Who needs it?

I believe we all do. We all need to trust people at some point or another in our lives. We all have been stung or thwarted by this trust at some point in our lives too. Does this make us bitter or sardonic, or do we just learn who the right people are to trust?

Who here finds it difficult to trust others? Are we, here at RIU, a good judge of character or do we prefer to err on the side of caution.

for some reason i trust everyone. then they screw me. then i give them another chance. i try to believe people are good.

I believe people are inherently good too. But, I only get stung once.

I agree with FDD... I would much rather trust people than not, though there is only so far my hand will extend.

I've learned to be a little more bitter and life has been the teacher, with me now you are guilty until proven innocent.

I've found i've been getting done over less since i have adopted this policy.

I'd like to believe that people are good deep inside, but thats a fairytale, in this day and age everyone is out for what they can get, occasionally you meet some nice folk that you get along with and think like you but most of the time everyones out for their own agenda.

Maybe we could edit the pole and have more options available to us.

Maybe something along the lines of

I trust people until they have given me reason not to

I trust people that i know but am wary of others.

I dont trust anyone until they have proven themselves.

I don't trust anyone and it would take a lot for them to covince me.

You must first trust someone to find out if they are trustworthy.

There are a lot of people in the world that seek to take advantage of trust. I believe filtering out the riff-raff is something we learn.

We all have agendas, trust is about amicably sharing an agenda so that both parties benefit.

I'm with Skunk on this one. I used to be like FDD and trust everybody, then I got thrown under the bus 1 too many times. Now I don't trust ANYBODY until I get to know them. I'm usually a pretty good judge of character, and if someone rubs me the wrong way right off the bat, I shut them out immediately. If I think someone seems pretty cool, I will give them the benefit of the doubt (not too much) until I feel they are indeed trustworthy.

I believe that at first you wouldnt trust someone, you would put your trust in them.

Never trust a salesman...especially insurance and vacuum cleaner salesmen.

Only trust a saleswoman if she has nice breasts.
