaign). I read forum post after forum post on this forum and others (except GC as I was banned) and either wish I could try some of the products the Ameicans or Canadians talk about or sometimes I have no clue as to what the product is that I have to go Google and get the info from websites.

So bring HTG to Australia, I will be in the top 5 customers, lol

Hate to break it to ya but almost everything is a Made in China rebrand. Solis-tek, Galaxy, Apollo, iPower, Lumatek, almost every brand you can think of is just bought in bulk from some Chinese manuf. and shipped overseas by a 20 ft container on a ship.

You can find all of these unrebranded ballasts for pretty cheap, usually half the price on alibaba.com

I'm going to repost a quote from an erlier post I wrote...

Alibaba.com is where resellers go to buy stock (Solis-tek, Galaxy, Lumatek, Apollo, pretty much every major ballast brand is just rebranding Chinese made ballasts) in the hundreds/thousands to be shipped by ship in cargo containers. However, you can request a "sample" of a few ballasts which I'm in the process of doing and they'll sell it a few dollars above bulk pricing by DHL overseas. Shipping is quite expensive but still cheaper than buying rebranded shit for double the price in markup. The FOB (bulk price sent to a ship) price for these ballasts typically range from 60-105$, and then they get marked up to $100-300.

Solis-tek is actually just a front owned by a Chinese manufacturer for example and outside of NA their ballasts sell for $95 for 1000W compared to ~200-300 over here under the name Helius. Galaxy also sources some of their ballasts from the same company Solis-tek operates from - namely Jayo Technology.
