The stems are getting fat because he's making his beauties work it work it! =)

Put some weights on a plants stem, bending it, and just by trying to lift the extra weight it most probably will begin to get some thickening goin' on =)

Well so far only supercropping really thickened stem for me(but only in a bended place :p ). I doubt that stems thicken because tying down. More like side nodes become mains and when they start growing up and demand more trafic, then the stem thickens to support few mains instead if one. I'd say mainly it's up to genetics. There's a reason breeders breed for more robust stem/branch structure. Also i found potassium silicate. got myself potsil.com from ebay, but there's alao dynagro protekt. Noticed that it makes them stronger, also more resistant to heat/cold.
But mainly it's genetics and the sum of all parts: root size, plant size, vigor etc etc.. but this is just my conclusion from what i've read or seen

wzp riu,

SCARHOLE if you read this I have a Q. Is this NL5H is something you recognise from those pics? I believe this clone used up already all the GA3 from its veins, cause now it's short and bushy. Hopefully not only plant structure will change but also there'll be no herming or those insanely airy buds.
One branch is being sprayed with STS. Today I'll be switching it to flower as it already reached ~13". Leaves are fat and big.

gosh it's so green and leafy without all those thrips

Surprises keep coming.. I.e. C99. It did grow a 1st true node... With another dead end :D Nonetheless I see another shoot coming out. So hopefully that one will have 2nd node, otherwise I will have a plant with no stem and loads of 1st true nodes.

Before leaving to UK I was rearranging pots and forgot to put seedlings(C99 and NevH) back under the light. so for 3 days they pretty much stayed at the back of the light. And it's dark in there. Waiting for the Nev to kick back in.
I don't remember exactly how old is she atm, but far too old to look this small.

Malawi cutting. two tops, one of them STSed. She's alr at 6th day into flower. It's damn stretchy... growing like 1 - 2"+ per day. With vigour circles and all. Hopefully this stretching thing will stop after 3rd week..

And now malawi.. She's a nice bush, but also covered with vigour circles and she's faster with growth every day, probably establishing some nice roots there. Will have to flip her today.

More flouro drop the cmh......

It will help, i think.

400w of flouro (induction 95 lpw 4500k) owned my 145 w CmH 150 hps an 100 w flouro.

But a light upgrade with your skills would amaze you...
I'd like to check those induction light options, but surprizingly enough i can't find this in eu.. i saw article saying that in europe indulights were before they came in to US, but somehow search results dont yield anything..

Forget induction dear friend.

COB LED Lighting is the new way forward. Extreme efficiency, lower cost, more light.

You should check the work of SupraSPL, Gaius, SomeGuy and Stardustsailor, just to name a few.

I'm considering either DIY my own lamps like them or maybe order one of SDS's lights. They look THA BOMB

Well, I think I'll start saving up for it.

This Malawi surely shattered all of my plans. Will be a looooong grow I guess...
Check out this. Top of the cooler is the highest point a plant can get. Might need to cut that top cola and leave the rest to gain some pistils. This clone is for seeds only anyway. Malawi clone in 15days grew from 11" to 34"

For couple days seeing STS male flowers alr:

Main malawi. bushy bush. 10 days into flower. Counting from the day I flipped. Starting to see some buds forming.

Body building continues. Those arms look insanely fat.

supercropped couple branches and got this response within 10hours.

This NL5H Clon is much nicer. No weird behaviour. No insane stretch. Big fat fan leaves. Strong stem. Stretchy side shoots. Started seeing pistils, but no male flowers yet.

C99... 3 cotyledons. couple of dead ends. 3 main shoots. Will not need to top her.
In just 2-4 days she started raging and pretty much grew everything you see here.

Nev.H is slow. But it might be cause a week+ ago pot fell from the chair. Prob roots got a bit disturbed.

finally got back from my vacation. Have to say wifey did a great job keeping them green.

Despite the fact that plants are lifting my roof they do look nice. NL5H I believe might be ready in around 3 more weeks, Malawi clone might finish it's seeds in 4 more weeks, maybe 3. Plants took pollen seriously, callyxes getting big, hairs receding and all that usual stuff.

