1000 Watt Closet-or-Two In A Tube|Talkeetna Old Man|The Grouch|

I'm a bit late on the draw with this one, but I suppose better late than never! This will be my last "family strain" specific grow I will do.

-The Grouch:

-and Talkeetna Old Man:

So, let's get started!
-My room

Its roughly 2' x 3' x 8'
I have roughly 650 cfm of passive draw intake, which is drawn through a 6" dia. cool tube with 600 watts of glorious hps inside (adding in another 400 watt hps for flower ) and into my attic space. That along with the three 12v cpu fans gives plenty of air flow/ temp control.

The screen:

hand made with 3/4" pvc pipe, screws and synthetic cord/string, and about 2 and a half hours of patience. The "holes" are about 2"x2" with a little more than 150 spots in total, and resting about 12-13 inches from the soil. Measured near perfect, it snugs right in place with no need to "affix" it to anything... As this is my First SCROG I hope that last statement holds up!

day 14 of veg:

Today (at time of posting) Day 21 of veg:

I just dropped the screen in tonight and got my girls situated in there. Gonna veg for another 12 days, maybe raise the lights and coerce them into stretching a bit ...

Questions comments and criticism are all appreciated!

Subbed up. I'm going to be doing my first scrog here pretty soon too...It's nice to see some other Alaskan peeps on this forum.

What kinda soil mix are you using?

fish guts/organic miracle grow (because its "living" soil) and jiffy mix.... its a killer mix and doesn't produce a putrid smell when mixed right. If you're in Alaska, ask an old timer, they'll tell you fish guts are the way to go!
Subbed up.
Glad to have you along for the ride!

come along for the ride! I'll show you the way!:weed:
Take me on as an apprentice. I will revert back to newbie status, forgetting everything I know :P (seriously. I'm aiming for the 1 lbs plant, and I already intend to completely change the way I veg, next grow. Maybe I'll start with guidance this time, as opposed to exploratory and subjectively biased experimentation)

I ended up with a beautiful white widow from a good friend. I decided to drop my screen down to about 20 inches, that's about 5 from the tops of the 5 gallon buckets and about 9 inches from the soil. As per the care taker of the beautiful WW, I have started very aggressive foiliage training, as well as some HST to convince my babies to catch up with the widow. I now have 6 plants crammed into my closet again, something I didn't really want :wall:, so I'm contemplating pulling the weakest Grouch... I'll try to toss up some pictures tonight after I figure out if I want to veg for another week

before reading your last grow im going to make some bold statements
-you have way too many plants in a 2x3 space, that much soil will create bigger girls than needed (for the space) who will fight for canopy room- stretch too much, and then not really flower right. I would put 1-2 girls in a 2x3 with a decent veg time, and about 6-10 gallons of media- less if coco, more if soil.
-600 watts is more than enough for 2x3, the 400 more would be overkill
-your plants look a little burnt, what nutes are you using?
-it looks like your last nug dried a little fast, try starting cure at 65% RH and work down 5% a day, that's ambient. there's an epic cure guide out there ill try to find

now the compliments
-your last nug looks fire
-the pc fan idea is sweet, how do you rig those up to get power?
-MOST importantly, I love your veg fridge idea, how the hell do you get air into that though? or do you legit just plug it in lol???

looked at the last grow, awesome results! not the way I would have run it, I like to eliminate the lank, however your plants still had enough light to fruit some wompers, and it was so packed that stems didn't need to be too beefy since the plants were all supporting eachother. that's that natural scrog

I think I may agree with the first, I do have too many in there, but I do plan on AGRESSIVE defoliation and probably only letting main colas form my canopy.
-600 should be enough for my 2X3 but in order to get the direct coverage over the entire canopy, I want that other 400 in there!
-Old time indoor gardener mixed some soil up with Organic MG and Fish ferts... told me to only water until I get to flower... then I got some GH Flora Nova
-I was in a huge rush to get it down and dry before I had to leave on vacation for a couple weeks
-Trust me it was some fire!
-I rig the pc fans up to a 12v dc power supply that I cut the end off of
-Its a mini fridge that I gutted out, it has two 78 cfm active intakes and a twin 175 cfm exhaust... I'm running a couple from start to finish in there to show someone cfls work
It was moderately inspired by a modified chest freezer stealth hydro set up that I saw at a buddies house, his set up has THREE 400's and the freezer comes on periodically throughout the day to cool the lights/cabinet

There she is, rockin a couple 42 watt cfls, waiting on her 150 watt hps

closet went on 12/12 today as its solstice! try to get a couple pics up soon of the scrog

I would have to agree with you here. I have seen 600 watt lamps provide a steady 35 to 65 watts per square foot in a 4x4, evenly enough to saturate all the plants with optimum light. Grow rooms set up in this manner have held anywhere between 1 and 16 plants, depending on the method. In conclusion, 600 watts is a bit overkill for a 2x3. I use pc fans, too. I find that one 5" 12v pc fan per 3 cubic feet is more than enough exhaust. And you can make 3 disposable carbon filter fans like that for a grand total of $27 to $57, and it will evenly move an entire 2x3x6 room's worth of air in about 45 seconds.

...scrog...
You are growing the right bud, but you are being counter productive. If you were to just make two changes to your grow, you could have a ScroG and SoG perpetual harvest, cranking out ounces of nice bud every two weeks until you have your limit. You could ScroG a mother and keep her in veg, take clones, mature 6 clones to 2 weeks of veg, then switch them to flower immediately and lollipop them all. In a 2x3 under 600 watts, you can crank out 6 huge kola every two weeks. The way you would do it is, as soon as you switch the six to flower, start six more clones. This way, you only need one plant, and two grow rooms. Your veg room would require almost no maintenance, don't prune anything from the mother, let her defoliate at her own pace. Just feed her and keep her healthy. If you expand your flower room to 4x4 and keep the sodium light just above the plants without burning them, you can crank out 16 huge kola per fortnight. That's what you want, right, kola buds? If you scrog like this, you will also need to pinch, top, supercrop and flux in order to get the same results as a perpetual SoG. The voices are telling you to do it...
start all clones and seeds in 1x1 cubes or pellets until they are root bound. Then transfer them to a 5x5, then to a 3 gallon pot. You will want to use taller, less wide pots as the roots of cannabis grow long, not wide. If you do this, there is a better chance of fitting more plants in your SoG

Yeah but its kinda hard to make my living room closet any bigger.... and I still work 10 hours a day 6 days a week.... I am very aware of what it COULD be and what I want versus the amount of time and effort my wife and kids allow me to put in!;-)

honestly I just want a couple more pounds before I leave state in a few months! and I figure an overkill closet might just be the way to go!

Maybe, but a SoG will crank out huge amounts of good bud in no time flat. It's actually a hell of a lot easier than trying to ScroG one plant for the same purpose. The amount of effort will be less, but the amount of time it takes will be a little more. So, there's always that factor, there. Whatever works for you, man, you are already cranking out some good medicine!
