24/0 vs. 18/6 debate is over!!!!

there was an awesome thread here a couple years ago
some dude vegged some clones each at 24/0, 22/2, 20/4, 18/6 and i think 16/8
he kept them all tagged and followed them all the way thru to flower and harvest.
the biggest yields, best quality, and all round healthiest plants were the ones vegged at 20/4

he did the experiment himself to find out, i suggest you all do the same instead of argueing over some academic bullshit small point of view.
as someone said, the plants are C3, and that means they dont need dark for ONE SINGLE chemical process.
plants have alot more than just one single chemical process going on as they grow.

well, acualy no one really said u CANT do it. they just said its BETTER to have a dark period. but thats all i got from this thread. after a long days light, my babies get tired, theyr only lil wee ones!! i notice that about 13 hours to mayb 14 into the light hours, the leafes start to give a lil droop, not like crazy but, they do.

My plants do the same exact thing. :leaf:

:hump:...Well when i started this thread i was 99% sold on 24/0 but i have never seen such an even split in opinions as this topic its almost a 50/50 over a 18/6 and 24/0. Some people swear by 18/6 others swear by 24/0. I dont think we will ever know exactly which one is best until someone with time and money does some extensive experimenting. I think i am going to be compromising between 18/6 and 24/0. I will go with 20/4. I feel like Cannabis is an Olympic athlete in the plant world and doesnt require a full nights sleep, probably just a light cat nap each night thats why i decided to go with 20/4.8-)

and so the debate is finally over.
:leaf::-P LOL, yes and the Gold medal goes to!?.....drum roll....."20/4" followed by 24/0 and 18/6 by a nose.

i am taking my findings to the Supreme Court and have them officially rule 20/4 as the master veg light cycle!!!!!

Debate closed(forever)hehe!!

:bigjoint:.......or is it :?:.........:bigjoint:

The other chemical processes are achieved because not all the plant has direct sunlight so the shaded area deals with the other chemical processes that’s why they do better to leave the leaves alone. and seeing mother nature really had no hand in making skunk weed we genetically engineered it what 20 years ago 25 the most so un-naturally that mf'ers control is the key how can people argue with white papers produced by government scientist. One more thing people the moon when it shines is just light reflected from the sun so plants rarely get dark periods maybe 40 hours in its whole life . Plants stretching for the weaker reflective rays from the sun that bounce of the moon’s surface same bands just less of it well I read no books just so dam obvious

I used 18/6 in the beginning with my unknown female now i am on 24/0 after coming to my own conclusion you don’t use more energy your plant gets mature quicker Energy cost*18/6=7 weeks veg, Energy cost*24/0=4 weeks veg sure by the four week point I have used 25% more energy but hey you still have 3 weeks to go and when you are done guess what energy cost the same except you took 25% longer to achieve the same results food for thought people

crazy thread. but i would stil go for 18/6 its just more like in the wild. where in the wild does weed get 24/0 light for its veg stage.i have had 2 grow boxes one on 24/0 for its veg time and one box on 18/6 for its veg time both had same water and nutts. The plants on 18/6 had a avrige of 1lb 15oz and the 24/0 had a avrige of 1lb 2oz. Same strain!

I know this post is old, but I can't help but laugh at it.

It's call the Arctic Circle. How big do veggies grow up here with 24 hours light in the summer? Let me educate you.

guinness world record holding pumpkin is 1,725 lbs, shown here at the Alaska State Fair!

mate i needed know educating is plain and simple to see more light better results (as long as the rest of the grow equation is right)

a plant needs a total amout of light to get to a mature size so you dont save as you have lights on for more time to achieve the same results ie 6 weeks veg when a 24/0 needs only 4 weeks veg so you use the elcetric i did over the extra 2 weeks and if you all can not see this then time to go back to school for some math lessons

Yep, because a plant has an inner calendar, and it simply checks down the days.

Yay, I've hit 1250 hours of veg light TIME TO FLOWER...

It's a living thing, just like you. It does different things during dark periods/cloud cover. Those leaves are spending all day long processing co2, water, nutes, oxygen along with light to produce compounds used instantly, and it also keeps some in the fan leaves. When the lights go off, they use all that stocked up energy.

If you never give them any darkness, you're wasting all that potential growth saved up during light hours.

I like 18/6, however Ive been wanting to try 20/4. Ive got some clone just planted in some soil, I will 20/4 them and monitor the diffrence between the 20/4 and the last 18/6 I ran on the same genetics.

That sounds like the smartest thing anyone can do. You can read anything from anyone and all the opinions you can stand but in the end the only way you can know for sure is to try the different light cycles and determine what is best based off your own first hand findings.
Very smart way to go about it Sagensour. Please let us know what results you get. Thanks:bigjoint:

:hump::hug::clap::wall::sleep:bongsmilie:roll:So WHO THINKS 20/4 IS THE BEAST ASS BEST VEG LIGHT CYCLE????!!!! U NIGGA'SSSS!!!!!! I AM ASKING BECAUSE IN THE FUTURE WHEN IT IS LEGAL TO GROW LIKE IN 10 YEARS THEN I WILL KNOW MORE BY THEN FOR MY OWN KNOWLEDGE OF HORTICULTURE FACTS.:peace:

++ REP FOR REPLYS AND EXPERIENCE U HAAMASIZ, FUNKNFALCY KNOWS WHAT IM SAYN HEHE.
OH AND U ALSO GET :dunce::spew::dunce:FREE "HAT'S:dunce::spew::dunce:" AS WELL AS +REP FOR REPLYS AND XP....:joint:

I'm of the opinion that there isn't going to be a huge difference in growth between 18/6 and 24/0, or even anything in between. 18/6 is going to be easier on your bill and will stress the plants less. 24/0 will probably grow a bit faster but you pay a premium for that little bit of growth. Until a real study is done, I'm not willing to say that one is absolutely better than the others.
