11 weeks sativa, ready to chop?

Hey guys!

I think my plants are(or about to be) in their harvest week well I've read lots of article about harvesting time but I couldn't be sure to harvest right now since there's no amber trichomes(a few but I think it's because of they're damaged or something) What do you think about these 3 girls?? 79th day of flowering (from switch to 12/12) and two of them has yellow fan leaves. Not one yellow leaf it's the whole plant. Buds feel drier from outside. Breeder says 65 days, Super silver haze plant sativa cross %90 - %10

downloadfile-1.jpeg downloadfile-2.jpeg downloadfile.jpeg

I started flushing on day 60(it was too early i think) and I don't know what to do. Seems like lots of hairs turned brown/amber colour without lower buds. They still have orange-ish hairs but trichomes are clear/cloudy

Should I chop em? Would you?

I've tested buds and potency was not bad but was actually a little bit weird IDK why. I am wondering, if you smoke semi-dried or wet buds, is the effect/potency same as dried? I know curing makes it better but is drying all about the taste since you have a good lighter??

Thanks! :bigjoint:

Good you posted a thread, maybe someone with more experience than me can give you a pointer. I've only had one real harvest to now myself!

And I was all insecure about when to chop too -- I was growing northernlights5 x haze which is also more sativa and one of them took a real long time to start showing amber trichs -- so whilst agonizing over them I found out that in fact, not all strains show amber. They go from milky to dark brown, and dark brown is a sign of the cannabinoids breaking down again (you don't want that).

Did you see my trich pix, here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/how-to-scrog-up-bushy-nl-5xhaze-girls.891365/page-10#post-12326675 ? Just for comparison.
There wasn't hardly any amber, just the occasional really dark one. And the high from them is awesome!
When they were freshly harvested, it was just strong. Curing has kept changing the smells and taste AND effect too. Where it was like "wham!" right after harvest, it now has nuances and phases haha! :bigjoint:

Not sure about what you mean about weird? Perhaps you could explain what you mean?
Cheers!

One the plant reaches the color of trics you desire harvest...

thats the biz we are in, like apples on a tree its rare for trics to just appear your favorite choice

but appear gradually bit by bit...so

for this consider taking the buds sequentially

or as they appear

good luck

I can't find the exact word to define this high. "Head-rush" maybe?? When I said "weird" I meant "not usual" and after your comments I think it's because they didn't dry and cure properly. Of course I won't do this to my whole harvest, I'll dry and cure them slowly. I was just testing some buds...

I still have concerns about harvesting since it gives me a premature bud type high sometimes. I think I'll wait for a few days and right before the lights go on, I'll chop!

@calliandra I read your whole journal and saw that trichs, I think my plants has more clear trichomes than yours. Idk why is this delay happening but it may be heat stress or some nutrient deficiencies I guess. You have great harvest there!! Dawn and Dusk both looking awesome! Mind blowing smoke after cure I think??

I think I can switch to 14/10 light schedule. And I hope 3weeks flush(no-nutrients every watering and ph between 6 and 7) is not a serious problem.

Thank you all bongsmilie love this community bongsmilie

Seems today is no-worries-day over with me haha - you know, don't worry too much, just take your plants as they come and be happy?

So yeah, leaving them for another few days sounds just about right to me!
Idk about flushing, I don't do that, but I'd say those buds look nice and fat so you haven't deprived them of anything essential by doing it when you did.No worries about the yellow leaves either, it's just end of life cycle, where you're wanting to go anyways :p
And if you're feeling impatient then you can then give them some "hints" that you need them to finish quicker - by not watering anymore and/or turning off the lights for 2-3 days before chop
It'll be a great harvest, that much is certain! :weed:

The yellowing of the leaves is a good thing, lot of ppl call it the "fade" , when in flower you give very small amounts of N since the plant doesn't need much in flower, so as they mature the leaves will yellow like that, also from you flushing you washed away the nutes that the plant was feeding on. Should be a good smooth smoke if you dry/cure correctly.

