20 Ton Rosin

Keeping it with this thread.
I have a tee shirt press just so i can press out slabs(zips). Anyone else doing the same?
Can I ask what your rosin yield is on an oz in a t-shirt press? I've often wondered if you can get sufficient PSI from those presses to mobilise the rosin from the center to beyond the material's edge...esp. on larger amounts. Even on 14 g in a 2x4.5 bag, I fold the bag in half (lengthways) and give it a 2nd press to get that rosin stuck in the center. The rosin's always a little darker second time 'round. But, there's nearly always a decent amount of rosin left - rosin I don't see if I just re-press the bag (i.e. without folding).

I only use the tshirt press to press out what i collect from my 20ton press into slabs.

here is one for you to try, get the puck just a little damp before you press, like, just have your hands wet when you handle it right before pressing, I put mine right into the freezer after pressing, i get way bigger yields, If I had a vac oven, i would run it in there. but haven't found a need just yet.
Crappy results with 70/30 pg and vg solution. I want to try 'puff majic' but no one seems to sell it here.

i can't stand PG. I make my own with only VG and flavorings using the same method above, double boil, but for 6 hours since it takes longer to infuse vg than it does pg. Anything over 50% pg becomes too runny and just flows out of the air holes on my tanks and really hurts my throat.

On topic, waiting for my low temp caged plates to arrive on Monday. Can't wait to start pressing myself.

Press is here how many seconds should I be pressing for lads
That's very cool that you have your own press. Have fun. In terms of press time, some of it certainly depends on the material you're pressing. No question. I like to press a couple of grams a few different ways to figure out what I want to do with a run. But, there are general observations too.

1. The longer you press and the more times you press (e.g. repressing after a blowout), the darker your rosin.

2. Some strains yield a very consistent rosin, whether you press for 30 secs or 180 secs. Others will give you something nice and light and creamy right away and then darken up. For those strains that offer a nice cream off the top, I'll have a second piece of parchment ready and drop my puck onto the 2nd sheet after it's given up the cream. I've not really done any kind of side-by-side comparison on the smoke from light v dark (except maybe for Green Crack, where I really like the dark + it's a bit more shattery). Right now I do it mainly so the owners of the rosin have an option for their own use or market prefrence. If I then repress, I'll usually fold my bag in half (longitudinally) to maximise extraction from the centre, reserving that (on most occasions) for edibles.

3. With kief or bubble, higher temps (e.g. 220-230) will give you more of a squirt. This can be useful if it's a material you want to press quickly (usually to avoid a darkening). Of course, this needs to be balanced against a possible greater loss of particularly the low molecular weight terpenes. Most of the time, I press kief at 180. Low and slow.

Good luck.

The one I found has a mega tank, cost was 45 bucks. But that was a local smoke shop and the only choice to buy.
Online there is a gang of options.I found mini amber bottles and blunt point syringe's there.
RuffHouse has a show to watch on the tube.
Next I will buy a bottle of VG and mix the PG with it.
But my juice with only PG works pretty well.

I wonder if carbon could remove the dark color and toasty flavor of rosin that got too hot too long. Only thing is, if you wanted to stay solvent free you'd have to get the rosin warm enough to be liquid. How you use it is you stir it and let sit for a couple hours until the carbon dust settles. It's normally done in a solvent but might work with liquefied rosin. Think how nice it would be if you could turn grade D into grade A. In a hops related patent, they used it for extract from old hops that had a rancid taste. They said it made it just like fresh. US patent 2181931.

Got my plates today. I'm ready to squish, just have to wait a couple more weeks until my harvest is ready.

You got the new Low Temp plates with the cage. Very nice.

I'd be interested to know if the whole cage heats up or whether there's some insulation to prevent that. I use motorcycle exhaust tape to reduce the contact heating from my plates to my ram and arbor plates.

Have fun..!!

Yes, the whole cage heats up, as well as the ram. I wish there was a thermal barrier between the plates and the cage but it seems to still work fine, just more costly in electricity to run. I looked at my local auto parts store for that tape but could only find muffler repair tape, not the thermal barrier tape for motorcycle exhaust so I will order some of that online. Thanks for that tip, I will use it.

Had a friend come over to try it out and pressed 1/4oz of t.i.t.s. strain and got 3.7g of some of the best stuff I have ever tasted. Great blonde color and budder consistency. Ran the temp at 95c/203f. I am a happy camper getting 26% return just from sticking a nug between some parchment paper and squishing. This was some top top shelf stuff though so I know not to expect that type of return all the time. I took pics on my friends phone so I will have to get them so I can post, but really the best part about it was the smell/taste. I am used to trim run stuff so getting to taste freshly pressed high end nug was a treat.

Edit: Here is a video my friend put up of us playing around with the press, not sure how to embed it.
