Well, I constructed a "room" so to speak; out of 2x4's and as of right now... it doesnt have any walls. My dilemma, I cannot get my plants any closer than 18". I'm pretty sure the light would be too intense however I need to work on my ventilation. I need a cheap fan that willl pull air through about 10 to 15 feet of ducting. What I plan to do is take some cool air from my adjacent living room, and blow it in to my grow environment between the canopy and the bulb. Theres kind of like a hotspot right there, and im sure every hps grower knows what im talking about. Id like to know if anyone has a good idea of the cheapest fan that will handle this. My temps dont get above above 82, but thats at the bottom of the canopy. Mind you its not very dense... So its prolly not as drastic of a difference as one may think.

Any suggestions? I am still deciding what material I am going to make the walls out of. I'm thinking about cardboard painted matte white, however a couple emergency blankets sounds like the method I will go with. A staple gun and 10$ worth of mylar should do the trick. The point of my posting is for opinions, and maybe a little help finding a decent fan to move that air, and what material should I make my wals out of?

I am also looking into making a hood... What I have now is a reflector and the light mounted to the frame. I'd like to make the lights adjustable. Right now I am adjusting my plants height rather than the light. If I could make a hood that I could actually adjust, maybe vent in the future; that'd be ideal.

Hi InSimplystoned.

I'm currently saving up for a Grow Closet, thinking of working with MDF as apposed to plywood, better sound insulation - about .1 to .2 inches. Want to utilize a 600w HPS in 4x4 and 6 feet high. I'm still daddling with design for utilities, vegetative and mother. Overall my closet needs to be mobile, on wheels to easily move around etc. As a finer touch I'll be routing patterns and shizz on the outside for some art, just to make it stand out and label it as a "old school project"....

However my overall goal is to do this properly. Been messing around outdoors and indoors with "bucket Brigade" antics and had enough to be frank.

If you're going low budget cardboard would work just double layer it, but try for plywood or better, especially if the grow unit is staying putt for some time.

As for hood adjustment - have you tried the chain method? This makes it easier but can be a bitch to move around when you have a cooling tube fitted, makes it heavy. I've even gone as far as to make up a simple pulley system with stranded wire - meaning being able to adjust the height of light without messing with chains. Simply balance out the hood, connect the 4 corners to a single point and rung the cable through pulley to a point easily reached for moving.

Hope this helps, pics appreciated!

Peace!

Mdf and cardboard suck in growing environments. Literally they suck up all the water and swell and peel and mold and get wrecked quick. Even particle board isn't great with water. Plywood is the most durable. I don't know what it is but everything seems to get wet when watering plants. White plastic or paint will help reflect less heat from your hps than mylar.

walls = those sheets of foam from lowes.... cut to size, can attach any number of ways. Its insulation and walls in one.

Get the hood, and in-line fan, but leave the backside of the hood open. <--|w|--/hood\- |w|

get a 'cheap' oscillating fan @ canopy level opposite the open side of hood.

add a booster fan on a small bit of venting to the lower area w/ 2 bends (fresh air intake, cool air from living room or whatever u were sayin) (the tubing/bends are only to keep it light tight)

poly film all the way around, light tight around the vent holes, timers set, n let her rip.

Thats 13.5".... gain 2 " by putting the walls on the outside of the frame, lol. Something... that flat sheet of glass and sealed environment do wonders for temps.

I would love to order that reflector, because I am using some DIY stuff (pics eventually; too medicated :joint:) that is questionably safe. However, for now I am going to focus on the walls, Reflective materials and potentially pulling in cool air from adjacent room. My temps im sure are going to go through the roof when I wall the "tent" in; however I am hopeful that the conditioned air will get a grip on the temps. What you think about that fan for the 24x48x90" room?
