Here is my problem. I have been using Fox Farm's Ocean Forest cut with Light Warrior and peat moss. this has been working great but it is a little too expensive for me right now, I am growing 6 plants indoors and I just transferred them to 5 gallon containers. I would therefore like to make my own soil with easily available ingredients that I can pick up in town for a fraction of the price that I have been paying for the "OF" concoction. Also Subcools Super soil scares me a little, I am new to growing and I am very afraid that I would mess something this hot up and kill my girls.
I have available to me for a reasonable price all of the following: High N bat guano High P bat guano Fresh chicken manure Fresh , or sun ripened, horse manure Worm castings Bone meal Blood meal Perlite Peat moss and your average ordinary potting soils sold at Home Depot, Lowes, or Walmart. Also Lowes sell this composted cow and chicken manure in 40 pound bags for a little over a dollar a piece, I would hope to use the cheap compost but if I need to spend a little more money to get a quality soil that will not overkill my plants I would like to do so. So, can anyone recommend something that I can concoct with these ingredients to make a 10 gallon or so batch of soil at a time? I realize that this may sound stupid to some people when I can just copy Sub's super soil recipe, but I really don't want to burn my plants and I would like to use readily available ingredients that are around the house / town instead of having to order anything else from the internet. My neighbors are already asking questions about all the boxes I had delivered recently. And yes I do want to feed my girls with some weak / mild teas as Ohsogreen has instructed in some of his threads. Thanks for any advice given and sorry if you think this to be a redundant question. |

o.k. if I were in your situation,I'd definitely skip on the fresh manures, how about (in ascending order) blood meal, hi-p bat-g,bone meal, worm castings(a lot), and at least 30% of the whole deal- perlite (you need airflow to the root system).if you can get charcoal(fireplace, not kingsford!), that really helps.it buffers the acidity from guanos etc. and is in the perfect form(ash and charcoal) for the plant to use. plants go crazy for it! also you may want to foliar feed with real organic.NOT f.f.grow big, or other non-certified-be careful!-,they tend to burn your weed. I personally use earth juice with no prob's whatsoever.I spray straight water the last 2 wks.to clean 'em. on another note...you may want to think about changing your moniker to something more positive, say 'knockmedownIstillgetup', or,'ilearnfrommymistakes',or 'youonlyfailifyougiveuptryingnewways'. and remember: "I'm good emough; I'm smart enough; and dog gonnit! people like me!"(senator smalley).
