hey i have been thinking about growing for ages and im finaly doing it soo im heaps happy but yer just a few things that i was just wondering so i thought i would ask all these questions are in referral to 5 plants currently planted outside in potting mix they are 4 days old now and i havent seen a sprout yet. the ones that i have planted i did not germinate but i have some seeds that are currently germinating anything to help is greatly appreciated as soon as i see some sprouts pics will be up :bigjoint: cheers all
  1. Is germination totaly nescacary or can you just put the seeds in with the pointy part up ?i have heard that both work and i have like 100 seeds so im trying both
  2. if the person who gives you the seeds doesnt tell you what the name of the strain is does that give me the right to name it now? that would be cool
  3. can you over water your plants if there is a hole in the bottom of your container?
  4. any recomennded fertilisers of growing boosters i can use

The first crucial step, is to germinate. Doesn't matter which way the sprouts are facing, as soon as the seed cracks, it's ready to be planted. Simply place the seed 1/2 inch to an inch inside the soil. And allow nature to take its course. Just be sure that you're using the correct potting mix. Make sure the potting mix that you're using is 20 10 10. This is referred to as NPK. It references the ratios of nutrients. The first set of numbers represents nitrogen, which encourages explosive vegetative growth!

You do not have to germinate though many people do. If you are using designer seeds, it gives you the chance to see the viability of the seed before you plant it. It also hurries the process along as germinating before planting can save days on germinating in the growing medium. I mostly clone, but I have grown from seed. I have done it both ways and have had success with both. Germinating before planting is faster.
There are many strains and variations available. Many people get caught up in designer genetics and names. You can call it whatever you want, but medical users target specific strains in order to maximize relief.
You can over water and that is the number one problem for new growers. The plants do not like sitting in wet soil. You need to really let the soil dry out before watering again.
Plant nutrition is like ice cream, everybody has their own preference. It can be simple or complicated depending on the level of skill and time you are willing to invest. I have a simple system I use from General Hydroponics. It is called Flora Nova and can be used for soil or hydro. There is one part for the veg cycle (Flora Nova Grow) and one part for the flowering cycle (Flora Nova Bloom). I supplement with molasses in the flowering cycle once flowers start to develop. I use one TBSP/Gal when watering or feeding.
