Let's Talk Terpenoids
Research is somewhat recently discovering the importance of Terpenes/Terpenoids to the medicinal benefits of Cannabis. Cannabinoids like THC and CBD etc. certainly have their place medicinally, but research is finding that the Terpenoids combined with Cannabinoids is of much greater significance to the efficacy of a given strain of Cannabis. It may be hard to believe, but High Times actually published a really nice article on the subject in the newest issue.
...so my statement/question to start off this thread is this....
Solvents used to create BHO destroys Terpenes (highly volitile compared to cannabinoids), therefore much of the medicinal qualities are destroyed, if grain alcohol is used to make a tincture, and the Cannabinoids and Terps are left in suspension (not boiled off), are the Terps still intact?
Also, wouldn't ice and be of far superior quality compared to solvent extractions?....i know the answer.....but wouldn't most people prefer medicine that is highly aromatic with much of the Terps intact?....it all seems like a no-brainer to me....I have always struggled with this fascination with solvent extractions, and how so many folks are so geeked on it.......

Not gonna lie tho buddy. Really leaning toward dry ice extraction and edibles. That wax shit is IFFY.
nugs im with u 100% no bho in my camp. we make bubble for patients and i still prefer to smoke dry sieve to this day.

In the case of CO2 extraction, the carbon dioxide is the solvent. It's a supercritical fluid extraction just like with butane.

As far as I know it butane doesnt destroy the terpenes.
Its the process of the solvent extractions.
Your desolving the waxy membrane that protects the terpenes and cannabinoids.exposing them to the elements.
And terpenes evaporate at pretty low temps. So as your purging there goes the terps. You add heat and there goes more.
I dont see it any different in a co2 extraction .
I would rather have residual co2 in my oil then butane though thats forsure.