I don't have any links or study's on this, but, the "racey" high you got from the bud was probably 2 things, first its a sativa so it's going to have a more energetic "racey" high than indica's, also premature bud gives you a more racey high, years ago I was reading in some weed book how a lot of European growers prefer to take them down slightly early just for the racey high. Also wet/wettish bud doesn't get you as high, something to do with the THC detaching from the h20 molecule or something like that. If I'm wrong about any of this some feel free to correct me.
And I think those girls are pretty much done bro.

The other thing I would say is dont pay alot of attention to the breeders recommendations for flowering. They are different for everyone. The weed is ready when you think its ready, you will be able to notice by yellowing and also by the way the buds swell among other things (trich color). When the swell recedes a minimal amount is when I usually yank em up.

I know a guy that follows breeder flower times and feeding charts to the minute... And every time his bud is a little premature , I tell him to not follow the time/feed chart like that, that it is just a guide , but he thinks I don't know shit lol. He also said I was full of shit when I told him. He was gonna get bugs if he kept wearing his boots and and dirty cloths into his grow room, he laughed right In my face... Guess what, he had to chop way early cause he for spider mites lol.

I'm definitely happy with my plants, I just wanted to know if there's something wrong about them but apparently -I'm much happier now that- they have no problems at all. I think they will still be much more potent comparing to local bag weed.

The reason behind me feeling weird high may be I'm not too familiar with only-head high strains. local weed seems they harvest it too late. Buds they sell, have seeds most of the time. Genetics are strong indica bag seeds so I thought maybe it felt weird when I couldn't find that body high. Dont get me wrong, I dont want a couchlock body high, I never wanted a couchlock high.

The reason why I love and grow the plant is the energetic euphoric head high effects primarily. I also love to eat munchies all the time. I love all types of it anyway and I'm sure that I love sativa effects more.

When I read that if amber shows up, she'll start to degrade thc and it'll be a couch lock high overtime so I worried about it. Now I know there's a few things to change the high with harvest time but it's up to the genetics and you can't make a big difference about it. I think I don't need any amber at all! I'll just watch em for most cloudy time and then chop em and dry em and cure and I think they will be one of the best smokes I've ever had(they are still so good even without drying)

This is my first grow and I followed the instructions since I dunno what to do. Nutrition by chart and days counting based on breeder's information. That was wrong and this is what I learned from my first grow.

The plants will tell you if there's something missing or wrong. You just look at them every day and not act impatiently every day as this will cause stress to them.

To myself before my growing experience: love them but don't treat em like they always need anything. They have their own time schedule and this period changes by a lot of variables. There's lots of thing that can make your harvest delay. I realized I didn't need a plan I needed strategy and knowledge. Lots of reading..

Keep an eye on them and don't plan everything based on dates. They will eventually tell you what's wrong! Grow will be going different than what you've planned(idk maybe its because this is my first grow) and if you don't care and just go by planning dates, this will just cause unwanted results. This is what I experienced from my first grow and I hope this helps people. It won't go as planned everytime like every other thing in the world.

About the darkness period: I couldn't find a good source but seems everyone telling that it works, so I thought why not? I also read that they'll reach at their peak THC levels right before the lights go on. Idk what to do about it guys. They still discuss about it on board. I think I'll harvest and hang two of them and at the same time the other plant stays in darkness. I don't think I can see a noticeable change on trichomes with this darkness thing but maybe its worth it.
Thank y'all! Happy grows :weed:

Just make sure that plant in darkness has some airflow (and the ones hanging too) or you'll end up with some mold. I dont go for the darkness thing; I think its bs and Ive harvested all different times of day and night and didnt see any noticeable difference either way. I usually harvest in the morning so I'm losing zero terpenes during the heat of the day (not that much would be lost, but might as well minimize).

What I mean is total darkness is not making sugar buildup more, thats genetics.....Of course hang dry in the darkest room possible is perfect as light does degrade THC
