we hae covered that aswell...it is not needed no but plants that have a dark period are able to perform everything that i have stated...i dont understand how u can call somethin alseep wen it does equal if not more work than wen its 'awake'
basically plants are able to complete their photosynthisis therefore resulting in more vigerous healthier growth...i established that about 2pages ago

those that are uneducated will back the others that are uneducated just to keep a forum debate going.its easier to follow myths because there are people trying to put out their opinions as facts.its also easier for people to read all the misleading info they can obtain from a site like this then it is for them to do some simple botany research outside of MJ forums.but its not their fault..if the people writing the misleading info would have done their research in the first place before convincing people of their myths with no facts to back them up...they would not be uneducated in the first place

if you noticed i said "sleeps" its not that the plant is all laid up cozy in a bed in pj's snoring....it just means that the plant isnt up taking any nutes and most plant functions stop working..i was more trying to say that light and dark have nothing to do with any form of the plant sleeping

Thats fine with me. If you see my question, It was DO PLANTS SLEEP? And the answer to the question is YES!! But I did think it was at night. There must be other reasons its better to turn your lights off then to let them run none stop right? Other then save energy.. I mean plants need dark right? or I should say Marijuana would need dark time to do whatever a plant does in the night.

yes u are right...and what they do is not sleep...the only time they sleep as stated earlier is during rain....so if u knew nothin of this than ur original statement is wrong and has been proven so many times....u stated over and over again than a plant sleeps with the lights off. and that is incorrect! the fact that the plant sleeps during a certain period of light/darkness is wrong all together it just amazes me that someone else had to jump in for u to believe everything i have stated!...plants do not sleep unless triggered by the process of leaching with low ph ranges....which proves that not only u were wrong but infact everything that i have stated is true...and now u agree?? i just dont get it

Fine with me you said plants dont sleep so I dont feel to bad I wasnt the only one who didnt know what they was talking about..... but what the topic is 24/0 or 18/6 and I said its better to have the dark. And I say they need there 6 hours of dark. I figured they slept then and you said plants dont sleep so? Im sorry I still think plants sleep at night for some reason there is more proof that says that plants sleep at night. But thats my opinion.

The actual answer to your question is NO you are trying to associate a word from the english language that refers to the animal kingdom to the plant kingdom with out doing proper research (you may also be trying to prove your opinion, which would be emotional, not factual)

    The definition of sleep

to take the rest afforded by a suspension of voluntary bodily functions and the natural suspension, complete or partial, of consciousness; cease being awake.
to be dormant, quiescent, or inactive, as faculties.

when applied to Botany the word "sleep translates "to assume"

    from the same dictionary

Botany . to assume, especially at night, a state similar to the sleep of animals, marked by closing of petals, leaves, etc.

The actual botany term is nyctitropism

    the definition of nyctitropism is

a tendency of some plant parts to assume positions at night that are different from their daytime positions

Have we as humans in order to communicate and understand each other applied words that mean one thing to something else,,,,,YES

Have dictionaries acknowledged that we do this,,,,,,,,,,,,YES

    Do plants actually sleep,,,,,,,,,,,,NO

wow and ur ignorance still amazes me!!!!!!!! the very first thing i stated was that the only time a plant sleeps is wen we do the 'making it rain process' that was litterally like the first thing i said so how am i wrong? and ur right about the dark period being important, but ur reasoning far off from being factual!

and thank u riddleme....but once again someone with sooooooooooo much knowledge and experience as abudtokr has just wont listin...

this statement is actually flase! during the lights off period the plant is not sleeping but infact working more than it did wit the lights on!...the only time a plant 'sleeps' is right after it rains and the ground is leached....hence why some of us on here practice the 'making it rain' technique...but just cause the lights are off doesnt mean the plant is sleeping...some ppl like to think of plants to b alike as humans and that is false. the dark period is an active period where the plant uses the energy gained during the lights on period

you cant convince people of what facts are on this site...no matter how much proof you provide them.they will stick to "what they think" more then often no matter how many facts you provide them.ive given up arguing with people on this site...i now just let them go with whatever myths they want to follow...its not my plants that they are killing because of their knowledge, its their own

Once again human communicating to humans using a word they understand

how many humans on the planet do you think know the word nyctitropism?

or even better yet how many redneck farmers (which is who that article is aimed at) know the botany term???

that is the exact same link u posted earlier! there is nothing in that peice that proves a plant sleepsit only proves that the plants have a type of biological clock...............

beat me to it....even the usda using a word that to them "best describes" a plant function...stop looking at the literal sense of the word...the plant is not "sleeping" just other plant functions are being enabled...not shutting down

we care what u think becuase u are aiming to get ppl to beleive that a plant sleeps wen the lights go off, which is false and its that type of ignorance that leads to forum hype and bullshit, many ppl on here devout tons of there time into teaching ppl true and factual things and everyday there are ppl such as ur self preaching things they know nothing of, just fueling the hype and bullshit.

i corrected something that was flase and in turn ur ego was hurt and this argument developed..there are many ppl here that take certain things we are made to beleive, with no factual information, and they test and scientifically prove wether something is right or wrong. i will only be led to beleive in something that is true and proven to b true! im sure if u wur to find out everything u ever learnt in high school was oppinion and not actually fact ud be very upset! well many other ppl feel that way abouto growing plants! there have been some very smart educated people on this thread giving smart and educated responses that u simply refuse! i think ppl like u need to stop typing and trying to teach ppl wrong things and instead step bac pull up a seat and learn a thing or two from experienced and educated sources
