12-1 lighting schedule, has anyone actually tried this?

the 12/1 thing has a couple parts. one for veg, and another for flower. i dont remember the numbers for flower but its not 12/12
12-1 veg and flower decreasing hours by 1/2 hour per weeks seems to often be used consecutively, however, they are not the same thing. One can do one with out doing the other. Using 12-1 allowed me to keep my plants though the summer heat other wise it would have had to completely shut down. But I have no complaint about my plant growth.

hahahahha.... Are you serious? 150kwh?. Son go back to school. 5hrs at 1000wph = 5kw. which is $.50 (A DAY) which ends up being $15 per month.
referring to this quote haha sorry didn't realize what page i was one, and didn't even realize how many pages this thread had. now subbing

I'll be sure to try this if I want sad looking stretched out plants...

I always get a giggle from people who judge their growth rate by height.
I get a giggle out of someone pulling 12oz. harvests making comments on my grow. If I want to pull 2oz. per plant, I will try your technique

well... i've been following this thread for a minute.

and for some reason, and some basic logic already mentioned about the interuption of the cycle, i cant bring myself to try this schedule.

but i want to...

however, for the first time ever & as a result of this thread, i moved to 20/4 light cycle in veg for the last 10 days.

seeing increased growth on my mothers... and now i have to wonder if plants do really need a "dark period" in veg.

24 hours straight for years & years ...and 4 hours dark is like a whole new world.

hmmm....

I heard about the 12-1 light schedule for veg on a Medical MJ radio show. The guy claimed it was the industry standard in commercial greenhouses; that it saved energy costs and was better for plants.I gave it a go and i cant see anythng wrong with it yet.

obviously reducing light during flowering will not destroy the crop, small adjustments like this, based on a 24 hour circadian rhythm, replicate nature. they may also reduce total yield proportionally to the loss of light, that is logic anyways. I think you misunderstand what the "haters" point is. That a 12/1 or 13 hour circadian rhythm, is not natural and the timer issues are not worth it, especially when many veg for a week or two, then flip to flower. And even more so because many of us keep mother plants and seed plants with our veg clones.

@OP: The lightning schedule you describe during veg doesn't make sense to me. I'll let someone else test that first :-)

But regarding flowering, this is what I've experienced:

I've done two grows in a row now, with identical plants.

First time: 12/12 all the way.
Second time: 12/12 at first, then 11 hours on/13 hours off, then 10/14 the last two weeks.

Result:
1. time: 12/12 gave better yield.
2. time: Finished about 10 days faster, but with less yield (don't know exact weight, but it was obvious to the eye. Maybe 10% less.).

This was just my experience, with my Indica Afghan-dominated strains. Result might differ with other strains.

Not considering you a hater Matt, I have much respect for your input. I will see what my overall yield is on this one, then I will decide if I will just use this in veg. The haters I am talking about are the ones that say my plants look like shit and will herm on me. I just want to show this works. I will not be keeping my mothers on this schedule, just my babies in veg because of heat issues.

You can't use two different grows as a basis for your reasoning. You probably just fed them better this time around... Not being a bitch, just saying that you shouldn't take too much from your test. do it again, and again, and again. also do a grow at the same time, one where you change the light schedule and one where you do not. what you've done so far is not enough to gain an idea on anything.

although cannabis is known to be a short day plant, all this means is that it will begin flowering after a certain amount fo dark hours. All cannabis needs to flower is 11 dark hours. this will keep cannabis flowering. To make flowers takes energy... that energy comes from light.
