so yeah, i'm sure some people have ran into seeds that never germed via towel or water, as a matter of fact i ran into one of the "immature" ones that was being a prick and didn't wanna pop...i got a weird ass thought and decided hell since i'm about to throw the seed away, i might as well experiment with it. so i took out my butterfly knife, kinda over kill but im sure you can scale it down to a razor, gripped the seed with no pressure between my fingers, pointy side down, made a small slice height wise down the side of the seed where it would normally split if it were being co-operative and pried the the seed slightly open, about half or less of a centimeter wise just so i could see the white of the taproot, i then threw it into soil. a day later i decided to follow up with the experiment and dug up the seed to see if anything had happened and voila, the taproot came out. this was a last ditch effort and i would never recommend anyone doing this before trying a traditional method, oh and you need really steady hands so you dont slice too deep or pry open too wide...

Nail file works well too.

I've done a fair amount of roofing and those hook blades are nice to use, or the combination of nail file and hook blade.

I had TH seeds Heavy Duty Fruity, and I wouldn't have ended up with 3 out of 10 if i didn't use the ol nail file/hook blade approach.
