Question Intake/Exhaust questions...
Long time reaaadaaaa, first time poosstaaaa....

Or maybe second time.

I know there are a ton of questions like these among the forums - so many so that it's difficult to find threads that are 100% relevant to the questions I have... so here I go.

I'm using my walk-in closet in the MB of my house - plenty of room inside, and the standard size of a walk-in closet. I have a cabinet with a CFL grow - top light, two sets of side lights, and a 400w HPS for flowering.

I'm not too concerned about the heat produced during the veg (CFL) stage because I have an A/C vent going directly in to the room - however, I'm curious about intake and exhaust when the 400 watter is running.

My first and most pressing question - how do I clean the air that I'm taking in?

My closet is attached to my master bath, where I shit, shower and shave on a daily basis. Surely some molds and other bacteria will be afloat and aflutter in the air - and I'm sure I need to keep these (and the excess moisture showering causes) away from my baby girls. Will a carbon filter handle microbes on an intake as well as it does smell on exhaust?

My second question - how much exhaust do I really need? At this point, I don't plan on using the CFLs and HPS concurrently, but I'm sure that will change. In a 10'x10' room, how much heat will both produce? How much CFM (excuse me if I'm phrasing this question incorrectly) do I need on intake and output? Just general numbers will be fine, though if there's a formula to be pointed to I'd be most grateful (teach a man to fish, and whatnot).

Thanks for answering - pleasure to be a part of the lurking community at RIY!

Just use a charcoal or carbon filter for your intake just like you would for your exhaust. The filters will do the same job either way. As far as how much ventilation, you'll want a fan that can recycle the total volume of air from the room in about 5 minutes or so. CFM stands for cubic feet per minute; cubic feet=HxLxW
Hope that helps

I do my biz in a walk in closet that I share wit my lady, my girls stay in a 4x3 space I'm gettin a 250w for my next grow and I not worries bout the heat at all... Shut your closet when you shower.. Always yes your temps will rise but just shower fast.. As long as your closet doors stay open and you got good circulation, house temp need to stay in the 68-72 zone,, but if you wanna keep the doors close thats a whole new venting and ducting game bro. Hope I helped I'm pretty gone I dont feel like i completed my thought on your situation.
peace and love all

There's nothing in your bathroom that's going to make any difference to the plants. You don't need to put a carbon filter on your intake or any filter period if it's pulling from inside the house.

I run 800w right now in a 4'deepx6'widex7'tall closet, made up of two 250w halides and two 150w hps's with all the ballasts in the same closet. My only exhaust is a bathroom exhaust fan of unknown but certainly very low cfm. (much much lower than any squirrel cage fan or can fan) I can close the door to the closet and keep temps around 90, or keep the doors open and then the closet and my bedroom go into the 80's and 85f range.

If I had a problem with the temps I would have put the ballasts in the attic and then I think it would be a different ballgame.

Anyway all those lights do create a lot of heat, well over twice what a single 400hps would. If you can afford a good fan get it, if not you can get by with very little like I am. If you set the lights to be on during the day and off at night so you can sleep and it's not hot when you're in there you'll be set either way.

Thank you all very much for your input. Sounds like things are simpler than I believed.
