I think being a weed nerd is more then just attempting to grow dank. I would tend to think if your working from a weed nerd point of view you are interested in the how, when and what of these plants and trying to understand them so we can better cater to them while they grow which in turn they will cater better to our needs after the grow. Its the understanding that you personally will never attain every single piece of knowledge out there about our plants but instead of letting that hold you back you see that as a reason to keep striving for more and more knowledge knowing that you'll never stop learning.
Weed: Cannabis, esp. as smoked in cigarettes.
Nerd: An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession.

A weed nerd is someone currently in the practice of farming dank or learning to farm dank. A person who lets the energy of cannabis guide them towards happiness. Being a weed nerd is about dedicating yourself to something Higher.

A weed nerd is someone that has a designated bowl or joint ready for every episode. Someone who hangs on Subs every word and truly appreciates the insights he gives to all of us. Someone who's greatest fear is Sub getting sick of doing the show.
A true weed nerd owns a pair of night-vision goggles so he can work in his grow room in darkness without disturbing his plants. He wears a pocket-protector while clipping, so he doesn't get resin stains on his shirt from his scissors. He likely owns a high-powered microscope so he get up close and personal with his trichomes. He's also likely modified his computer monitor to emit only green light, so that he can stay up all night playing Dungeons and Dragons Online and reply to RIU threads 24 hours a day from his grow room without waking up the only girlfriend he's ever known, Mary-Jane. Also, he likely cuts up old issues of "Scientific America" to use as rolling papers.
