For dolimite just go to any feed and seed store better yet use the phone save some gas but its simply lime that breaks down faster than plain lime. You cant add it at this point though as the lime is really what takes the longest to break down.

As far as Azomite u can use Fritted trace elements instead from a fish store but here is there website.
http://www.azomite.com/

Just call and ask for a dist in your area.

Hey sub,

just wanted to ask again.

Do you think a mix of one parts super soil to two parts base soil is too much for my 4x4x1(h) box?

Or would thorough mixing of this ration be alright?

Thanks.

Subcool,.. thanks for being such an excellent teacher. I for one have learned a lot. I had a couple of questions if you don't mind.

Do you think the lime may not actually take a lot of time to break down, but is actually combating the pH depression that the breakdown of the organics would cause, and when the pH comes up, it's because the mychorrizae have slowed down and the bulk of the decomposing has finished?

How many generations do you think on average does it take to produce a stable strain?

thanks,.. again.

very possible but dolimite breaks down very fast raising the ph that was lowered from all the fertilizers added that are acidic

Stable strains are a complete myth.
Vortex is a one time cross of two poly hybrids and it is as stable as any strain worked for 2 decades its all according to the genetics of the parents.

thanks,.. again.

Thanks for the response. I guess my theory about pH depression and mychorrizae activity isn't true.

20 years,.. wow, I'll appreciate the smoke even more when I get a chance to spark a bowl of it.

love the info in here, Subcool. I mix my own organic soil too and find that very little extra ferts are needed even in 3 or 5 gallon pots. ive been an organic general gardener for years and thats what i know best. i also like to be able to get all my soil additives from a regular store - the only 'specialist' additoive i use is bat guano

quick question - what is the ph of the water you use?

i tend to adjust mine with citric acid to about 6 (the theory being that the ph then sweeps between 6 and 7 as the dolomite lime buffers it and different nutrients are available to the plant at different ph's)
do you think this is unneccesary? the ph of my untreated water is 7.2 or so.

I think as long as your so close to neutral its not a factor. My water comes in at almost 8 so I adjust down to about 6.2 or pee color on a 1 drop test kit

The fluctuation of ph can effect the absorption but I really think it applies more to hydro gardening than soil container growing such as we use with concentrated nutrients