So let's start with little ones. Yesterday was 9th day when I flipped them.
NevH is 11" tall and C99 is 14".
C99 has better looking stems. Not commenting much as they are just filling up the empty space in flower room. They are under 70W CMH and get only what's left from 150W CMH. Well as I said before, they are there not for the yield. I already can tell that something is different with this C99 with the ones I had before. She does not smell fruity, no grapefruit and that probably means that the high will not be what I'm looking for...

Here's NevH.

C99

Malawi clone. This one is the oldest flowering plant I got.
She's day 40
Seeing some seeds sticking out, but mostly calyxes are closed. Buds in general are looking very pregnant.
Clone is 30" tall +9"(medium)

NL5H.
Bud stretching happened again. But now that she's seeded, it looks like every single calyx is filled in.
She's very open with her seeds..

She's 26" tall +9"(medium)

and Finally...
Malawi
She's (like clones) 34days since flip
She is 31" tall +11(medium) and 32" wide,
Like I said couple of shoots were already lifting the ceiling.

And lack of chlorophyll on new growth due to above

Supercropped stem

Buds are packing very nicely so far. If after 6days I will see same thing what I see on malawi clone I will be very pleased :)

And finally to get the idea of how crowded there is, here's a group shot

Nah, I'm good with seeds for now.. Got over 20different different strain in my stash that I'm planning on growing. But that 1st C99 I had was real special. Like first love.
I still have couple of seeds, so there's a chance I'll find it and if I'll do, I'm not letting her go :)
I wrote an email to Female Seeds and they replied that the high is related to smell and most likely it will be something else, but you never know untill you try I guess.
Thnx Jad3, vacation was good, always nice to come back home. Im living in NL only for 3years

Here's something funny for ya guys
So, finally I managed to toke my sample.
But, this was just cut and dried, without even removing leaf material(was covered with trichs). Dried for like 10 days on the paper. So no curing.
Whew... very pleasant high. VERY MUCH up and a tad of trippy. I was yesterday heavily enjoying it. But it was still missing some color in high. I.e. the trippy part.
Now here's something for you to rofl.
This is the quantity that lasts me through the evening. 1 toke.

That was taken only at about ~35days into.
Here's one of colas of main malawi.
She's at day 40 into. Getting covered with some sticky tar!

First, happy new year Sim and everyone following. Secondly, great job as always man. I looked more into the massive amount of benefits from silica and I think that would be a great addition for me. So when I get paid today, I will be searching. Quite a few brands available, hoping to find it locally though as white widow x big bud is up next.

With this strain I'm going to stop switching strains, this one will be grown quickly but after this I won't be growing until I can clone for perpetual and I will get this strain, along with the dry/cure down to a science. I think this will improve my skills effectively, focusing on one strain for once. Made some improvements this time around so not a total loss, but, more is needed.

Hey guys, happy new year you too! Due to holidays haven't been much online and in the garden, so updates will follow maybe tomorrow. Malawi passed the 8week mark. This lanky bitch is falling all over the place from the weight. Lost insane amounts of foliage, and have no idea what was the actual cause. Colas that were properly lit and positioned became heavy and dense, the ones that lacked of light and suffered, got more leafs than calyxes. So many things to learn just from this one plant :) but I have pretty decent plan of what I'll be changing in the future so this would be handled way easier next time.
So I'll try to find some time for a proper update tomorrow, but since I'm a pathetic gamer I might uncoutiously postpone it again :)))

BTW Dutch, about potassium silicate, look into dynagro protekt, or you can check a product I got from ebay. Potsil.com
Same stuff, 3 times more concentrated than protekt, and it really works. Stems do get stronger. So the cake is not a lie. BUT.. there are other things that make branches stretch and fall in late flowering.
Is when you start LST and top. It could bring huge benefits in our small rooms, but when not mastered, you will have lots of stretchy airy tops that even silica will not fix :)
it's easy to master if you would keep growing clones of same mother, you would quickly get a feel of how to properly shape it for your room, but everytime having different genetics it adds so much false assumtions hehe
ok, nuf bragging, need to go to work tnight :/
