Vortex from TGA Subcool Seeds

Strain: Vortex - phenotype: small bud, banana runt smell & taste, fast flowering

Growth: Fast to root, fast to grow in veg, easy to train, likes to be topped and bushes out nicely. Has quite a bit of stretch in flower and puts on a lot of internode space once it is flipped to a 12/12 cycle. If the plant is not topped, the bottom branches will stretch to nearly the top of the canopy and create their own top colas. Although none of the buds are exceptionally large, even the bottom-shelf nugs are resin coated, dense and fully developed at harvest time. I would suggest staking early in flower to help encourage larger bud formation because the branches, even when topped, bent and trained are not very sturdy. She also responds negatively to environmental stress both in veg and flower so keep her away from the fans and intense lights or heat. The other pheno we have grown is much more hardy but not nearly as nice as a finished product.

Nutes: Light feeder. We halved our base nutes of Botanicare Prue Blend Pro and increased our Silica and CaMg feedings. This helped reduce stress reactions and kept the plant much greener throughout her life cycle. We also went light on our bloom push which we gave a few days early because of the quick flowering times.

Yield: about 4-6 oz from a 3ft tall (ground up), 2ft wide plant. Gives amazing returns 20%+ for BHO

Bag Appeal: Dense nugs. Easy trim, hardly any fan leaves. Trichromes stacked on top of eachother. Light green color with barely any hairs

Smell: Yellow - combination of a creamy sweet banana and a citrus lemon smell. Only non fruit smell present could be described as gym socks. Absolutely no green, pine or skunk smell present.

Taste: More creamy citrus than sour citrus. Banana runts

The High: You feel it in your face before you exhale. Good anytime but sleep-time smoke. Makes groups giggly and creative and motivates. Does not give couch-lock but definitely takes the edge off of anxiety and stress. Good anti-depression and mood-lifting strain. Good for when you have a lot of work to get done and you want to do it in a better mood or you need some inspiration for that creative side.

Super nice report bro.....please keep em' comin'!!
I popped 6 Vortex seeds last year and only got 1 female, and she was the small pheno too. The good part is, I found a real stinky little male that I liked, and used it on a few things. The main thing I was working is the Romulan cross. I have some phenos that are gonna be quick and stinky, and the Rom added some weight to it so far. They are at 32 days right now. Wheezers 10x 20 garage thread in indoor section.
i like your work and hope to see more of it.

I just harvested some Vortex too. I love this strain, second time I grew it. One of my all time favorites! Highly recommend for everybody, truly a great High and such amazing flavors and smells.

Great job! Your report was well-written and informative.
TGA has alot of those strains to fuel inspiration and enlighten mood. And they also want to grow, no finicky plants. Everything thrives.
I don't think I've ever had a TGA strain give me anxiety either.
Other amazing strains are Qrazy Train, all Jack the Ripper crosses, Third Dimension, Deep Purple.

What do you think about the CheeseQuake?

Thanks for all the positive response! FriendlyTokez- Thats a good way to sum up TGA's line! We love the JTR crosses for inspiration and mood elevation but have had a hell of a time growing out the JTR. We have smoked JTR grown by friends, and theirs is one of the most uplifting strains of TGA's that we have tried. It's a true bummer it doesn't work well in our garden. We lucked out on two amazing phenos of Ripped Bubba, are flowering out Ace of Spades, and are going to be trying Green Queen x JTR soon. I'm glad to see Subcool has created so many JTR crosses because those all seem to grow just fine for us and work perfectly to put us in that happy mellow mood.

Here are some pictures of the same plant pictured in the original report, right before her harvest. We left her in a full 9 weeks. The pictures from before were taken at Week 7.

Now that the buds are starting to dry, we can finally respond. The 9 weeks seemed perfect for our garden. We harvested a different cutting of the same phenotype much sooner, around 7 1/2 weeks. The smell/taste is much more intense on the 9 week finish than the 7 1/2 week plant. The 7 1/2 had more of a sour/citrus smell while the longer harvest took the buds to a creamy banana runt smell and a taste that was equally as smooth and creamy. Very distinct and less "generic citrus" than the early harvest and some of the other phenos of Vortex that we came across. The buds are VERY dense, the trichromes still have their heads and have majority milky, some amber coloring. Sticky resin, easy to roll into a joint. Even without a proper cure, the smoke ashes white and has NO harshness whatsoever. The extra time did not produce any couch-lock like in some of our other strains. She is still as motivating and elevating as the 7 1/2 wk finisher, if not more so.

We do think 9 weeks is a little long under normal circumstances. This plant was un-topped, about 5ft tall, and its lower branches stretched all the way to the canopy, becoming top colas themselves. She was vigorous and hardy, but she took some extra time. This run we topped her, bushed her out and controlled her canopy to a 2 1/2 ft sea-of-green style area. She seems like she will move along much quicker grown like this.

Wow! Those look really nice! Very frosty. Nicely done!

I have a question for you (or anyone that has smoked Vortex). I did a little research on it's ancestry, I saw that it has some C99 in it. I've had C99 a couple times before, and it tends to make me paranoid. I've never had another strain do that to me, so I'm a little gun-shy to try anything crossed with C99.

Does Vortex give you any paranoia? It looks/sounds like a great strain, I just don't want to waste 3 months growing out something that's going to have me buggin out!

My uncle still talks about the first time i took him to the dispensery I got him 7 grams of vortex. He said almost 40 years of smoking and vortex was hands down the best smoke ever. I just wish tga had fem seeds. I got no room for males, with a plant limit.

We understand about those paranoia strains! Vortex has not given us any problems at all. Infact, it is very elevating and happy. Subcool does advertise it as being not for beginners, which would make us worried about paranoia as well, but after growing and smoking it, I do not think that our Vortex gives off any paranoia at all.

Agreed, Vortex is so uplifting I don't see how it could cause paranoia. I love my Vortex, thank you subcool for all your great strains. Right now the only subcool gear I have in flower is a cross I made between a Flav mother and Qrazy Train father. Love both those strains so I can't wait to see how their lovechild turns out. Grows amazingly strong, bigger bushier plant than my other plants (cali connect Pre 98 Bubba, Connoseur Genetics Grandaddy Purps, Gage Green Leia OG, Sannies Killingfields, and sannies Herijuana). I always rotate between other companies and then I do a subcool grow.

any chance you could run the 7 1/2 week plant at the lab? would be interesting to see thc vs cbn levels at that time frame.
