Are they too weak to travel any distance or does the distance make it weaker. Car parked in driveway. Ipod radio works in the house when it's sending from the car. But wont work in the car when sending from the house. How much does the receiving end play a part?

Well, very weak to begin with and they drop off logarithmically over distance.

You can always use a collector to focus weak waves or photons, but we don't have parabolic reflector dishes expressing in our phenotype. (Unless your a member of the royal family - dig those ears!)
